Studs Terkel, author, historian, actor, and broadcaster, takes you on a tour of Chicago forty years ago. Scenes of Chicago yesterday, as Studs recollects his stories of Chicago, its history, and it's people. See parades, Mike Royco, Picasso, Downtown, State Street, Michigan Avenue, the "L", South Chicago Steel Mills, Robert Taylor Homes, the Blues with Blind John Davis, Theresa's Lounge, Maxwell street, Bungalows, the Sox..so much more. Stud takes you to the street with Chicagoans as he weaves his Chicago stories. From 16mm Color film, with fade.

What a treasure Studs was...and what a joy to see him at his best in this film.

I can't agree with you more. One could not find a better host to tell his many Chicago stories as he walks the streets of Chicago. A treasure, no doubt!

27:00. Chicago and the blues. By this time in the late 70s that perfect run of the blues in Chicago was sadly on its last legs , but what a legacy

Oakland beat the Sox that night 8-3 (Friday, September 14, 1979). Also was LaMarr Hoyt's MLB debut.

At 28:42, it's the diner at Irving Park and Marshfield. Biasetti's in the background.

Yep - Amazing Grace - the melody, words and song are the same, But, how it’s sung might be different and with what amounts of effort. Peace DavE

Excellent video which I expect since Studs is the star. Get a few ironworkers and welders together and they could have come up with something better than that Picasso heap of scrap iron.

Glad you enjoyed it...maybe those ironworkers could mount the Picasso on a rocket ship! That might look cool...
