I worked for Chick as his Estate Manager back when I first moved to LA. Amazing musician as well as a sweet guy. When he was putting the music together for the album this song first appeared on. He knew I was into the Blues and asked me for my favorite Blues tracks. He wanted some inspiration for this song he was going to dedicate to Miles. I gave him copies of a bunch of old Blues songs...He also asked the band and a bunch of friends. He had his desk full of old Chicago Blues albums for a couple weeks and they inspired him to write this!
They all kick so much ass with soul! Anyone who thinks you can’t be fast and soulful on a blues should listen to this... it’s about the perfect jazz:blues for putting that bs to rest. Have loved them from the beginning and love em to death now.
My first time seeing this band was in Indianapolis over 20 years ago. Chick Corea left an imprint in my musical mind forever. Love and will miss ya man 🎹🙏🏾😇
I really like this piece: the bluesy form, the ridiculous (melody?) lines, particularly the guitar and piano double on the out and an absolutely classic sax solo. But is anyone else really annoyed by Chic’s constant interference in everyone else’s solos?
I noticed a little bit of that (he never really does anything like that ever). But ChicK really does not interfere much and he mostly adds in the pauses of other solos....may be his volume is what bothers you at some points.
