No doubt. They were my first two concerts. Both at the Yale Bowl in 1972(?). My older brother who was in college took me and another older brother (I'm the last of five). I think Delaney and Bonnie opened. The brother who brought us was in college at SO CT STATE COLLEGE and I'm 10 years younger, so I was 10 I guess. Alot of mean green ((what's that smell?). About 3-4 years later the other brother took me with his friends to see them, again at the Yale Bowl Now, us three are the only ones left.....but I'm still the coolest.... By the way, Terry Kath is quite good, eh? P

I remember the first time I heard Chicago in a friend's basement. It was 1969 and I was 15. It was the first time I'd ever heard a horn section in rock music. I bought the album the next day. I still have it. p.s. - Love the hair.

Hello Rebeka, The best way to get started with Chicago would be the first song from the first album. Chicago Transit Authority. The song is simply titled “Introduction“ to give you a quick little tour around the band. Plus you get the thick, rich vocals of Terry Kath the guitarist at the time.

During the summer of 1969, Cetera was accosted by four men - he stated they were Marines - while attending a baseball game at Dodger Stadium. His jaw was broken in three places and had to be wired shut so it could heal. this had a lasting affect on him jutting his chin out while singing that gave the affect you were seeing his vocal chords have lasted for years after {:-) PAV UK

Truth. That happened before the band was to go to Columbia Studios in NYC to record their second album, where this track appears on the second disc of the 2 LP album. They recorded it with his jaw wired.

Some "Out there" songs you could react to are... Edgar Winters "Frankenstein" (the Live version shows how many instruments he plays),.. "Hocus Pocus" by Focus (AGAIN, the Live version shows the Lead singers Talent with other Instruments as well as CRAZY Vocals), but for Energy, try Ram Jam's "Black Betty".... GREAT Reaction, BTW!

Chicago was built around the 3 horns. This rock band, rather than lots of guitars they used horns. That is why you hear a slight jazz influence.

That whole concert was fire as were the Tanglewood shows by The Who, Jethro Tull and the Jefferson Airplane. I live 20 minutes from Tanglewood and have seen tons of great shows there, it is an electric and beautiful venue. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎺🎷🎶

I would include Chicago VII. It was such an experimental double LP. The first several tracks were all instrumentals. Terry Kath's Byblos is a beautiful track on that album. Wishing You Were Here and Call On Me were two hits from VII.

Thanks for this video; this is one of the best LIVE guitar solos ever! Terry Kath, the guitar player, was an incredible guitarist, who unfortunately died too young. This solo alone should put him one the best of lists for guitar. Maybe you don't see him because his career was so short.

They were unique group in that they skillfully big band with rock and roll. There were a few other groups with a horn section - Sky and the Family Stone, Tower of Power, Earth Wind and Power - but none could match Chicago's rock and roll feel of their music especially in their earlier years,

I'm one of the biggest Chicago fans ever. Love them so much, have been to many concerts and I own every album they've ever put out. That being said, you folks need to do a search for Leonid & Friends and listen to their 25 or 6 to 4. They are the ultimate tribute band and if you know Chicago like I do, you'll see that they play the song note for note. Since all of the original Chicago guys (inlcuding me) are old dudes now, Leonid & Friends are a re-birth of Chicago. Catch one of their concerts. You won't be disappointed.

FYI, the lead singer of this song, Peter Cetera, actually recorded the studio version with his jaw wired shut because of it being broken. That helped create his singing style.

(LOL) Goes to show ya, great musicians know thier instrument so well they don't have to see it to play..They just go by feel and what they hear. Peter sings the way he does because he got into a fight and got his jaw broken. He had it wired together for several months and developed that singing style because of it. Guess he never hurt his voice as he sang that way for 50 years or so and has just retired about 5 years ago. He is 78 years old and was the last member to join Chicago. Can tell you love and understand music by the way you move to it. Chicago toured with Jimi Hendrix and opened for him. Jimi said Terry was the best guitar player that he ever heard. Thanks for looking up some facts about the song and sharing them. So many of the other reaction videos never take the time to look up some history on the song that they are reviewing or the band itself. Thanks again.

Their first album was a 2 record set called Chicago Transit Authority ( CTA ),A cut called Free Form Guitar was early acid rock to me. If you can find the album get it.I t is a masterpiece with Peter Cetera singing. Peace and enjoy!! Rest In Peace Terry Kath. .He died by accident while playing with or cleaning a gun. I was shown a house in the woods outside Hayward , Wis. area where it happened.

They used to be called "Chicago transit authority" and then renamed "Chicago" and the guitar player is Terry Kath.. he was very underated, but Jimi Hendrix said he was the best! Great group, with the trumpets mixed with rock... so groovy was their sound..

Terry Kath and Chicago, "Wishing You Were Here", '74 New Year's Rockin' Eve : features Terry and Peter on lead vocals with the incredible backing vocals of the Beach Boys. Peter goes from Bass to acoustic guitar and Terry goes from lead guitar to bass. This live version sounds incredibly close to the studio version that can't tell the difference and you get to see them..

The reason why the lead singer Peter Cetera was singing that way was because he was injured after being beaten up at a baseball game. Apparently there were four marines who were Los Angeles Dodger fans that didn't like Cetera rooting for the Chicago Cubs. Peter Cetera was beaten up so bad that his jaw was broken and had to be wired shut. He learned to sing with his teeth wired shut while his jaw was healing but it had an unexpected effect of actually improving his vocals, giving it a unique quality that he didn't have before. In the video he seems to be able to sing with his mouth opened, maybe he had recently been healed but his previous experience while healing from his injury forced him get used to singing in a different way.

Lsd actually. “Waiting for the break of day” followed by a verse that one can only assume is about staying up all night on psychedelics. “Dancing lights against the sky / Giving up I close my eyes / Sitting cross-legged on the floor,” Great song!! 10:35. She actually read to you the quote from the songwriter that the “flashing lights against the sky” allegedly pertained to a neon sign he observed from his home. You can assume otherwise but to say “one can only assume” he’s on drugs is incorrect.

Jimi Hendrix told Chicago's publicist that Terry was a better guitar player than he was. They actually had plans to do shows together. When Chicago made the studio album with this song on it, Cetera's jaw had been broken and he had to sing it through clenched teeth because his jaws were wired shut.

Rebeka, I have noticed Peter Cetera trying to get the higher notes by doing just what you said he does. For example when he sings waiting for the break of day, he tends to add a quick extra push with a yah.... waiting for the break of day - yah and he does that in almost every line that requires a high note and it sounds a bit like a struggle but as you said it still sounds really good

Chicago is outstanding. Other early Chicago songs to react to include Make Me Smile, Beginnings, and Does Anybody Really Know What time It Is. You should also listen to Blood Sweat & Tears. Great job! Terry Kath one of the greatest guitarist off all time. Jimi Hendrix said Kath was better then him! UNREAL. Kath died by a accidental self inflicted gun shot wound. Tragic. The song is about insomnia. I'm a Man another good tune to check out.

JImi Hendrix said after watching Terry Kath play ...Jimi Hendrix was quoted as saying that he thought Terry Kath played guitar better than he did. It was later on reported that Jimi Hendrix also called Terry Kath the “Best Guitarist in the Universe.”

Big hit from the second album. Terry Kath died in a gunshot accident in 1978; the band kept going, but that was pretty much it for the best stuff. (As a singer, Kath was a great guitarist.)

Lovely reaction. I read a comment recently on another Reaction Videos Channel that explained where this song title came from. Always wondered what it meant. He said it was based on the time of day. Someone asked someone else what time it was. The answer was -- 3:35 or 4. In other words -- 25 or 26 minutes until 4 o'clock. So --> 25 or 6 to 4. Oh -- just watched the last few minutes of the video. Duh.

Any guitar players hear when Terry uses 16th note rhythms in his strumming while he's comping during the verses and choruses? The solo was epic enough, but his rhythm playing....great time and feel. The patterns he fit in there. Another lesson on great guitar playing.

Besides just seeing and hearing one of the best rock guitar solos of all time, here's the backstory on that whole fixing the drums' thing. My older brother was at that concert, and he witnessed what happened. When they did their last set, the roadies took the stage, not realizing they were being screamed at to do an encore. They had already removed a couple of the cymbals and were taking the kit apart when Chicago realized they had to take the stage again. They ran the roadies off and started getting everything back together again, That's why they were messing with the drums at the beginning of the video.

If you liked the guitar solo, go to the debut album as The Chicago Transit Authority and play Poem 58. It's 9 minutes of PURE FUNK led by Terry Kath on guitar, Danny Seraphine on drums, and Peter Cetera on bass. Proves that Jimi Hendrix was right when he told Chicago that their guitar player was better than Jimi himself.
