I 290 has interesting engineering. The I 90/ I 290 interchange I'll call smart engineering as it has collector distributor lanes for through and exiting traffic. You're right about the hillside strangler as the interchange has unwise geometry engineering. The curve from I 294 NB to I 290 WB is a huge chokepoint. The exit lane from I 290 EB to I 88 WB is conflict as it has a shared merge exit lane. Further east, it has left hand exits.

Whoever that designed the ramp from EB 290 to SB 294 deserves to rot in hell. Such an oddball design.

I'm glad to see you clinched all of I-290 IL/Dwight D. Eisenhower Expwy travelling eastbound. We all know it's basically a bypass of I-90 serving Chicago and it's western suburbs.

The Eisenhower as we seen on the map was also built to bypass O'Hare International Airport (ORD). You know, when we see the signage where the 290 starts west, eastbound I-90 should sign the airport, not just Chicago, while the 290 should sign Chicago and Joliet. Does that make sense? Also, when the 290 meets the 355, the 355 should sign Joliet while the 290 remains to sign Chicago which does make sense.

I forgot to mention, I-290 IL is in 2 counties: Cook County, IL and DuPage County, IL, 2 populous counties of Illinois in Chicagoland. The 290 is in Cook County twice (northwestern and central) and in DuPage County once.

7:57 That non perpendicular ramp between exits 28A and 28B of I-290 IL is Ogden Ave and also the Historic US 66.

Which when they decommissioned US 66, US 34 should've gained back it's original route which ends at Michigan Ave and LSD.

@@kosjeyr, it's weird why IDOT decided to decomission US 34 from Downtown Chicago to it's 2 Cook County suburbs named Lyons and Riverside.

If you didn't know: I-290 (south of present I-90) was the original route of I-90.

The Eisenhower Expwy was built in the mid '50s to early '70s and was signed I-90. In 1978, I-90 was moved to sign the rest of the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway and almost all the Kennedy Expwy while I-290 IL was signed for the Eisenhower.

@Crystal Clear with 8BE (Enzo) I still call them the NW, EW, Stevenson, Tri-State, etc... the old names. I still refer to it as the Circle Interchange and not Jane Byrn. Not ignorant but don't keep up with the new names as they confuse me.
