www.TravelsWithSheila.com Hope this short video gives passenger information for International Arrivals only. All International flights land at Terminal 5, O'Hare. (Please don't forget to Share, Like and Subscribe! Thanks.)
Hi Madhumitha: You should have no problems. What airline are you transiting to? Both American and United have drop off bags, as soon as you clear customs (I've never noticed if other airlines do. Call your airline and ask). So, drop bags, Go up the escalator outside Terminal 5 baggage claim to take the free ATS transport between terminals. The next stop in one direction from Terminal 5 is parking. You want the train going the other way and Terminal 3 is the first stop from Terminal 5. Hope this helps but there is an Information Desk outside Terminal 5 baggage that can assist. Thanks for watching and have a great trip home. Best, Sheila
When you go upstairs in Terminal 5 and follow signs to the train, a display on the platform will show which direction it is going. As long as its not going to the parking lot, you are good!
Hi..I need to travel fromT5 to T3 in 1hr 50min..This is my first time travel to usa I should finish immigration also... please anyone suggest me...is that possible to get a connecting flight?
Oh my goodness! You are so sweet and kind to post such a wonderful compliment! I am thrilled you enjoy the vids and my voice (Steve and my children certainly don't enjoy my voice 🤪). Very best to you and I hope you and yours are all well. Thanks a gazillion, Sheila 🥰
Thank you. I have been looking for information about CTA station at Terminal 2. I have been at O'hare four times already, but never by myself. Next time I will be facing the challenge to go from terminal 5E( international arrivals) to terminal 2, in order to get a train and then another train to to go to Evanston. This time all by myself.
HINT: If your flight arrives from Ireland you will not exit the same doors as other international flights. Their exit is a little further down to the right of where you normally greet arrivals. Flights from Ireland to the United States (regardless of airline) are treated like domestic flights so you don't go through passport control or customs on arrival in Chicago. You just get off the plane, pick up your bag and head for the exit. There's a US preclearance facility in Dublin and Shannon airports so there's no need to go through that on arrival in the United States. The Irish system is very handy and It's quite a time saver.
You are very welcome. I'm glad it was instructive and hope you have no problem arriving at Chicago O'Hare. Thanks for watching and taking time to comment. Best regards, Sheila
Great video! I was there this afternoon coming in on CX 806. The lines at passport control were pretty tolerable with their kiosks. The line for non-CA/US citizens will obviously be a longer wait. The baggage claim, however, was a DISASTER! The belts are domestic-sized, incapable of handling a 777-300ER or mixing old bags from a previous flight. The belt would fill up too quickly leading to repeated stops to organize/remove piled up bags at the feeder zone. They probably need two (maybe even 3) belts for an A380 if you asked me. One feature I miss at HKG was how the bag claim feeder belt would pause if it sensed new bags were to pile on top of bags already in circulation until a gap is available.. unfortunately I don't this feature coming if they can't improve capacity.
You are so right! It is always a nightmare, not only at O'Hare but other airports with antiquated belt systems when trying to pull your bag off the inner level with many other suitcases blocking the way. I also think that the kiosks have made a big difference as has Global Entry. I love Global Entry! Thanks for watching and taking time to comment. Best regards, Sheila
Hi! Very informational video! I have a question, in the end of October I am flying from Amsterdam to San Fransisco with a 2 hour layover at O'hare. I am not planning on bringing any luggage apart from my carry on because I know it's a tight connection, but I was wondering; do I need to re-check in for my second flight? Or is that something that already happens while checking in for my first flight in Amsterdam? I am kind of nervous about missing my flight because I have never had a lay over so I don't know how much time it will take, and I am flying on my own.
Hi Mijke, I'll do my best to answer your question if you answer some of mine. Are you flying the same airline from Amsterdam-Chicago-San Francisco? If so, the airline should give you boarding passes for both flights which helps. All flights land at International Terminal 5. You'll get off the plane, go through customs with your carry-on and then walk out of arrivals. Next step is to take the free transportation (a "train") from Arrivals in Terminal 5 to your connecting Terminal, either 1, 2 or 3. Last of all, security and go to the departure gate. Everything depends on traffic control, weather, etc., but don't worry. If you don't make your flight because the plane is late, or something like that, the airline will rebook you on the next flight. I hope this helps. Travel is nerve-wracking no matter how experienced a traveler you are, trust me on that! Good luck and thanks for taking time to visit my channel. Best, Sheila
It is absolutely ridiculous, Andrew, how long it is taking them! And now, they've ripped up the pavement in front of Terminal 1 arrivals. Yikes. Thanks smooch for your time to view and comment. It is appreciated! Best to you, Sheila 😍
Thank you for the video. The airport here (Tullamarine) cops a bad press. Yet, the design is not bad, I feel. The problem is that since it opened (I think that was around 1970) the population has boomed, the percentage of people travelling has also zoomed, so the traffic using the airport is far, far greater than it was designed for. It has not been expanded significantly since it opened. So it is usually crowded and pretty stressful. One of the reasons I try to favour reasonably early departures, just to avoid the worst of the crowds. Have a gala day!
You also! Unfortunately, no one is allowed to film in the Immigration/Customs area and they move passengers out of area quickly. Did the best I could, hoping the video would at least give others an inkling of what's in store for them when arriving International.
We will have layover transfer from T5 to T3 on a Friday in late June for 2 hours. The arrival is at 630pm. The monorail is down until September, will that be enough time to get to T3 before the domestic take off at 830? Carry ons only.
It "should" be since the transport buses outside International seem to move quickly and here's hoping! Got my fingers crossed for you and thanks for taking time to visit my channel. Regards, Sheila
Thanks to the Chicago O'Hare website, they say -- on the west side of Lot E. There's a free shuttle bus (24h/7d) which operates within both economy lots and goes to the terminals. Good luck and I hope they enjoy their stay here. Thanks also for watching and I hope the explanations helps. I, personally, always get lost parking around O'Hare. 😍 Best regards, Sheila
Hi Sheila, I am scheduled to arrive at ORD's Terminal 5 on Oct 10th 2023 at 15:00hrs from Doha (DOH). I have a connecting domestic flight from Terminal 3 with American airlines, scheduled to depart at 17:20hrs. I understand that i will have to deplane, clear immigration, pick up my two checked bags, clear customs/CBP, re-check bags with American Airlines at Terminal 5, take the ATS to Terminal 3, clear TSA at Terminal 3(?) and board the American Airlines plane to Sioux falls. I am wondering if the 2hr 20min layover would be sufficient? Also, do i need coins to disengage the luggage trolleys from each other?
Thanks so much for both your view and asking a question that I can actually answer🤣 You should definitely have enough time and all your info is correct. You do not need coins for carts in arrival at Terminal 5. Fortunately, they are free 👍 So little is these days. 🤣 Best to you and have a safe trip. Sheila
Hi, I arrive at terminal 5 from Northern Ireland and have to get to terminal 2 in a hour do you have any tips? & do you think my checked luggage will be passed onto my plane or will I have to collect it and re check it in?
I hope you didn't just arrive or the info is too late :( If you are arriving soon, you do have to go through immigration, and then pu suitcases. Then follow the signs to baggage recheck (if you are using American or United (I'm not sure about Aer Lingus). outside the terminal are buses that will take you (free) to Terminal 2. Good luck and thanks for visiting Travels With Sheila. Sheila 😍
What an impossible question to answer 😱 I assume you are flying into Terminal 5 and leaving from another terminal? IF your flight arrives early; you SPEED through Immigration; and bags appear FIRST on the belt, you have an excellent chance. 👍Otherwise? Very iffy... My fingers are crossed that you do and hope you have a great trip. Regards, Sheila 😍
Hello, can you take the train (Blue line) to downtown from terminal 5 or do you have to go terminal 3 first and take it from there? and how about the shuttle buss, does any shuttle buss go from terminal 5 directly to downtown area? Thank you
I am inserting a link to transportation from the airport. www.flychicago.com/ohare/tofrom/shuttles/pages/default.aspx As of now, the train between Terminal 5 and the other terminals still isn't working but free buses stand outside Terminal 5 to transfer passengers to other terminals. The Blue Line is the cheapest! I hope this website helps and thanks for visiting my channel. Regards, Sheila 😍
First, thanks for watching the video. When your International flight land in Terminal 5, follow signs to the Airport Transit System (ATS) - an escalator ride up in the Arrival Hall. Ride the next train to Terminal 2 and exit the train there. Then, follow signs to "CTA Trains" or "Trains to City." Ask anyone if it's confusing at any time and have a great trip into, my town, Chicago. Best regards, Sheila
Great video. I understand shuttles leave from door 5E of terminal 5 to hotels. They certainly take us to hotels downtown, 25km from airport, but do they also take visitors to Crowne Plaza hotel only 2km east of terminal 5 ? I'll spend a night there in October. Thanks.
Sorry, Astrafalustre. I'm not sure which Crowne Plaza you are referring to. In Chicago? Suburbs? Thanks for watching and if you let me know which hotel, I'll try to do a little research. Best regards, Sheila
Thanks Sheila, very kind of you. I was refering to Crowne Plaza O'Hare, in North River Road, Rosemont. After second thought, I think I'll go straight to Avis or Hertz once arrived at terminal 5, THEN I'll drive to the hotel nearby. From what I've seen, each rental car company has its own shuttle... near door 5E again ! Cheers.
I did a little search and found: The Crowne Plaza offers free 24 hour shuttle service to and from O'Hare. And this is the link if you haven't seen it already www.crowneplazaohare.com/ap-chicago-ohare-airport-shuttle-hotel-1411485425.php Best, Sheila
Good Morning. It's a nice video.I need to travel from terminal 5 to 1 within 1 hour 20 minutes. And also I have run through immigration counter. Could you please suggest me best possible way to reach terminal 1 to get my connecting flight to Baltimore.
I don't know why my previous answer did appear but it is going to be close! It is going o depend on (a) whether your plane lands on time; (b) how much time it takes to get through customs: (c) collect bags and drop them for transfer; (d) get on the bus and transfer to terminal 1. As you can see, a lot can impact the timing. All I can say is: "May the Force be with you" and good luck. Thanks for taking time to watch and comment. Best, Sheila 😇
What a good question. I think it will depend on whether you actually end up with that amount of time or not. What the weather isn like. And, how risk adverse you are! It takes 1 hour in each direction to downtown Chicago. Then allow the hour for security and recheck at O’Hare. If all the gods cooperate. You can easily spend some time in Chicago but I hesitate to recommend what to do. Perhaps other viewers who have had this amount of time can weigh in? Thanks for your view and time to ask a question. And, good luck! Best to you, Sheila 😍
What airline are you flying into Terminal 5 on? I know that after Immigration American Airlines and United Airlines have "drop spots" to literally drop your luggage and they will transfer it. Let me know and I'll try to find out. Regards,Sheila
Hi Sheila! Great Video! I'll be flying next week from Heathrow (London) to O'Hare Terminal 5 (Chicago) with British Airways but the flight is operated by American Airlines, then I'll be flying from O'Hare Terminal 3 to Cedar Rapids with British Airways (and Operated by British Airways). Could you please tell me if I will need to re-check my luggage in O'Hare Airport and how should I go from one terminal to the other? Thank u so much!
Hello sheila. I come from Argentina and arrive at chicago. Do I have to take a subway or something when I land in Chicago with american airlines? I ask you cause I have with me 3 suitcases and they are very heavy!
Hi Michelle: I have some questions. 1. Is your American Airlines flight non-stop to Chicago? If so, you will land in Terminal 5. 2. If not non-stop, will land in different terminal. 3. Are you then going into downtown Chicago or transferring to another flight? Let me know and I'll try to help you! Regards, Sheila 😍
@@SheilaSimkin sheila thanks for your answer you are so kind. I come from buenos aires, stop in miami and then to chicago. The problem is I have a 3 suitcases with me and I am alone and I am afraid I will not be able to move much. My flight to chicago comes from Miami. Do I have to take a subway or I can get my luggage and go directly?
@@michm6159 You will come into Domestic, claim your baggage. A baggage cart is $6 USD. Definitely have enough money for a cart. Then go outside. Here is a link to different options www.flychicago.com/ohare/tofrom/taxi/pages/default.aspx but I suggest Uber! I googled and saw you have Uber in BA so that may be the best choice. Here is a link for Uber Taxi also www.uber.com/us/en/ride/ubertaxi/. Or you can always taxi a regular taxi, approx $40-50 USD. I would not recommend the subway with so much luggage. BA has a much better transportation system than we do (unfortunately). Good luck and I hope this helps! Sheila 😍
@@SheilaSimkin sheila Thank you so much!!! So when I arrive I dont have to take an internal subway in the airport? They are coming for me after I arrive at chicago! But I was concerned about if I had to go to other terminal inside the airport or not? I dont have to make any connections Chicago is my last flight. Thanks for everything
@@michm6159 No problem, Michelle and I hope you have a great trip. No, you do not have to take a subway. If people are picking you up at the airport?? You just walk out of baggage and cross to the last lane. However, there are different places to wait for taxi and ride shares so ask to make sure you are in the right place. Best to you, Sheila

Hi Tahoe: So sorry for the very late response to your comment but it never showed up in my RU-vid inbox! I'm sure by now you have been and returned from Copenhagen, a very fun place. Please subscribe to see the latest and greatest (ha-ha) videos of where we've been and are up to. Thanks so much for commenting and again, so sorry, for the late reply. Best regards, Sheila
Right now, Kien, as soon as you exit Terminal 5 after Customs and baggage there are free buses that circulate from Terminal 5 to the other terminals. Unfortunately,, our people mover is still under construction. If you are flying United or American, drop your baggage at the appropriate spot exiting Customs and then proceed outside to the bus. There is no need to take your baggage with you. Airline personnel will transfer for you. Ask! If you have any questions and have a safe trip. Happy New Year, Sheila 😍

hello Sheila, thank you so much for this video, it helps a lot. I'm from France and i'm traveling to the US in like 5 days . I need to travel from terminal 5 to one of the other T and I would like to know what are the step to take a connecting flight within 2h20. I hope you are able to answer me, thank you .
Bon Jour! You have plenty of time. The order will be Immigration, pick up baggage, Don't know what Airlines is ongoing but there are drop spots for American, United and not sure who else before existing baggage. ASK! Then free people mover between terminals. There are "Ask me" people outside baggage. Welcome to the US. And I'm so glad the video helped. Best to you, Sheila 😍
@@melevil1529 Hello. Were you able to make your flight? How long did it take to clear immigration, pick up checked bags, go through customs and recheck your baggage? I will arrive at Terminal 5 of ORD at 15:00hrs and would need to deplane, clear immigration, pick up baggage and clear customs (CBP), recheck bags with American Airlines in Terminal 5, take the ATS to terminal 3, clear TSA(?) and board a domestic flight departing at 17:20hrs. @@samgenic hello! I was able to get my fly on time even though our luggage took 45min to come at the baggage claim, you we have enough time no worries it was pretty fast , the longest part was the luggage, to check them again it took like 2min. I hope you will have a great fly!
Since I don't know what your airline rules are, I suggest you call the airline and ask. Are you flying International? If so, it's the usual check-in, show relevant documents, and go through security. Have a good flight, Sheila 😍
hello i need help! it's my first time travelling and i do not know what to do once i arrive at O'hare terminal 5, do i need to go to immigration before getting my luggage or in short what is the process once i get off the plane at O'hare as an international passenger{terminal 5 arrival}
Not a problem. You will arrive, deplane. walk to Immigration! Once through the Immigration line, baggage is right there. If transferring to another airline for ongoing journey, there is a ‘ drop luggage’ facility and then take the little people mover train (free) to the connecting terminal. You will then have to check-in with your departing airline or go directly through security if you have an onward boarding pass, and that’s it. Hope this helps and thanks for your time to view and comment. Sheila 👍
@@chinweosisiogu9141 I think this question is beyond my realm of expertise but I'll try. First, where are you flying from? If from another country, does your country require a visa to visit Canada or the US? Thanks for your time to view and ask a question. Regards, Sheila 😍
I googled that the old Terminal 4, located in the ground level of O'Hare's parking garage, serves as the airport's bus-shuttle depot. Eventually, and who knows when, a new building will be christened Terminal 4. Do you think that will happen in my lifetime? Thanks for watching and commenting. Best, Sheila
Je regret, Therese, but I can't help you with that. Your best chance is to call whatever airline you flew on. Thanks so much for your time to view and comment. Merci, Sheila 😍
Are you connecting on, Marshea? If so, you drop baggage before exiting, then exit and take free transportation to other terminals. There is a Information Desk (at least I hope it’s still there) right outside baggage who will assist with any questions. Thanks so much for your time to view and comment and have a wonderful trip! @@marsheabyars3989 No problems foe you. Too bad you have to hang around the airport so long but I, for one, always hesitate to travel into a city on a layover.
