You know I think the most interesting piece of media to ever come out of Chicken Little is that there was a TV pilot that was completed and kids had the option to either vote it or Phineas & Ferb to become a fully fledged series, you can guess who won. I’m not joking either there’s legitimate footage of the pilot online that got recently found earlier this year as of writing this in 2024. You can watch footage of it right here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-L26Y2tl9VmY.htmlsi=vmnDiGkIofBdPUqU
I heavily disagree, it was way too early for them to do this kind of character thing. It's same as what Shrek was in pre production when they had Chris Farley doing the voice, Shrek's arc was that he wanted to make his parents proud by living by himself, yet that was taken out in favour of him being taken for granted and with no mention of him having parents, and it still worked. What was in the final movie, still works because you don't have Chloe in the film, to try and tell Buck what would work in best regards to Chicken being a failure, and you can feel their struggle as a father and son because of that, even if Buck is neglectful, he's neglectful for a reason because he doesn't know what to do with his life anymore as his wife is gone and that sets Chicken on a mission to prove to his dad that he and Chloe, made the right decision, giving birth to a son like him.
@@buzzytrombone4353 You are seriously using shrek as an excuse for how this movie's arc worked in the currently film? What the heck do you mean way too early, everyone has different stories for movies. This movie doesn't work with it's endless pop culture references, hideous animation, the constantly neglectful father especially him not defending his son from the town bullying him, and a lot of annoying characters that just make this film not good. Yes shrek did use pop culture references but it never constantly shoved it in your face like this movie did.
Wow. Just...wow. Buck is so much more likable in this version - he genuinely loves his little girl. She didn’t need to do anything to earn his forgiveness or anything, he just realized how stupid he was being and apologized. This should’ve been the movie.
the fisrt studio director demanded the protagonist be made a boy instead of a girl (AFTER the project was almost finished) then the 2nd, newly appointed studio head demanded the entire (again basically already finished) film be reworked to be about aliens and sports and have all the storylines "simplified" i.e. dumbed down...
@@Revan498 Man that studio director just sounds like a trend chaser, not a storyteller. Like sure trend-chasing is cool and can be implemented well and put on repeat, but a good story is about connecting and while I can somewhat connect with the actual Chicken Little film, this one scene blows all of it out of the water with how effective it is.
@@mariagiuliazanon8564Okay. THAT makes it all the more disappointing. Studio executives needs to learn shut their damn mouths, keep hands to themselves, and let these talented workers *C O O K!*
It helps that another adult is around to call him out and make it clear that the film isn't condoning his behavior. The current version just has the mother dead like she always is and uses that as an excuse for Buck to be a terrible parent.
they should’ve kept the mom, there needed to be someone to keep buck in check. this version is a lot better, should’ve kept chicken little a girl.. better dynamic
Still sound like so much better film, doesn't seem like there's a lot of american films about girl dad relationships. And this looks like pretty great.
I actually kinda wish they went with this version of the movie. It just seems much more heartfelt and interesting, and I think the movie may have been a lot better if it was like this
Yeah, Buck Ace Cluck was kinda of a real dick of a dad in the original release. But this version shows that while he is stick a bit, he finally realizes he's wrong immediately and lets his daughter know he loves her. But of course, we get a version where the dad doesn't even stand up for his son, says "I can't tell you how embarrassed I am folks.", and tells his own son to pretend to not exist.
He’s much more sympathetic here, he’s just overworked and tired, with the added stress and sleepless nights due to his daughters fears. He loves his daughter and who she is, he’s just stressed and doing his best with her issues and supporting his family. It’s like here we have a movie about a father connecting with his child, and learning to be a better father, and they were like nah too boring. We need aliens, and we’ll throw in the father thing as the heavily cut backbone of the movie, which is also somehow an afterthought.
This is how the movie should’ve been:a Coming-of-Age story with Wolves instead of Aliens. Also,Buck Cluck is more of a realistic father who geninuely cared about his daughter/son and wants her to be a normal daughter instead of a lousy neglectful dad who pushes his son away
If they had kept Buck’s motivation for wanting Chicken Little to be a regular kid, it would’ve at least be understandable for his character, but instead he comes off as a neglectful father who care more about his own reputation than his son’s feelings
this chicken little: slice of life, teaches the lesson of loving someone no matter what their flaws are, and that you are not a freak just because you have anxiety the chicken little we got: bizzare sci-fi, teaches you that your anxieties will come true eventually, so just keep prepping no matter how much people make fun of you for it!
The latter one is technically more realistic and it's a hard, unflinching look at the giant steaming pile of crap that is modern American society (as well as how Chicken Little and his pals soldier on through all of that crap, never give up, and eventually come out on top). Is it fitting for Disney? Perhaps not, but I actually kind of admire how gutsy and off-kilter it was.
@@KingdomHeartsBrawler meh a bit of a dark take there, I think that just because some of that is true, doesn't mean it's all true and the first part is still very true as well.
@@andymcmillan2193the conflict would obviously be Chicken Little's anxieties and how her parents and herself deals with them. It's slice of life, so it's not gonna be the most crazy and dramatic.
It's kinda funny how the final version of Chicken Little trying to subvert the expectations actually made the movie worse, this script may be more basic but it just hits so much harder 🥹
While I find the final version of Chicken Little is very decent, in my opinion, I think the scrapped version of the movie should deserve a remake, but this time, Pixar should do it.
Literally every scarped Disney project is better then the final version, I would pay a billion dollars to get every single scarp eventually animated by Pixar.
Honestly, as a girl with ADHD, this version of Chicken Little is VERY relatable for me, and I Wonder what It would have been like to watch this Full movie...
In my case, because of having an autistic brother with anger issues, I got identified with this Buck Cluck. We both want "to have a regular life like everyone else, a regular kid (or brother) like everyone else", but, although the behavior of our "non-regular" relatives annoys us, we do love and care about them deep down.
Man, this film lost a lot when the mother character was cut. Having someone for Buck to bounce off of and hold him responsible for his parenting would have really smoothed people over to his character.
The only thing I would change from this scene is for Buck to not let her get the idea that she embarrassed him. Have him tell her that he's not embarrassed and he's proud of her special little girl. However, while the moment brightens up, deep down she still senses doubt between them. So now she has this goal, determination, and drive to one day make her father really proud of her.
Honestly, I think the way it plays out here is more realistic. As someone who grew up with a severe anxiety disorder, there were times when my parents fucked up and made me feel like I was a burden on their lives for the way my brain is wired.
I think the plan was for that to be his arc, like to me it shows (and even somewhat in the og film) that Buck Cluck is not good at communicating and is socially awkward. I think the overall plan was to show his growth into being a mature father figure instead of just being a dad to a little girl.
This Buck is a lot better. While he is frustrated by his kid, he has enough self-awareness to know he still has to act like a father and not treat his child as a burden.
Because her mom is doing the proper parent thing to do and supervising her daughter’s bouts of imagination while helping support them in a nurturing manner. And since she loves her daughter so much, mom went and read up on all the monsters and creatures and things her daughter talks about so she can help her daughter learn and control the imagination. It’s a rather common family dynamic stereotype. A troubled kid at odds with a father who doesn’t understand with a caring mom knowing just how to play the go between until the dad and kid can reconcile properly.
This storyline is perfect for many reasons, Holly Hunter makes female chicken little sound adorable and like an actual child, the relationship with female chicken little and Buck Cluck is alot better too, plus he is a good loving father who is just concerned for his daughter compared to what we got, the mother being in this makes it more intressting plus she keeps Buck in check, the plot alone sounds very intressting and compared to what we got it sounds great, Mark Dindal was making this for his daughters and he was basing it off of his relationship with his daughters too, overall this seems like it was going to be a sweet, heartwarming movie, how could Michale Esiner say no to this!?. I hope that someday this will get remade with the compleate original plot.
Michael Eisner: “The protagonist must be a boy, or the movie won’t sell!” David Stainton: “Where are the pop culture references and trendy stuffs?Kids love these stuffs! Look, look at Shrek! The movie succeeds because it drops pop culture jokes every five seconds!” And that’s how two dumb executives ruined a passion project of a great artist. I wish I lived in an alternate reality where this is the movie we get.
@@CvndyClvb he is kinda right I mean Disney never listens to the audience so there’s no way they would ever make a movie with this original story line if chicken little was made by the same people who made the sonic movie they would probably use this original story line
@@anonymous665 Oh I know that, I just assumed they meant "nah" in like a rude way like if they went with the other storyline it wouldn't be good, if I make sense. And that kinda irritated me but sorry I was rude. I'm aware Disney doesn't listen 99% of the time.
@@MelonTartVA Correct. Disney was trying to be trendy instead of being themselves. I can imagine the director being devastated that his work was bastardized by corporate meddling.
@@emmanuelcarter3551 And at the time, DreamWorks was kicking ass with CG and stuff with the pop culture references and stuff, along with Disney having a bunch of box office bombs. It’s probably sad that if we did get this version of the film it probably would’ve failed financially, despite it being CG. Does that make any sense or did I get that right?
@@SpongeyBubby You're right. Nobody wants good storytelling anymore. People wants things that are trending because to them trendy shit matters more than telling a good story.
This melts my heart because Buck has flaws but was never meant to be a narcissistic jerk. The original scene acknowledges Buck's character better than the final version.
As much as I hate the trend of "bad female reboot" based on popular franchise, this is the perfect movie for Disney to remake and make Chicken Little a girl since that was the original concept, but no, here's another live action remake of the classic animated movies you love like Little Mermaid and Peter Pan.
@@ryantheanimator1156 I've heard 2 reasons why they change Chicken Little to a boy. The 1st reason comes from the DVD commentary (although it has been a while since I watch it) according to the directors they changed Chicken Little to a boy because they thought if you're short and a girl it wasn't a problem, but if you're short and a boy then it's a problem. (Keep in mind that this comes from the DVD commentary that I have not watched in years, so I could get something's wrong here). The 2nd reason comes from TV Tropes, and according to them Michael Eisner thought it would be hard to market a girl character to younger boys.
My favorite part about this had to be 4:04 because of how buck felt bad but instead of immediately going in and just overwhelming her (like a lot of parents seem so keen on doing) He gives her room to breathe (sort herself out) but also letting her know that he's there and ready to talk whenever she wants to come around, coming in with the intentions of being a parent but also treating her like she's actually someone with feelings who sometimes need their space and that's just beautiful to me.
This.... is what they had at first? This is better. Way better then that trash I saw years ago. I hated the final version. This one was... hell, better.
Man the original idea was good 😐 It stinks that Disney/Pixar always does this because they want to match with the media and get the money instead of showing that kids can have paranoia and that is absolutely ok, kids can have a mental illness and that is ok, it can be helped, I just wish that instead of them going for money they would go for relatable things more tbh
Micheal Eisner, CEO of Disney at the time, convinced the producers that Chicken Little should be a guy, because in his own words, “If you were a boy and small, everyone would make fun of you”. I have no idea what the other unnecessary parts came from, like the aliens, but whatever, bad film of all time...
“If you were a boy and small, everyone would make fun of you”. *Wow, how sexist!* I would have thought a more reasonable explanation for wanting the gender-change was to stay consistent with the older Chicken Little cartoon Disney did in 1943.
What this tells me is that the female chicken little was supposed to have supportive parents and the eventual male one got the opposite. Sounds about right.
@@RogueT-Rex8468 Yeah, guys don't need support networks, they just need to shut the fuck up, stop talking and work. Otherwise, they're not men, they are useless. Source, being a man since birth. (Also, this is sarcasm, by the way.)
Unfortunately, considering what Disney was going through in the early 2000's, it is safe to say that the original concept for Chicken Little could never save the studio.
@@cupcakegirl8537 In a way, Chicken Little was supposed to be the beginning of the end of Disney animation. The successful hits of DreamWorks animation and Pixar threatened to make Disney animation irrelevant. By the time Chicken Little received it's mixed to negative critical reception, it was clear that Disney animation had to go.
I’ll admit while I don’t really hate the Chicken Little we got, this early version from everything I’ve seen so far honestly looks amazing and really seems like something that’s right up my ally in terms of storytelling, as this early version honestly just looks like the type of movie that was made for me, along with the kinda story I would probably write, it has a society of animals as our main characters, it’s down to earth and relatable, it has very likable characters, it’s very warm, and wholesome, and it overall actually feels more like a Disney movie than the final version does, and I’m not gonna lie if this early version had actually been made there’s a chance it possibly could have been possibly one of my top 10 personal favorite movies from the Disney animated canon, and I guess I have something else to add on my list on cancelled Disney movies I wish would have been made, up there with My Peoples, Kingdom of the Sun, Musicana, Where the Wild Things Are, Chanticleer, Mort, Peter Rabbit, and a couple of others, I would just like to say that Michael Eisner and David Stainton really did done Mark Dindal dirty when scrapping this early version I really love this version of the main character of Chicken Little as I find her quirky flawed personality a lot more interesting and relatable then the Chicken Little in the final version (though he is definitely one of the things I like the movie we got) as her paranoia of everything and her high maintenance personality honestly just speaks to me more than the final version and really just seems like the type of character that’s right up my alley and a lot like the type of characters I would usually write, I also really love the father in this version as despite being clearly very flawed in his parental abilities you can tell in this that he’s trying his best to help take care of his special child and their relationship is just really sweet and wholesome and is easily way better then the in the version we got who was just neglectful and ashamed of if his special child, I also like how this version actually has an alive mother which honestly helps add more to the down to earth relatability to this family Now I don’t hate the final version of Chicken Little as much as everyone else does but when you compare that movie to the type of movie we could have gotten it’s a little upsetting and really does sting a little bit seeing how really incredible this original version was and how much potential for an even better movie was completely lost by corporate meddling, and it’s very clear with this early version along with a recent article that director Mark Dindal had far more love and more passion put into this version than he did with the final draft, and I’ve heard that when Mark Dindal was developing this early version he took a lot of heavily inspiration from being a father with his own daughters which I feel just further adds to warm relatability of this version, though not to say that there was no love or passion put into the final draft of the film since I’m pretty sure there clearly was, but it’s very clear that the final draft was mostly the result of executive meddling and was a bunch of random ideas that kept being thrown against the wall until the Disney execs were satisfied with something, and I’ve heard a rumor somewhere that Mark Dindal himself looks back very fondly on this original version and wished he had it things his way with making this version, and it’s a real darn that this was never made as I feel like this early version could have been Mark Dindal’s magnum opus Though who knows maybe in the future we can have this original version be brought in someway, it be turned into an illustrated storybook, we could have everything involving the early development of this version and stitched together into one coherent narrative and released somewhere, or the original version can be just remade whether in 3D animation or better yet have it be remade in hand drawn animation (I know that will likely never happen but a guy can dream can’t he) and just say that that Holly Hunter’s Chicken Little is the cousin of Zach Braff’s Chicken Little and that Buck Cluck has twin brother or something named Chuck Cluck (which I heard is what they were originally gonna name him), I don’t know just give us this original version in some form somehow.
Wow.......they actually made Buck Cluck likable in this version. Yeah he's rough around the edges, but at the very least he shows that he cares for his kid. Where was THIS Buck Cluck when the final product came out?
I wish we had this Buck Cluck (or well Chuck). He isnt malicious or a narcissist like what we got. Sure he’s a bit of an asshole at times but he knows when he messed up
I gotta be honest. At first when I was a kid I actually liked this movie, but now as an adult I understand why many people criticize it so much. There's a lot of unfairly cruel things in the final movie, like Chicken Little being always bullied by all the people in his neighborhood and his father being always ashamed of him, no matter the situation, and most of the characters, outside of Chicken Little's friends, are completely selfish jerks. When in original ideas, some of the minor characters like the Turkey Mayor was supposed to be more friendly, at least with Buck (Chicken Little's dad), and Cloe (Chicken Little's mom) was supposed to be an adult who actually support and help Chicken Little with his/her problems, but for some unknown reason they literally killed the character, leaving Chicken Little with no adult support, and the aliens thematic wasn't necesarly a bad idea, but the horrible and cruel execution against Chicken Little in almost the entire movie, was one of the main reasons that this movie was criticize so much by the people in general, and it's a real shame, because Chicken Little had a good potential to be a good furry movie, before Zootopia.
"There's a lot of unfairly cruel things in the final movie, like Chicken Little being always bullied by all the people in his neighborhood and his father being always ashamed of him, no matter the situation, and most of the characters, outside of Chicken Little's friends, are completely selfish jerks." Welcome to the real world.
@@KingdomHeartsBrawler The real world doesn't have kids outed by their interest by both other kids and adulta alike. That might be just your sad experience and that honestky fine to say that, but let me tell you this, the real world isn't neither a good place nor a bad place, it is just IS a place.
@@hellonokay1925 "The real world doesn't have kids outed by their interest by both other kids and adulta alike." Yes it does. It's called being on the bottom of the social food chain. Happens to lots of people. People who don't conform or are "different" tend to be ostracized and humiliated by society.
As a fairy tale nerd, I can assure you this version of Chicken Little gets me. It's a combination of both the typical interpretation of her original fable character, i.e. a perpetually paranoid chicken that's prone to overreacting, with the less common interpretation of her having the mind of a very small child (thus that being the reason for why she thought the sky was falling in a similar way to how, for instance, a toddler thinks there are little men inside the radio). This Chicken Little also shows childlike behaviour, as she "translates" her teddy bear and likes hearing bedtime stories about sailing waffles. Considering the Chicken Little from the 2005 movie is 12-13 years old according to the producers, it could have been actually refreshing to have a main lead with behaviour like that.
Me too, she reminded me of my self, she also reminded me of Lilo and stitch or melody from the mermaid 2, so it hits harder when you're the nerd in the family.
This is so far removed from the final product, I wonder when the executive order came through to change everything for the worse. "Make it like Shrek." I'll bet they said that.
This is what we needed, the mother figure to keep Buck in check in case if he does something wrong with parenting and have Buck actually show that he is a good father.
Honestly, I love the idea of chicken little being a girl, cuz I could relate to her for being picked on by everyone and that wasn’t easy for me growing up before I learned to be a little more bold. This should’ve been done!
If this had been the version we got instead of the trainwreck Eisner slammed down our throats, I feel like it would've been a great surprise comeback from Disney.
Eisner turned down the original idea that the director (Mark Dindal) had (which was based around his daughters he has) because it was due to Disney and Michael chasing modern trends at the time and wanting to be Dreamworks so badly desperately. They thought traditional and yet complex storytelling wasn't gonna convince the audience or it'll be too deep for the audiences to relate to the characters since nowadays everyone has a weak stomach. Everyone would rather play things safe.
Probably just a placeholder voice recorded by one of the storyboard artists. This was before the film was finalized, and having the actual cast come in to read would mean having to pay them more.
instead of wasting time on live-action remakes that nobody asked for, disney should consider remaking chicken little with the original storyline. It'd be a massive improvement.
You know after seeing how perfect and interesting the deleted scram are and how they’re really well done, and buck ace actually got a character arc it always makes me wonder why would disney scrap this idea and Emotional moment
This is basically the opposite of the Toy Story Black Friday Reel. Where that movie was about to have Woody act like a jerk This version would've had buck become a little bit better as a character, both because the mother is alive to call him out for his actions. and he's direct with his child
Not only they fucked up by cancelling the movie that was supposed to come instead of Chicken Little, but they also fucked THIS movie by making it about aliens... Same happened to Toy Story 3 and probably many more.. what the fuck Disney? Is there a univere where all of these actually existed?? How can I go there??? Like, fr I got the chills by watching this, it feelt so real, it actually made me sad..
So chicken was actually going to be a girl, will have his mom and buck was going to be an actually good dad for once. Regardless of Chicken little's gender or whether his mom was dead or alive, Buck not apologizing and reassuring his child is what made me absolutely mad
This version looked so much better! If they did the genderswap but kept the story the same it'd be better. The way the mom and dad bounce off each other was a terrible thing to cut too, we both see they love her and are worried for her and they have different approaches to dealing with that.
Exactly. And sometimes you'd need to sacrifice money or sacrifice your worries of losing money. I mean who cares, as we end up getting a good story that everyone will love. Right?
Make a 2D remake of Chicken Little that is faithful to this early version, the world doesn't fucking need a live action Hunchback of Notre Dame or Little Mermaid.
feell like anyone with more than 2 working brain cells would. Its a amazing how bad companies making a living on making movies can destroy a movie. I'm actually not that sure i can think of other businesses that time and time again fuck up there own productos worse than any random person on the street would be able to do.
Oh wow. I'm not the biggest fan of the Chicken Little movie and I do think it's one of Disney's worst animated films. But bloody hell this would've been amazing to watch and learn from as a kid.
Why would Disney scrapped that idea, it's perfect buck will be a great character better then the final version of him, it will be a coming of age story how she learns to be confident and face her fears, if Disney reboot this, I watch it 😀
3:33 No lie, when the scene happened I legit thought that it just cut them reconciling. 3:43 But then, I saw that it was actually a photo she was holding and hearing her cry, really hits hard….
I'll admit when I first watched this I almost kinda cried. Looking back upon it, it seems like it would've tackled onto some mental issues. Correct me if I'm wrong though.
This may sound crazy, but I would love to see Disney reboot this movie,I know the original film is not perfect, but I would love to see Disney do another version on this film, make the story more structured and have the characters be a lot more developed, though this is all just my thoughts and opinions, and I doubt Disney wont be doing anything chicken little related anytime soon.
Welp... this is up there with Disney’s Dinosaur in terms of original and amazing ideas scrapped and replaced. That said, I actually enjoyed both movies. A lot actually. Chicken Little somehow got me through a tough time in my life, and I can’t say how exactly. So I have a sentimental reason. But this story really would have hit me home. This animatic was amazing on its own.
I assume that's the voice of Holly Hunter as the character Also, this scene is just powerful, simply powerful and with emotion. Already connecting myself with the character here
I don’t know about you guys but this version of the movie would probably have been really good and overall just a sweet heartwarming movie too bad we will never get to see it
For as much as I love the final product for the mess that it is, I will say maybe it could have benefited from a few more minutes to state that Chicken Little has an overactive imagination thus making it understandable as to why Buck has a hard time believing in his son.
