Important work. Its so easy to dehumanize cyclists from behind a windshield.

Good bike infrastructure increases mobility, decreases congestion, decreases pollution, and increases health and happiness. What's not to love?

What a cool idea!! I'll definitely have to check that out. Totally agree that you get to meet all kinds of people out there on a bike. I had an experience recently where I visited a new city and as I left the train station on a rental bike I had a nice little conversation with a local rider while we waited at a stop light. Pretty cool to start meeting people in a new place right away like that, which wouldn't have happened in a car.

Too many benefits to list if we enable more cycling. Always funny see drivers cite the cyclists running stop signs..... As if THAT is the thing impeding traffic.... No, it's not the 70,000 motorists in rush hour slowing you down every day..... It's that 1 cyclist who rolled a stop sign 6 months ago.

Bikes are great for Kids. In addition to walking running and public transportation their mental health increases. It helps them mature. Unfortunately some drivers block the bike lanes or dont pay attention.

It’s a nice little exposé from what’s going on in Chicago. I do lots of cycling myself. I think it’s just a better term to refer to people who ride bikes as cyclists and the term bikers from what I see and here is for motorcyclists.

Cycling should be so dangerous. We need better infrastructure.
@ChloeBornstein
@ChloeBornstein 7 часов назад
I always like to frame it this way: bicycling and walking aren’t actually that dangerous. They’re never going very fast and can’t terribly hurt anyone if they collide. . Cars are dangerous. Cars regularly kill people in all situations.

Big difference in the damage a motorist can do blowing a stop sign in a multi ton vehicle vs a 200lb cyclist going half their speed.
@stirfryjedi
@stirfryjedi День назад
@@PoserBallinBut let's be real, watching some middle aged guy in lycra blowing every stop sign at 25 mph on a 7k bike is pure arrogance. I'm a commuter cyclist and it confuses the motorists when I actually do want to stop at lights & signs.

This is a ridiculous generalization that comes up in every single discussion about cyclists. Yes, some people do it. No, most people don’t. Most people don’t drive the speed limit either. Does that mean every driver is a complete jerk? Also it shows a complete lack of understanding of how much more visual space cyclists and pedestrians have when not sitting in a car. The reason cyclists often roll through stop signs is because they can see if cars are there or not from a much farther distance. Hence a ton of jurisdictions ALLOW cyclists to roll through stops and treat them as a yield if the intersection is clear - look up what an “Idaho Stop” is. Cyclists still need to stop when there’s other traffic, but due to their nature, they shouldn’t have to when it’s clear. It’s the same reason pedestrians often jaywalk with no issue. It’s obviously a problem when done incorrectly, but when done properly, it’s much more efficient. Oh and keep in mind it's even MORE confusing when a cyclist is slowing to a stop because there's a car already there with the right of way, and the driver waves them frantically through, even if it would be more efficient for the cyclist to let the car get throught the intersection and go after. That's a situation which offers less predictability, and more stress/physical effort on the part of the cyclist (who is now stopping and starting and trying to power through the intersection quickly). Oh and of course we had another comment mentioning “lycra”. Can’t have a comment section on cyclists without that comment (despite the fact that racers take up a minuscule amount of the cycling population and none of their material is actually Lycra anymore). Stop pretending you ride or have any empathy for cyclists. It’s a thinly-veiled attempt that we all see through.

I got rear ended in my car while stopped at a stop sign. Just imagine a bike getting rear ended by a drunk driver. I dont have a windshield, pillars, a grill and huge side mirrors. If I have clear view I am not stopping like a sitting duck.
