This was a special night to be caught on film. Pankow would say 25 plus years later that this was "Chicago at it's absolute best, all friends, no egos, out for nothing but good music, synching together in a way that was 100% on that night." Kath, he pointed out all those years later was maybe the "best there ever was" on that particular evening. Man, the jazz infusion on that song, the harmonies, the horns, and although we all love to praise Kath, rightly so, everybody on the stage made that magic work.

I grew up in the 70's and of course was aware of "Chicago." I remember asking this girl, what do you like better " Saturday in the Park, " or "Saturday is all Right for Fighting?" I knew little about the dynamics of the band besides there were a bunch of them, they had a born section, and had a guitarist with a really deep voice who accidentally? shot himself himself. Now I realize that this band was unique in that everybody pulled their weight musically. Cause during their heyday I never saw them or even knew what they looked like. So watching them on big-time is a revelation. They all wrote, and if they wrote less then they made up for it with musicianship and energy. What great writers the horn players and keyboardist were. What great singers Lamn, Cetera and Kath were. What a virtuoso the drummer and guitarist were. Seven guys, all of them indespensible. Amazing! Unfortunately, horns in a rock band became passe by the mid-seventies. The great experiment starting with Blood Sweat & Years ended with Chicago, Too bad, but what are you gonna do?

Let me share a story with you. In 1981 I was dating my future wife. I played this song for her on a cassette tape recorder. I told her the lyrics of this song expressed how I felt about her. We were married for 20 years and ended up divorced after raising two wonderful children. Over the last 35 years whenever this song came on the radio, I would immediately think of her whether we were married, divorced, or somewhere in between. She passed away unexpectedly earlier this month. That morning when I first found out, I went out to buy a suit to wear to her funeral. I went to the checkout to pay for it. As the clerk was ringing up the sale, "Beginnings" by Chicago starts playing on the store's PA system. Out of all the thousands of songs that could have been playing at that store at that particular moment, it was THIS song. This song, which I had always associated with her, played at the very moment I was buying a suit for her funeral. Needless to say, I was crying before I left the store. Some may think this was a coincidence. I do not think so.

This could be the most emotional poignant ode to love ever. Performed truly flawlessly with Kath's lead work standing out, as was Bobby Lamm's vocals, & unfuckingbelievable horns. I was 17 when I first heard this & it brought tears to my eyes, then & now.

This concert blows away anything else Chicago has done live. The whole band is in the Zone for this one and Double that for Terry Kath. He was simply phenomenal that day. If every dog has there day this was his for sure. The guitar rhythms, the solos and the way he holds notes are played with a flair that are unmatched. When Terry says “alright let’s keep it going” on this song I am thinking, I am so with you on that brother. What a joy so listen and see this concert!! True Greatness and Chicago at their absolute Best!!

Watching and hearing Terry play on this song blows me away. He just plays rhythm on this song and he looks like he is playing so fast, and yet it sounds so perfect. He never missed a beat.

Yeah, they're all in the zone and they *know it*, and they're enjoying the hell out of it. This is how a band is supposed to be -- when everything clicks -- whether it's a string quartet, or an orchestra, or a rock band, when the Muses smile on you and this happens, it's pure magic. It's a blast and it's terrific to watch these guys do their stuff.

Without a doubt, my favourite Chicago track. Everything about it is perfect --- the instruments (the brass gets extra mention for being so unnnfff delicious), the beautiful words, the vibe, the voices. I remember hearing this at ten years old and just being so mesmerised. It has that effect on me. It has to play at my wedding, honestly !

Sam Nitkoffsky try being a great instrumentalist next to a bad drummer, though. It's all about the rhythm section, and that includes Danny Seraphine..You can't do anything with an idiot behind the kit. I don't care what the guitar player and lead singer think. And I'm a singer.
