Its been 2 weeks since we set our eggs to incubate! This week we are checking on some iffy eggs that I was not sure about during last weeks checking and learning all about chick development from days 8-14!

I swear I will never get bored with these subjects! I have toyed with the idea of going into veterinary medicine when my children are grown 💖

I heard that temperature can change if male or female... That true?
@TheNamelessHomestead
@TheNamelessHomestead 3 года назад
Awesome question! The answer is yes but also no! Lol. For Chickens the sex of the chick is determined immediately at the time of fertilization. That being said it has been shown that temperature changes in the incubator kill male embryos at much higher rates than female embryos so you can use temperature as a way of "culling" male embryos. I wouldn't advise an attempt at it however because it's not terribly accurate and it's very difficult to do in general.

@@TheNamelessHomestead oh. Okay. Thank you. That makes sense. Females are more hardy. 👍

Strangely true and it works the same in humans actually. Baby girls who are born prematurely are more likely to survive than little boys. Strange and sad but true 🤷‍♀️
