1 1/2 TSP. SALT
1/2 TSP. PEPPER
1 CHICKEN BOUILLON KNORR
OR 1 TBSP. GRANULES
2 STALKS OF CELERY
1 ONION CHOPPED
MAKE 2 BATCHS OF DUMPLINGS (RECIPE below)
2-10.5 OZ CANS OF CREAM OF CHICKEN
1 TSP. SALT
1/2 TSP. PEPPER
4 HEAPING TBSP. SELF-RISING FLOUR (WHITE-LILY)
1 CUP MILK

My paternal grandmother is the only person I ever knew who made dumplings like you. My other grand taught her daughter (Mom) and she taught us to make fluffy drop dumplings -- softer dough, no rolling or cutting.

Chicken and dumplings is one of my favourite recipies...in England we use suet instead of shortening or butter...we roll them into small balls and they fluff up during the cooking process and we put them into the chicken stew for the last ten minutes and cook them that way altogether...it's interesting to see the differences 🙂 BTW I love your channel..I watch it regularly...everything about it works ...thank you guys. 💗

I’ve never made chicken and dumplings because it sounded really hard but after watching you I think I could do it!! My grandma and my mother were from W Virginia and I learned a lot from my grandma. My mother was a very good cook too but never really showed us girls how to cook, we learned in our own and the things my grandma taught me. One thing she always told me is “a messy cook is a good cook” and I didn’t disappoint her one bit!! Lol I would also love the recipe you were talking about with the chicken and mushrooms??

That's how I make mine, but I use water to mix dumplings. Don't stir too much and they never t tare up. I try to cook like my Mama did too!!!

I just love chicken and dumplings. My grandmother was bohemian, she taught my mom how to make potato dumplings. One of my favorite memories. I will be trying this recipe

My dumplings dissolved/disappeared until I learned stirring was my problem. I now gently move a spoon around on the bottom, very little. My 80 yo MIL taught me her shortcut. Canned buttermilk biscuits, not the butter kind. I flour flatten & cut w a pizza cutter, done in no time. Handy after working all day. Thicken w flour if need. Dumplings are covered in flour as I add to boiling broth/milk. Then I cut down heat to slow simmer, 15-30 min as needed. Her boys never knew she “cheated” & used canned. I can’t tell the difference. She was 94 when she passed in the afternoon at home, after she made chicken & dumplings for her boys.

Hey Tammy, I have been subscribed for sometime now. I really enjoy you and Chris’s videos. I am from Athens Georgia area and your food and recipes are what I was raised on. My Mama and Aunts cooked so good. They were raised in a large family in the 1920s and some cooked this better and this one cooked that better. LOL. My Mama was the best. But dumplings were not one. I just learned why. Hers always broke up . She always used buttermilk. I will try your recipe this week. I again enjoy your posts. Your other videos have been excellent the utensils especially that one you use to blend the Criso . I love it….

Finally...dumplings like my grandmother taught me. I cannot stand any real harsh flavors added. Just chicken and dumplings. I do the pastry in strips about 6" long dropp3d in the broth. Also, flour stuck to it makes for a thicker broth. I do not use soup...just broth the chicjen cooked in with salt and pepper. That may sound bland, but by dropping butter in along with the dumplings...pure rich chicken and dumplings.

Everytime I make chicken and noodles I turn them off before finished and let the residual heat finish them. Same with pasta. Gives me time to work on the other stuff

That is true. I was taught to bring pasta to boil for a few minutes. Turn off stove, cover and let rest for 10 minutes. I like the walking away part, too❤

Thank you Tammy. Chicken and dumplings are my favorite. This is similar to the way Mother made them. I make them with Crisco too and you are so right, if your boiling a whole chicken then use bone and skin breast. The flavor is much better. Sure wish I had a bowl. When I make them I have to make four or five recipes b3cause the grandkids want to take some home. Enjoy.❤️✝️🙏

If you add a tablespoon or two of broth to each of the “empty” soup cans, stir it around a little, and pour it back into your broth, you’ll get ALL the soup “goodness” out of the can!! “No ‘flavor’ left behind”!! 🤭 ❤️

I bet your food is better than 99.9% of the restaurants out there. I’ve not ate at any home style restaurant that had good food. I don’t even try them anymore because I know they’re not good. Being a country girl and being raised and living in N Ga mtns, We all learned to cook like our Great Grandmaws, Grannys, and Mommas did! There ain't nothing that I can't and ain't cooked! I never used a recipe in my life until a couple years ago and I still wound up doing it the way I'd want it. Lol. When you're a great cook, You don't need recipes! I can taste food and near bout tell how to cook it and what ingredients to put in it. Couldn't nobody out cook my Momma anywhere! She never cut corners but she never stressed herself out either! She could take a empty kitchen and make a feast and it would be delicious and full of flavor. She never used a bunch of seasoning and few herbs but her food would melt in your mouth! I've been cooking since I was 7 years old. I came from a very large family and being the oldest girl, I had to help Momma. I started making hand rolled Biscuits at age 7 and ain't stopped! I'm almost 70 now and I have my Mommas Old Wooden Biscuit Bowl that my Great Grandpaw carved for her out of a stump when we lived on a Sawmill yard! He gave it to her for her Wedding Gift back in 1936. He sai d he wanted her first Biscuit that she made from that bowl. Her Biscuits were so light and tasty that they'd melt in your mouth and the perfect size! She kept flour in it at all times and her sifter ready for the next batch of biscuits! She'd make a round bowl of flour in the Middle of the bowl, scoop her a hand full of lard outta the 5 gallon can, mix flour n lard together and add her homemade Buttermilk and mix it all together, roll up her dough still all in her biscuit bowl and start pinching off with her thumb and hand, roll them up and fill her big biscuit pan in a matter of minutes from start to finish! One important thing She always told me was, Don't handle your dough to much! Hers were perfect everytime! I mastered hand rolled Biscuits by the time I was 8 years old but never perfected them to look as good as Mamas until I was about 12-14.. The taste came many years later bc she made the Best! Mine were really good but Momma had Magic Fingers! Everybody that ever knew her always said, Evelyn, You have Magic Fingers and always praised her on her Cooking! Her Biscuits were Heavenly! She used only Salt and Pepper to season her Chicken n Dumplins! She only used her Chicken Broth to Cook her Dumplins in! They were so delicious! 🙏🙏❤❤👏👏😚😚😁

Not knocking anyone's cooking, but for me those dumplings are WAY too thick. We've always rolled ours out real thin. We use flour, egg, butter, and hot water to make them. A recipe handed down thru my Mom's family.

I am sorry, but your mama made egg noodles, not dumplings. Where I am from this lady's dumplings are too thin. My grandmothers and great-grandmothers made biscuit dough and dropped it by the spoonful into the hot broth. They come out really puffy and light.

I was talking to the lady doing the video and she took it without offense as it was meant. And apparently you and I come from different places, cause where I'm from this is how we do it!

K. I need some help. I am from the north and never had dumplings like this before. I never liked my grandma's chicken and dumplings as a kid and have just assumed that dumplings were all made the same way she made it. She made a super sticky, unseasoned, self rising flour with water water. I assume she used shortening as well but I don't remember it. Anyway, she would take two dinner spoons and make kind of a tablespoon size amount and drop it into the soup. In the end each of these little balls would puff up to a biscuit size and everyone would get 2. I never liked them. To me they were tasteless balls of slimy paste. Anyone ever make something that sounds like this? Maybe it's not dumplings. I'd hate to have sworn off a food because I never actually had it.

Tammy I just wanted to say I made these Chicken n Dumplings last night. It was my 1st time making real Dumplings and it was Absolutely Amazing!!! I only made 1 change and that was the 2 cans of cream of chicken soup, I only added 1 can and I did 1 cup cold water and 2 tblsp. Corn starch as I needed the broth to thicken up because I still had alot of broth left. If you haven't tried this recipe what are you waiting on! Thank You so Very Much for Sharing this recipe I will never go back to dropped Dumplings again! Love Yall!!!🥰

I was raised to cut up the whole chicken to use in chicken and dumpling and boil the chicken pieces in water to make broth is that what you did boil or did you bake the chicken? I saw another channel and they baked chicken then shredded it and added it to the dumplings and broth from box. I didn't see how you cooked the chicken. I have never seen anyone baking the chicken and dumping the fat from baking making broth out of cream chicken soup and canned chicken broth my family always used chicken fat in the broth from boiled chicken but I'm in my 50s and we lived remote and didn't always have canned soup available.

I'm making chicken and dumplings today for dinner I have not made them in a few years and all my recipes from my mom and grandma are in my head they didn't follow recipe books. I learned besides them and I was just refreshing my memory watching videos. Your dumplings were closer to how my family made them. My grandma would add a few seasonings to hers like basil, and little chicken bullion pepper to the dough, my mom made hers like you. Thank you for the refresh.

As to your not liking sweet peas until after you had your baby, I was a picky-eater until after having my baby & thereafter I love everything. Also, I don't salt anything when cooking. My husband had a massive heart attack when he was 55 & a heart transplant at 63. Therefore, i season my food afterward. I have cats & a dog at my feet when I'm in the kitchen. My husband stays in the living room because all the kitchen area is overtaken. 😂

I can cook well being from Savannah ga & we are a lot a like in that area. I remember my only grandmother I knew taught me @ an early age rolling out biscuits & dumplings I had to stand on some steps my uncle Leo made so I could reach the table to make these things. I lost my grandmother @ 16 yrs old. Grandma made biscuits with bacon grease & buttermilk. I like using butter flavored crisco as I grew up. I love your videos. It's so good to see what to do if you forget to put the cream soup in after the dumplings this is very educational thanks a bunch. I was wondering how you were gonna do that I probably would have pulled out some of the liquid mixed it with the cream of soup and then pour it back into the pot with the dumplings but your way was so much easier and it worked

I have a laminate countertop and it does cut I would use a pastry sheet and I think you have one or board, I have cuts all on my countertops on one area. From knives and pizza cutter.

Have you tried using all purpose flour with this dumpling recipe? I am wanting to make these today but do not have self rising flour. Couldn’t I just add 1.5 tsp baking powder and 1/4 tsp salt per cup of flour?

That looks superb. One of these days I'd like to try to make it but I have arthritis in my low back and I can't stand very long before it starts to hurt but it looks delicious thank you for sharing.

It always boggles my mind when people start adding S&P or condiments before actually tasting the dish. Trust the chef or cook. Trust the process. And _then_ adjust to taste.

Yikes....I am totally guilty of this! As I hide my face! 😂 Our DIL's parents invited us over to eat, and the first thing I said was, "Pass the salt and pepper, please." Our son told us later that that got off with her mother so bad, and I was mortified that I offended her. It has just always been a habit for me that I learned from my mom. I've since learned to taste food first since dining at fine restaurants where they don't even put salt/pepper on the table. Taste first.

Tammy, I didn’t see a recipe for “potatoes with white cream sauce”, on your recipe page. Do you have one?? My Mommy used to make them by cubing potatoes, boiling them with “half-moon, thinly sliced onion, until just tender. Then topped them with a “bacon-grease based”, white sauce!! Yumm!!!! 🤤
