I'll always consider the 1970s to be the best era of music, in part because of Chicago's fusion of pop, soft rock, and jazz. So much upbeat, positive music--it helped to make us who we are. I can't even imagine growing up in more recent musical eras and how that would have shaped me. Love your keeping these great old tunes alive, Jamel! 🤍🎶😎

That was from the Caribou Ranch show they had on TV years ago. AKA "The Rocky Mountain Way." "The town of Caribou was incorporated in 1870 as the result of a major silver strike. Throughout the century that followed, Caribou was operated primarily as a ranch. In the 1950s, it was known as a vacation spot for many members of high society. In 1965, it came to be known as a backdrop for the star-studded remake of Stagecoach. By 1972, the history of Caribou Ranch would take a very interesting turn. In that year, it was purchased by Jim Guercio, the manager of the band Chicago. Guercio immediately got to work turning part of the 3,000-acre ranch into a professional studio in a state that, at the time, was better known for demo studios. The technology was cutting-edge, including a 48-track mixing board with digital displays. Within months, Caribou Ranch Studio had produced its first album. Joe Walsh, who had already been living in the mountains near Boulder, put together a new band called Barnstorm. Their first album (self-titled) was fully recorded at Caribou. The following year, the band Chicago spent over a month at the ranch recording parts of their sixth album and filming a television special. Chicago pianist Robert Lamm said of the experience, “Everybody’s playing better after spending a month up here…I’ve done my writing in the cities, I’ve done writing on the road. - I’ve done my best writing here.” - Denver Post, July 15, 1973."

Many artists recorded At Caribou Ranch , including Amy Grant, who had A Christmas Album cover of Caribou Ranch in the background, anyways, Jim Guercio allowed many artists to use the place until it had a tragic fire that burnt the studio.

I suggest watching "The Terry Kath Experience " documentary if you haven't, a great doc but they visit Caribou Ranch before they close/fire. Pretty cool walking the grounds with Terry's daughter and wife. Thanks for posting this Jamel_aka_Jamal one of the great musical memories from my youth.

an interesting note on chicago, their first album was called chicago trantist authorty . . when the actual chicagot trantist authority a local goverment department became aware of this groups name, they threaten to sue the group CTA if they continued to used the CTA moniker. so the group shorten thier name to chicago. then all was cool and went on to make music history

YES!!!! "Poem 58" from their debut album as The Chicago Transit Authority is 9 minutes of PURE FUNK led by Terry Kath on guitar, Danny Seraphine on drums, and Peter Cetera on bass. When Jimi Hendrix told Chicago that their guitar player was better than Jimi himself, he must have had this song in mind when he saw CTA at the Whisky a Go Go.

Actually taken from the Dick Clark special, "Chicago in the rockies"(1973)and yes that was Al Green, who did a number in that special with Chicago backing him up. In 1974 Dick Clark produced "Chicago, meanwhile back at the ranch". Both are on you tube. Jamel AKA Jamal, I just wanted to thank you for always being there as a true Brother in Soul. When I am feeling sad I just punch up one of your reviews and life gets alot easier.Player "Baby come Back"(I know y'all are out there 2 steppin)cracks me up. In Romans it tells us to love him and do his work, and you are soldier for the Prince of Peace.......................

Brings back memories of all the High School dances at the National Guard Armories. Listening to Chicago, Lionel Richie, and all the other smooth performers brings back some memories. I won a blue Jean leisure suit with a ticket drawing at one of the dances. I was so cool wearing that with the flared legs and having my shirt collar out over the jacket collar, haha ! The style seems to be coming back too.

Literally one of the most iconic places for music on the face of the earth in the 1970's. It had a State-of-the-Art recording studio where everyone from Joe Walsh and Barnstorm and Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck to Earth Wind & Fire made great albums. But the pinnacle of extraordinary albums other than Chicago's were, Elton john's 'Caribou', 'Captain Fantastic and The Brown Dirt Cowboy' and 'Rock of the Westies'... and Supertramp's 'Even in the Quietest Moments'. To have been a fly on the wall at that place at that time. Unbelievable!

This is a fun video with one of my favorite bands. Early Chicago was incredible. Off-topic Jamel, but have you considered reviewing more fusion music. I was just listening to the band Brand X (you may have heard of their drummer). I'll let everybody look him up. Those that do play them always choose 'Nuclear Burn', a fine track; but I would suggest 'Disco Suicide' or 'Hate Zone' from their album Moroccan Roll.
