The skyline has changed so much since this recording with so many mega tall skyscrapers displaying incredible architecture. Please do another updated version we would all love it!!!
I just love Chicago's skyline. It's so imposing. I have a hard time deciding which skyline just looks as massive when approaching from the freeway. Chicago or NY? Both are breathtaking.
Brandon H Chicago, definitely Chicago, New York only has three skyscrapers that are tall, Chicago has 6, Willis tower, Aon Center, Trump international Hotel and Tower, John Hancock Center, 311 south Walker drive and att corporate center.
Outstanding! That ride was my first vision of Chicago back in 2005 but you had much better luck with the traffic. Love the soundtrack too, BIG thumbs up!
I'm back to enjoy this! As a former resident of Sprawling Business Park, TX (aka Dallas/Ft. Worth) I am so impressed with cities like Chicago which have actual rhyme and reason to their skylines. Truly an American treasure of a city. Would love to see an updated version to showcase all the new buildings!
The Skyway Bridge is the most extraordinary bridge I've ever driven on! It's so much fun to look at and drive on! It's amazing that the highest point of the road on the bridge is probably even higher than a ten-story building!
The one and only time I've been on the Skyway was sometime way back in the late 1970s (a lifetime ago). It was a steely-grey day in winter, with remnants of snow piled on the shoulder, half-melted and tarnished from exhaust fumes. Despite the changes I've read about throughout the years, certain things remain clear in my mind about this journey... especially how the skyline suddenly explodes out of nowhere right in front of you -- and then as the road curves sharply to the left, you skim the side of the Sears Tower. Seems close enough to touch, and then just as quickly, you are past it. Completely different feeling than when approaching the City from the Western suburbs on the Eisenhower, which I've done hundreds of times. Thanks for posting this -- great memories.
My old friend, the Skyway. We made countless trips over it during our trips from South Bend. I could drive that stretch blindfolded today.:) The Skyway wasn't widened when it was rebuilt; it was six lanes right from the start.
I just love chicago so much! I have a home there in Pingree Grove in a D.R. Horton community and I have been on a work assignment on the west coast for like 9 months and I am dying to get home. 3 weeks. I can make it.
@HensaStralem We in Oklahoma are used to a McDonald's in a tollway's median. There's one in the median of the Turner Turnpike halfway between Tulsa & Oklahoma City.
The towering housing projects he mentions in the video were the Robert Taylor Projects built in 1962. This was the biggest projects ever built. They were torn down over a period of years because they were unsafe. Drugs, shootings, rapes, kid nappings. MR.T lived there and so did Kirby Puckett. There are many more famous people who lived there over the years. There are some really great documentaries about the Robert Taylor projects and a book or two was written.
Fantastic video! Thanx so much 4 upping it! I'd say the music is well-chosen! I spent some time in Arlington Heights, I went to Chicago almost daily; great time.
Also I hate to 'double post' but I wanted to give a little shout out here; I too refuse to call it the 'Willis Tower'. When I was up in the Skydeck a year ago I would only buy one shirt; the one that still said 'SEARS Tower' on it.
I hope you had a wonderful time in my hometown! Gotta love the "she was nice" commentary..LOL Oddly enough, I haven't had occasion to ride the Skyway yet. Great video...I was moved by it, seriously.
Interestingly, I live near the west end of Interstate 90 (just north of the Seattle area). I do drive it every now and then. Probably would drive it all the way to Chicago and back if I had the opportunity (along with both the extra time and money of course).
Yesterday I was forced to follow other vehicles while driving a school bus over the skyway bridge both ways in the far right lane. I'm not good with heights. This footage doesn't at all convey the sense of how high up you feel on the far edge in the high seat of a school bus. It was all I could do to breath and not have a panic attack severe enough to endanger us.
you mustve travelled that early on a sunday morning. Everytime I get on that, its bumper to bumper traffic, mainly from 31st st to downtown northbound and its worse going south, like jam packed all the way to 87th street.
I was gonna suggest you do one for I-55 to lake shore drive and up that road but then I realized this video was from 2010. Great video though! Love the music too!
Well, he entered from the Indiana toll road, an area KNOWN for their tolls. The other tolls are there because Indiana forced Chicago to build a new highway so they needed something to make up for the cost.
Excellent video! I heard they're looking at completely replacing the Chicago Skyway. Is that true? Wow, the new Dan Ryan Expwy looks great. I remember driving thru there in 2006; it was a miserable, gridlocked mess at the time. Awesome view of downtown; it's nice to see someone finally recording Chicago's freeways in excellent, HD format.
No, they're not ridding of the skyway anytime soon. Chicago has the busiest road system in the world: makes sense because everything in North America is connected to it.
man i love the skyway i live colse by it man its so cool at night you see the lights on on man plus theres a park by it its call calumet park if someone ever gos by there its so cool! and cool song!
Great video! I've never been to this area of Chicago myself but it seems like a real interesting drive. Could you provide me the song's title and artist name? Same goes for your other videos, great music but I can't identify it! Thanks for the great work.
Brendan Schiltz your best bet is to take 55 to 294 northbound (294 is a tollway just a heads up) and then take 290 east and get off at Damen, you’ll be right in front of the UC
PeterGriffin4200 not exactly. Okay so I-290 goes toward the direction of Naperville but then splits off around Franklin Park and goes north towards Elmhurst, when it splits the road does continue straight but it’s no longer I-290 it becomes I-88 and that goes to Naperville
