The professional sports fanbase in general is much less sophisticated than previous generations. They’re less knowledgeable of the history and while fans have always struggled with the virtue of patience, in this age of instant gratification the demand for instant and continued success borders on the ludicrous.

I remember when Mike Schmidt (HOF 3rd baseman for the Philadelphia Phillies) said 80 games a year the fans boo him. On family day, when the players bring their families to the game, he said they boo his wife and kids, too. I had forgotten the drama around Krause but I'm not a Bulls fan. I only remember the good times when the man who made basketball must see TV lit up the scoreboard.

Back in the 90s' Chicago had 2 newspapers and 2 sports talk radio stations. That's where Chicago got it's sports news and that media would give the Bulls GM bad press for the 90s' So what the media reported was bad press for Jerry Krause throughout the 90s'.

I live here but I grew up in Michigan so I have an outsiders perspective. Chicago sports fans are fickle. When it comes to the cubs and sox, the fans are die hard. When it comes to the Bulls and the Bears, it’s never good enough. They turn on coach’s and players, and apparently dead GMs, at the drop of a hat. I can’t really understand it.

Philly didn’t boo Santa. We booed the drunk 20yr old in a ratty Santa costume that was pulled out of the stands because the Santa hired for the event didn’t show/didn’t want to go onto the field.

If Krause didn't want people to boo the mere mention of his name after he died, maybe he shouldn't have disrespected and trivialized the Bulls' dynasty with his "organizations win championships, not players" garbage, and then proceed to dismantle it and tank the franchise for almost a decade. People remember. I'm not condoning what happened-- they should have been diplomatic and showed restraint. But this was an abject lesson in actions having consequences.

I do remember when the Chicago Bulls were an also ran team in the NBA before Michael Jordan arrived on the scene and made them champions due to Jerry Krause assembling the team into champions. Classless Bulls fans booing him at the ceremony honoring his entrance into the Hall Of Fame in Chicago. It is best for all of us to keep quiet when someone who I despise has passed away keep quiet on social media as well as in person.

Jerry Reinsdorf has hidden behind Jerry Krause for years; He's let that man take all the sling and arrows while acting like he had little to do with how the Bulls were run. Reinsdorf could do a lot to change the opinion of Krause here in Chicago and he hasn't.

The phrase that “ Organizations Win Championships “ has been tied in the fans minds from the propaganda from the Bulls Organization and Ownership. Unfortunately, Jerry Krause has been associated strongly with that . The Bulls Organization had options just as the players and coaches did …. If Jerry Reinsdorf would have wanted to keep the team together it would have been. Jerry Krause has been the focus of fans issues when in reality it should be with the Bulls organization. Krause should be always respected and revered by Bulls fans . I used to be a diehard Bulls fan since the Pistons rivalry. I was a fan up until after Derek Rose and company left. I stopped following the team cause organization was ran by morons. Even after Krause destroyed the dynasty. I was pissed but I never had ill feelings towards him. Last night was disgusting to see everyone boo the woman.

I would love if Michael Jordan would hold a press conference with Mr. Krause’s widow to honor her husband. It is my opinion that “The Last Dance” contributed to the demeaning of Jerry Krause’s reputation. Michael could provide some kind of context for his overall success of the organization.

Krause gets a ton of credit and any true bulls. Fan knows the role he played. That doesn't mean hes not the biggest villain in Chicago sports and was certainly the biggest villain of my childhood growing up in the 90s. I wasn't at stadium but if I was there. I would have booed him 2. And the fact the franchise didn't realize that was going to be the reception. He got shows you how out of touch they are with their fan base.

The thing about Jerry Krause was simple: If you're going to be the GM of a team, you have to be the bastard to the public, the players and the media sometimes because you have to make the hard decisions that people don't like. Case in point, trading Charles Oakley to the Knicks for Bill Cartwright. Michael Jordan loved Oak and was super pissed that Krause pulled the trigger on that trade. A lot of the media in Chicago loved Oak because he was seen as the teams countermeasure to the Bad Boys in Detroit. A lot of the fans loved Oak because he was seen as an embodiment of Chicago toughness and was a fighter out on the court. The simple fact was though that with the rise of Scottie and Horace he was becoming redundant on the team and on top of that they needed a true starting center and Oak wasn't big enough to play the five and that wasn't really Horace's game. So Krause made that trade despite the fact that everyone hated him for it. This also makes me think of David Stern. I thought David Stern was a harsh, mercurial and ruthless tyrant. G-d almighty do I miss that man. Again, in order for the NBA to run properly Stern had to be an SOB because it's the only way to make an organization like that run right. The fact is that "player empowerment" under Adam Silver has hurt the Association massively. Stern was always willing to set the players straight when they were screwing up. His crackdown on fighting after the Malice at the Palace is a perfect example. It makes me think of that classic song by Joni Mitchell (and later covered by Counting Crows): Don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you got 'til it's gone? Fans in Chicago can blame Krause for all of the fighting with MJ (and let's be honest MJ wasn't exactly a gentleman in all of that), the breakup of the Bulls dynasty, the departure of Phil Jackson (who's got and ego too, you don't get that far in that environment without having one) and a whole bunch of other stuff, but let me ask one question: What has Chicago won since Krause left the team?

Until I saw that, I thought the poorest display of sportsmanship from fans was the Philly fans cheering when Michael Irvin was injured and carried off the field. But this takes the cake.

What have the Chicago Bulls accomplished lately. No championships since 1998. The team has been rebuilding since Michael Jordan hit the title-clincher in Salt Lake City. 25 years now. The Blackhawks, White Sox, and Cubs have brought at least one championship each since the Bulls dynasty ended. It's truly shameful to not only boo a person that helped built teams that were unforgettable in NBA history, but to boo his widow when he was honored. Jerry Krause may have made decisions that some fans at the time they disagree with (Examples: telling Phil Jackson that he gets one more season and that's all he gets, Not paying Scottie Pippen what he was truly worth as a player, and pissing MJ off on a few occasions), but you should always honor one of the pieces of the puzzles. If it wasn't for the contributions made by Jerry Krause, the Bulls would have still played second fiddle in the Eastern Conference to the likes of the Pistons, Knicks, Pacers, Hawks, and Heat and possibly have maybe one or two of those titles. I will honestly admit that I no longer have an NBA team to cheer for. Haven't had one since July 2, 2008 when my favorite team got stolen due to a lot of bullshit that should have never happened.

I used to live in the Chicago area. Both Jerrys are hated very much, this should have come to no surprise from the Bulls organization. I think they gambled hoping that his widow being there would quell some of the fury...obviously not. I feel bad for her...but this was an outcome the Bulls should have accepted as a possibility.

It was bad but not surprising. Jackson, Jordan, Pippin and most of the local media made Krause the villain of the dynasty years. I never thought it was very fair, but the fandom was practically hard wired to boo him.

We've heard Phil bash Krause, MJ bash Krause, the media bash Krause. Has anyone ever heard Krause do the same, or even explain why the dynasty had to end? I don't know what the whole story is, but it is possible they are booing the wrong person.

I don’t know why people are surprised. We stopped teaching children and practicing ourselves, the many ways to be respectful to others, a long time ago. I don’t want to offend anyone with religious preaching, but it’s been about 50 years ago since we began moving in a more “godless” direction. Words like respectful, compassion, empathy, courteous and civil have lost their meaning when relating towards others. If we could treat each other like we treat our pets, that would be a big step!

I don't like Krause because it's been brought to light he was the main reason why Michael Jordan forced himself into his second retirement, all because he felt he was not getting enough credit as much as Michael,Phil and the team were getting and still are.I too refuse to glorify him over the players to this day in any way or form either. I wasn't there to watch him manage the Bulls, I was there to watch MJ alone play basketball... period. Jerry Krause was rightly credited with building the championship Bulls teams of the 1990s. BUT...when MJ retired for the 2nd time, he thought and announced that he could rebuild the Bulls. Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman were traded away. Tim Floyd was hired as coach. THE BULLS WENT FROM 60+ GAME WINNERS TO 60 GAME LOSERS FOR THE NEXT 10 YEARS!!!!!! Jerry Krause and REINSDORF were to blame. Bulls fans remember this like it was yesterday!!!

I am a Bulls fans but this was classless. What is wrong with these people. Society has gone down so much in the last 30 years. Chicago was a great city 40 years ago, now just a cesspool.

Jerry Krause made many moves/trades/draft choices to build a winner in Chicago and I lived in the Chicago area (1977-1987) so appreciated the good he did and didn't agree with his treatment of MJ, etc. But overall Krause did a very solid job but booing his widow?? Also, BTL, thanks much for noting the incredible work hours/sacrifices of these top-flight GMs!! Being a top-flight GM is a high-stress and demanding job with little time for family.

Fax phil jackson b4 he took the head Coaching job of the Bulls was a role player on the 2 championship knicks teams only averaging 5 points per game then he was an assistant coach for the nets then he coached for the albany patroons then coached in Puerto Rico then became assistant coach of the bulls then becoming head coach when doug Collins got fired and became a way better coach then what doug collins was he made the bulls a better team by getting every one in the bulls offense more involved then doug collins just allowing MJ to be a one man show which got them nowhere
