Yes I thought this video was lost, I was privileged to be a part of this movement. I'm the one almost at the end of this film, under the help of Yolanda Lopez, I'm the young girl with my school friends back in 1979. We painted the girls growing out of corns and the Mexican eagle behind us. We were once called "Las mujeres muralistas" (the muralists women). We did asked many people for support, but no one would listen to four girls, because murals were painted mainly by men, or guys. Well we did it, not the best looking mural but we're glad we painted it. JT

@fjf sjdnx we are the Yoeme, meaning the people, we are Yaqui...we are native Americans from Phoenix Az and migrated to Sonora Mexico throughout the season's...we have been around before Mexico was taken over by Spain and the Jesuit priests. We are related to the Yaquis in the Mexican State of Sonora...there is also a town called Yaqui. We are related to the Tohono O'dam at the border of Az and Sonora Mexico. My family and I don't consider ourselves Americans, Mexicans, Spaniards or Indians...others call us those names. As far as Chicano goes, I think that is a mixture of someone who calls themselves Mexican but lives in the U.S...many people don't realize that a person from Mexico is similar to a person from the U.S. they are a mixture of native blood and blood from all over the world. I hope this helps you and remember there are thousands of native people's on this continent...I come from only one.

I am Anglo but I admire this park and community. In my native Austin, there used to be many neighborhoods in the inner city that looked like this as well. My parents had a shop for years in a central hispanic neighborhood. I always felt at home there. Due to gentrification, the community has changed now. I love this little park under the bridge. I would love to see it if I ever visited San Diego.

I wish chicanos were still like this .. so passionate and protesting together and smart people, great sense of fashion , even the gangs had great fashion .... we had a big voice ... we need to expand more which Chicano style from west to east of United States .. not only in the United States but we should expand worldwide ! We need to unite La Raza .. I hate when I see chicanos (girls and guys) being white wash acting white or some other race ! We are chicanos ! And be proud of our history and let’s keep learning about our history and let’s protest for schools and colleges to teach our history! Cause we have a great history!

I grew up in a Chicano community and never saw any white or black people till I got older. My wife is white and has a Chicano accent like me. All her friends are brown. I grew up in the south and the westside of San Antonio TX. This documentary is great. I feel I understand exactly where the Chicanos in this video are coming from

All the Indians (AKA Native Americans, Indigenous Peoples) I know, call themselves “Indians”. I have yet to see a “Native American Casino” or an Indigenous People’s Casino. No offense, just an observation. BTW. I’m 41% Indian and proud of it.

I am thankful for this video and I am even in it. The footage from the ALL THE WAY TO THE BAY protest/March. We ditched school (San Diego High) that day. My friends said they saw us on the news. If the maker of this VID can tell me where he got his footage from I'd really appreciate it. Back in the day, Sunday nights there used to be a Car Hops there. Please let me know.

It is a good thing to criticize our own ideals. Chicano culture has many faces and ideas. Just like The Constitution, Chicano culture also has to be amended in order to appropriate our future generations. Pride is a fleeing thing, and personality has to be guided

I am proud to be Chicano. I saw a documentary on chicano park, I was so excited !! We went,, all the way from Utah, I was so disappointed. The park was horrible. Bum's everywhere, people past-out, needles all over the place, trash everywhere. No grass, just ran down dirt. trash can's full. Looks like the people of the park gave up on the place. Sad. The Murals where nice ( Very Classy ) It was the park itself. Most of the grass was dead, a lot of trash everywhere, and there was Several people past-out. Under the overpass where we parked there was a lot of Needles, Then we crossed the little street to get to the park. If I lived around there I would go down there every week to clean-up our park. And make us proud! Like we are!!
