Cool video bro!! I been a yard jockey 1 year 5 months now come the 18th. I love it!! I was a OTR truck driver for Navajo Express before I became a yard jockey.
When I first started that was my problem. All I did was different angles even though the boss wanted it done a certain way. I just out maneuver him in a truck when out in the yard and can back up faster than he can lol
Hooking air lines to reefer trailers always suck. Don't forget your tug test. Me personally, after hooking a trailer to the cab, I never set the tractor brakes after that point. I just utilize the trailer brakes to hold me. That is after a good tug test of course.
You know how the comments are usually filled with people telling you how to do your job? You should really do a tug test. Leave it in forward gear after revving it once or twice and then hook up like normal, and as soon as you hit the red button your going forward. It doesnt slow you down and its safer.
@@chicagotruckerlifeforlife5570you’re doing pretty good driving that yard dog semi truck hauling those empty trailers so awesome 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
@@Mr.BigCog piss on that,I was going to be a yard dog for a local grocery chain, the pay sounded decent, but after really thinking about it I changed my mind.
@@brianobrian9334 hey man, every company is different and most care enough about their employees to leave the a/c in. UPS is a different beast lol. But if the pay is good it is a good job to have, youre pretty on your own and its honestly pretty fun.
To My Opinion “YES”…More Importantly Is That You Gotta Love What You Do (Job-Wise) To All Those People On This Planet That Get Paid On Doing What They Love Is Ah High Blessing…🙌
How is Chicago Yard Switching in places like this during the Winter? I moved south from Wisconsin but feel like I just traded for different weather problems. Main thing I was tired of up north is my yard didn't keep up on salting and plowing. They actually had us run the Yard Truck with tire chains.
Hi I love this video! I’ve been interested in getting into this job but I’ve had a very hard time to find one that’s willing to train or they want experience. Any suggestions to help me get into a job like this?
I'm a jockey at XPO logistics. Hire on as a Dockworker-Hostler, no previous experience needed and they'll put you through a four week hostler training course. Pay is good, I'm making 28 an hour at the moment.
Is yard spotter and jockey the same thing? I'm looking into getting my CDL very soon and this looks like more something I would want to do. Instead of being out on the streets having assholes cutting me off lol.
There’s a hissing sound (air released) once the fifth wheel locked the king pin. But, still I’m doing tug test every after coupling, raising a bit before putting the air line. I think, he’s just confident on what he’s doing. (Hylife Foods, yard jockey)
Yeah my friends dad just recommended me for this as I’m waiting on a few unions I filed for. It’s for a rail yard I presume? My dads not too attention savvy but apparently no cdl and it’s a rail yard I guess. Honestly I just don’t like parking big trailers, as I have this fear of failure or messing up. Tips?
@@chicagotruckerlifeforlife5570 Thanks for this saying, I'm learning how to park a trailer into a dock door its so hard for me the grasp the concept but I'm trying hopefully I will get it soon enough.
Any tips for anyone coming into this kind of job? I am 19 and just got hired for this same position at Pennington seed company that has a 98 acre yard with over 20 buildings and 100 loading docks and its all gravel paths and hills
Depending If How Much Experience You Have For Large Companies (Costco, P&G, Amazon) One Or Two Experience Is Fine, Companies Smaller That Have Only One-Branch Will Take One-Year-Experience And Last-But-Not-Least “Hole-In-The-Wall” Warehouse That Has Only Like Ah Couple Of Docks And One-Spotter-Truck Are Willing To Take Any That Just Has Ah CDL…Remember Nor To Catch Any DUI Or Reckless-Driving Anything That Can Mess-up Your MVR…Drive Safe & Slow Down…👍
I am not trying to start a fight but, I notice you don't do a "tug test" when you hook up to a trailer and pull it out of the door. Alot of people listen for the "click" when the fifth wheel hits the kingpin. Not trying to tell you how to do your job but, but from one yard spotter to another..... tug test.... tug test.... tug test.
You said you weren't trying to tell him how to do his job but then you told him 3 times. Tug test is a waste of time. Pay attention when you're pulling it out and you're fine.
(I Do It As Ah Part-Time)…This Job Is So Sweet & Eazy…You Don’t Have To Deal With The Craziness Of Downtown Traffic And A-Holes Cutting You Off…Some Places Still DONT Require Ah CDL But It’s Still Good To Have In Your Back-Pocket…👍 Are You Looking Into Getting Your C.D.L…?
