That's what makes Buck Cluck arguably the worst character in Disney history! At least with the likes of Hans, his character arc in the beginning of Frozen was at least coherent and had sensible goals until the inevitable twist villain debacle. Buck Cluck is literally the villain to Chicken Little all the way to the end of the film. From enabling public humiliation, verbal abuse, to not even listening to his own son, I can't even think of one good thing he has done in the film.

He DID protect his son. The crowd was ready to eat him alive, and since there was no proof to Chicken Little's claims, the best thing he could do at that time was defuse the situation. Chicken Little caused a MASSIVE riot with tons of property damage. The fact that all he gets from that is some mean words and a bad reputation is a testament to how much Buck Cluck protected him. Buck Cluck was the high school star jock of the worst town full of insipid, shallow, spiteful characters. Buck Cluck was most certainty the Foxy Loxy of his heyday. His broken relationship with Chicken Little gets brushed under the rug so fast: Chicken Little calls his dad out and Buck Cluck gives some, "I'm sorry YOU felt that way, because I love you!" And arguably the only reason he started listening to Chicken Little is not because he had faith in his son...but because the aliens were no longer hiding so all he had to do was trust his own eyes instead. The baseball thing really highlighted: Buck wasn't happy that Chicken Little expressed an interest in a sport (like him). Because he viewed Chicken Little as nothing but a loser, rather than getting to share the joy of the sport with his son, Buck just cringes because the only value is WINNING. Buck only cares for Chicken Little again when he WINS his team the championship game. The movie is SO fucked. The baseball announcer said it best: it's not about the love of the game or good sportsmanship: it's about WINNING and RUBBING it in the loser's face. That's the kind of people Buck Cluck value, and that's the kind of person Buck Cluck is. Screw that whole town. What a terrible father.

It's funny how many "professional" writers miss the simple fact that an asshole character still needs to be written in a way that they are endearing to the audience. All of TV's greatest assholes, from Archie Bunker to Rick Sanchez, all make you care about them. They need to be designed in a way where when they saunter onto screen or open their mouth, you want to see what's going to happen. Make them funny, give them noble qualities, make them secretly care about their loved ones, hell even make it where you want to see them suffer or get put in their place. Buck Cluck is not funny, he has no noble qualities, he doesn't love his son in any meaningful way, he never says or does anything insightful. He just sucks; you just don't care about him.

I feel like this whole movie was a missed opportunity. What if Disney really highlighted the fact that the mom died (and make it very recent to the plot) and have the grieving process be part of the dysfunctional relationship between Chicken Little and his dad? What if Buck was struggling with depression and keeping his job and Chicken Little was struggling with the loss and just wanted attention and security from his surviving parent? And the whole alien thing was Chicken Little's way of making sense of it all through an interest with space and he was bullied because of that and the alien/sky was falling was seen as him 'making up an imaginary friend' out of his grief and wasn't believed by his dad when he tried to tell him about it? Kind of a mix of Lilo and Stitch and E.T, but we rarely see what parental loss and grief actually look like from a Disney movie.

That older Disney's Little Chicken political satirical short was much better than this movie. It was really surprisingly dark and tragic where everyone dies and eaten by the very manipulative fox in the end. Even if it has political overtones originally meant to be a WW2 war cartoon, it was one of the most accurate Disney adaption to one of the original versions of a fairy tale.

I couldn't finish Chicken Little because Buck Cluck was such a dead-ringer for my abusive mother, only she was a stage parent as opposed to a sportsball dad. Only time my mom would ever come to my shows is if I was a lead, and then if I didn't get a lead in the following show, she'd say it was because I was 'showing my age' and 'washed up.' ...this was when I was 17, by the way. She died a while back and I actually asked the funeral home if it was okay that I poop in her urn. I like to think Chicken Little 2 would've involved Little lining his birdcage his his dad's feathers.

If it wasn't football he utterly ignored me. I didn't like football but decided to humor him by trying out for three days, then stopped because I didn't want to play football. He never talked to me again. Everything was through my mom and sister, and they heavily edited everything he said to remove the hate. That was one reason my mom tossed him. And then he got angry I shrugged and moved on, unhurt by his emotional abuse. We even wound up throwing blows because of him. He lost.

The part that absolutely ruins Buck's character for me is after the spaceship disappears. Chicken Little is there, pleading his father for any kind of support as the entire town turns on him again. Actually begging him. What does Buck do? He caves into peer pressure and sides with the mob. Instead of defending his son and berating the townsfolk for ganging up on a child, he turns on him. I don't blame Chicken Little at all for not showing Buck the piece of sky. He's probably terrified of losing the love and support that he hasn't gotten for at least the past year. Though it's implied that it's been since his mom died. And he's absolutely justified because of what happens right after. In the moment that he needed his dad the most, he instead gets put down. Buck Cluck is easily the worst father that isn't outright villainous in media. Which kinda makes it worse because we're supposed to like and forgive him by the end of the film.

Out of all the Disney characters, Buck Cluck is the one I hate the most, because my own father was just like him. Like Buck Cluck, my father was neglectful, leaving me constantly to face bullies and condescension from my elders, dad never encouraged me to do better, and dad was never there to consul me from those experiences. So in a macabre sort of way, I was Chicken Little, the film took an experience not unique to me, and made it into a comedy, there was nothing funny about being berated by a community, while your most trusted guardian stands by and does nothing. But unlike Chicken Little, I at least had a mother, later a stepfather who was supportive and resolute, everything my natural father was not, so when people gaslight me into forgiving my natural father for his neglect, I reject their plees, because dad had never apologised nor made amends with me, so when Chicken Little stood up to his father at one moment in the film, I felt that, it is one of the best moments in the film, and it's a real shame the writers and producers didn't have more scenes like that.

With Triton and Marlin, I'm surprised Disney can't do a parent against their child well in this movie. Marlin doubted his son's abilities. He didn't believe he could swim well, he held him back, and he told Nemo "you think you can do these things but you just can't!" But we know it was out of worry and love. And PTSD. Poor Marlin had a lot to get through, because losing his whole family was hard on him as it would be on anyone. He was scared of something like that happening again, and he was especially protective of the only son he had left. His parenting was bad but we know he had good intentions. And unlike Buck Cluck, Marlin doesn't apologize at the last second. He earns forgiveness from Nemo by facing his fears to go all the way to Sydney and get back his son. Nemo doesn't even need to hear the "I'm sorry;" he knew from gossip, and seeing Marlin, that his dad had come all the way to find him. His love and dedication was more powerful than his fear. Marlin is a bad parent who has to overcome that. He lets his selflessness, love for his son, and protectiveness push him forward to face his fears, and keep pushing even when he's terrified. Because in the end he's more scared to lose his son than he is to be hurt himself. Along the journey, he has to learn a lot, and he learns to give Nemo a healthy amount of space. Buck Cluck says he's sorry, makes meta jokes, and we never get to see him doing better. And in the end what makes Buck Cluck doesn't have the same payoff as Marlin because, unlike Marlin, he didn't have to learn relevant lessons that would have led to him developing to care less about himself. Marlin's motivation for his mistakes is fear of losing his son, and ultimately he has to back off if he wants to avoid losing Nemo again. Buck Cluck is motivated by selfishness for his image.

Marlin is not a bad parent.
@redtailarts101
@redtailarts101 5 месяцев назад
@@myzellpatty8604 Did you even watch Finding Nemo? Marlin started the film as a bad parent. The whole point of the movie was him becoming a better parent. He had to learn how to back off from Nemo because his parenting was suffocating him. Helicopter parents ARE bad parents, even if they love you and even if they have a very good reason to be so protective. It's a parenting style that destroys the relationship between the parent(s) and kid(s) and it drives children towards danger. Finding Nemo explored that toxic parenting style in a way that made it understandable, yet still showed that it was bad. Buck Cluck wants to be Marlin. He wants to be the bad dad who's sympathetic and learns. But he fails where Marlin succeeds. His movie doesn't have him properly learn jack shit, his motivation is selfishness, not concern for his son, and we don't really get to see any change because even if we got to see Buck being proud of his son, it would no longer be in the face of adversity. Marlin, we got to see trust his son even if it was a risk and he didn't know something bad wasn't gonna happen, and help. Marlin, we got to see letting Nemo have some freedom, and in turn Nemo having a better relationship with him. "Bad father" doesn't mean "bad person" or "doesn't love their child." Sure, Buck Cluck clearly doesn't love Chicken Little as much as he loves himself, so he IS a bad person, but Marlin does love Nemo a lot. Enough to cross his greatest fear, the ocean, just to find him again. It doesn't mean he wasn't a bad parent for giving Nemo no freedom and not teaching him how to handle anything for himself. Nemo would have ended up with very little independence, yet all the desire to put himself in danger, if Marlin hadn't learned how to let go just a bit.

@@redtailarts101 I have Watch Finding Nemo before like I watched for like million time from my childhood but no marlin doesn’t seem like a bad parent like Marlin has truma from the barracuda, so that’s reason Marlin is a good overprotective because he doesn’t want his son to eat eaten by Sharks & barracuda and captured by divers. Plus, marlin didn’t mean to take the way with nemo, Marlin was trying to do the right thing.
@redtailarts101
@redtailarts101 5 месяцев назад
@@myzellpatty8604 Then your media literacy sucks. Yes, Marlin has trauma, that doesn't mean he can't be a bad parent. He can have genuine reasons to think he has to do something but still have it be the wrong decision. That's what's great about his character with the film's message. It's for parents; the message is to not be a helicopter parent. Marlin is given a very good reason because if he wasn't, parents watching would justify to themselves being a helicopter parent because of whatever thing they're afraid of. Marlin has to be someone with his heart in the right place and a good reason to make him a protagonist that's making understandable mistakes, endear him to the audience and make him someone that can be related to or identified with. He's a way to show parents who turned the movie on for their kids that no matter what your reason is, you can't be so overprotective that your kids feel like they have no freedom. Need I remind you, it was Marlin's overprotectiveness that made Nemo get captured? He wouldn't have been driven to go up to the boat and smack it if it weren't for Marlin embarrassing him in front of everyone and trying to pull him out of school. It was Nemo's act of defiance, touching the boat, and it was that which led him to being captured. He wouldn't have gotten captured by the diver if he'd just gone out a little bit, or if he didn't at all (because he was hesitant to do so.) By the END of the film, Marlin is a good dad. Nemo feels more free and less smothered, and he has a good relationship with Marlin because of it. He let go of Nemo enough to make him not want to be defiant, and that made him safer. Nemo isn't going to go into the open ocean alone or not be safe within the anemone in case of a barracuda. He just wants to be able to go to school and be able to do some things without his dad being overbearing. That's more healthy. Bad parents aren't determined by intentions or reasons. Bad parents are determined by the effects on the child. Marlin's parenting was having bad effects on Nemo, who was completely helpless at first in the tank, because he had no individuality, but had also gotten himself taken by putting himself in danger (which again he was driven to do because of Marlin.) He was well intentioned but Marlin's parenting was so, so destructive. That's why he ends the movie being better. Because that's his ARC. That's the point of the movie, it's the main message.

Eh I can sort of sympathise with Triton _to a degree_ because a) due to a deleted scene, Ariel is never shown to have made an effort with any mermen under the sea before falling for Prince Eric but also b) *she’s SIXTEEN!* So many of the classic Disney movies about “true love” trip when they get to the hurdle that is “age of consent”. Hell, Snow White was FOURTEEN! Also-also if we take The Little Mermaid III: Ariel’s Beginning into account then Triton, who was still grieving his wife’s death caused by human greed and his wife’s own foolishness (she died trying to save a music box, not one of their daughters, a fecking music box), for his youngest to suddenly essentially announce “I love one of the creatures that killed my mother” … now I’m older I honestly can’t blame Triton for being pissed at his daughter’s reckless behaviour

This character is definitely my least favorite in all Disney fiction. Even when I watched and liked Chicken Little as a kid, I recall hating Buck Cluck for a variety of reasons. He enables/contributes to his son's public humiliation, he doesn't even listen to him, and one of the plot points and reasonings towards his friction between him seemingly resulted in Buck Cluck blaming Chicken Little for his late wife's death. It's almost like Buck Cluck was treating Chicken Little like a grown up who was actively working against (until the baseball game scene) him instead of his own spawn.

I'm surprised that you never brought this up, but I think it should be noted how different the original Chicken Little was. Director Mark Dindal (Cats Don't Dance, The Emperor's New Groove) had originally meant to make a more heartwarming adaptation of the story where instead of aliens, it was wolves in disguised as prey critters, similar to the original story. The biggest difference however was how Buck was portrayed. While still being a jerk to Chicken Little (who was originally a girl), you do empathize for why he acts the way he does. But this original story knew that he was wrong, and has him apologize. But apparently, Disney was having their thumbs up their behinds, and decided to ignore these nice ideas and instead put in their own agenda. Watching this deleted scene shows how much they screwed up. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Gf3gyzMnR1o.html

We also never see Buck going to or talking about a job or work. I even looked it up and the only occupation listed is that he's Chicken Little's father. What if the reason he doesn't stop it, is because he's making money from the people making fun of Chicken Little using his son's likeness!? Here’s my Deviled Egg Advocate point: Buck Cluck isn’t actually a bad character, since everyone else in this soulless movie is as well. He had potential to be a good character, as a bad parent. ☝️ Here’s a revamp of Buck Cluck given proper characterization: Buck Cluck was an awkward, easily embarrassed parent, because his wife died and the whole town knew him as the Little League Champ back in the day, but along his physique, a lot of things have changed. Everyone in town knows him as Chicken Little’s father, and his son has a history of making up stories. Unbeknownst to Buck, this isn’t because Chicken Little wants attention. Many imaginative kids just do that sometimes, but Buck doesn’t know any better. He does know though, that Chicken Little’s Mom also loved to tell stories, especially to Chicken Little when he was just a hatchling. This would explain Buck’s behavior, why the town doesn’t always believe in what Chicken Little has to say, and why the sky falling story would be extra hard to believe. It’s not that hard to figure this stuff out Disney. Smh

There is another empty relationship between father and son: the one between Samson and Ryan from "The Wild": not only they share very few scenes, but the relationship is cut bone and at the beginning we only see the dad attempting to be a caring father while also lying to his son and Ryan complaining and sulking because he feels he cannot live up to his dad due to the lies told to him. The breaking point is when Samson scolds Ryan, accusing him to make a herd of gazelles going stampede and endangering everyone, despite the gazelles were very few and were just clumsily slipping around on the ice in an empty space and not happy, he hits Ryan in his most vulnerable spot. Ok, he later launches himself to rescue him, but father and son never really reconcile in a satisfying manner: Samson admits he was a liar but he's never really reprimanded for it and Ryan never really apologise for escaping (he does, but not to his dad). They make up at the end because they both found "their roar"

What made Chicken Little and it's character of Buck worse is that he was originally gonna be likeable, and help his son(daughter) cure his/her anxiety at a summer camp, which turned out to be handled by werewolves disguising themselves as the sheep counselors so they can eat the campers. And it's up to Chicken Little(was supposed to be female, which explains her interest in tomboyish activities like baseball, and voiced by Holly Hunter, known for her role as Elastigirl in The Incredibles) to face her fears and assist the friends she made(who also appear in this movie) to on escaping Camp Yes-You-Can. However Michael Eisner, David Stainton, and other corrupt Disney executives at the time fumbled Mark Dindal's vision(not helping that he and the team behind Kingdom of the Sun reworked the movie from scratch into the comedic classic The Emperor's New Groove in less than a year until it's scheduled theatrical release of December 2000, a few years prior) due to suffering the pill of embarassment from DreamWorks' Shrek which was popular at the time, and gave them the big green middle finger. They wanted to cash in on the fractured fairytale trend their rival studio's titular ogre started, so they forced Dindal to make Chicken Little this terrible. If he wanted to retain the film's original concept, it would've been canceled(as Dindal confirmed during an interview, also made ironic since My Peoples got replaced by Chicken Little, and was never made nor finished). The poor guy was helpless and had to comply towards Eisner and the higher-ups' intentions, and it wasn't his fault at all. The real blame goes to Michael Eisner(the man who first ruined Disney's reputation despite Jeffrey Katzenberg being no better), David Stainton, and the executives for fucking up a promising yet dark spin on the original story of Chicken Little, thus becoming a mean-spirited and unfunny mess with aliens in the mix. They never learned from that fact since, especially the multiple CEOs Disney went through over the years. Also, quick trivia: Chicken Little was featured as an overpowered Summon in the video game Kingdom Hearts II just to promote the movie in Japan. He, alongside the cheesable spell Reflect(and it's upgraded versions Reflecta and Reflectga) are quite useful for KH2 speedruns, including Sora's Final Form, and the keyblades you earn after completing Halloween Town/Christmas Town, The World That Never Was(regarding the boss fight against Roxas), and Atlantica(the Mysterious Abyss playing a major part to easily beating Data Axel via the Garden of Assemblage within 1 1/2 minutes or less).

Even as a kid I remember being so mad when Buck sad he didn’t believe him (after the baseball match) CL went through so much crap to prove himself and get the stench of his accident to go away, just to have all his hard work completely destroyed and unraveled. I can’t even root for his friends because they’re basically hated by the entire town too for absolutely no reason, considering the teachers making fun of them. If the movie had used the mom’s death as a big plot point, it could’ve easily worked so much better to show why Buck acted that way, despite he’s still wrong. He’s struggling over the death of his wife and maybe is worried about losing his job or house, and maybe Chicken Little is still a girl that is afraid of basically everything, and Buck doesn’t know how to cope with her insecurities. At least in the deleted scenes it showed Buck did love Chicken Little, just didn’t know how to show it and does apologize for saying awful things about her. Ironically enough, the Gameboy game actually did show where Buck defended him from nosey reporters, probably as “damage control” for how awful he was in the movie. Okay, I want to play devil's advocate because I think It'd make for an interesting discussion. Despite Buck Cluck being a horrible father, is he a horrible character? like as written. Because having a horrible father isn't unrealistic or bad for story telling. Bad Parents do exist especially parents with their own trauma, as seen from Buck's wife dying and having no idea what Buck's childhood was like you really can't tell if he comes an emotionally abusive household similarly to how he acts to chicken little. Buck was always considered a "winner" by the town and with his baseball reputation which maybe a dismissive father like Buck's dad would hold value In. This kind of thing can be reflected on Little, and a reason to why Buck could be so dismissive and down right evil to his seemingly "pathetic" son. The fact he doesn't seem to really be punished by his actions by the end of the movie and all Little gets is an apology can be true to life as well as even having a father like that apologize to you at all for the trauma they have giving to you is rare even in the real world. As a child who loves their father despite the trauma given to them would jump at an opportunity to love their father again especially someone so young like Chicken Little. It's been awhile since I've seen the movie so do let me know if there are points that can be contradicted. But as far as the video goes it mostly bashes him for being a horrible person and father rather than being horribly designed.
@odindarkll3706
@odindarkll3706 5 месяцев назад
That's just it. Buck Cluck is both a horrible father and character for a plethora of reasons. Any sane dad wouldn't believe their spawn in concepts such as a piece of the sky falling on somebody, yet he didn't even try to defend or pull Chicken Little aside amongst the townspeople publicly chastising him. Another awful scene plays out when Buck Cluck turns down Chicken Little's enthusiasm about joining his school's baseball team (the same team Buck Cluck used to play in no less) trying desperately to win his dad's acknowledgement. Lastly, Buck Cluck not only pulls an 180 during the climax in the film due to plot demands, it doesn't redeem nor punish him in a that's believable. Normally, a purposely horrible character treating others like crap usually receive consequences that would either humble them or help them see the errors of their ways, but not Buck Cluck. The narrative even goes as far as to depict him as being the right the entire film. There's no villain arc to be had without the villain losing and getting punishment for their wrong doings here.

Mandrake didn't allow anyone to speak badly of his son, even when it was deserved. He's an underrated villain, imo. It seems like Buck may have been deliberately written in a mean-spirited manner, given that they poke fun at his behavior. No, writers, meta "humor" isn't a substitute for character development and being obnoxious or mean isn't automatically funny.

Yes, there is a scene where it shows that he is a struggling single parent, but I don't believe he genuinely feels that way inside, when he is being such an asshole in all the other scenes. Yes he apologises at the end, but it comes off as very insincere as if the filmmakers are like "Hey the movie is about to end, better make this guy suddenly likeable before the credits roll", which is very bad character writing.

This movie, Chicken Little, reeks of Disney trying to be hip and cool by making a film that was similar to Dreamworks' Shrek films and Pixar's megahits that were popular at the time, but without understanding why those films worked in the first place. Dreamworks' Shrek worked because it wasn't Disney, it was anti-Disney. Pixar was in a league of their own outclassing Disney in a new craft of 3D animation at the time. Disney trying to not be Disney has never gone well. When you try to be something else that you are not, you will inevitably lose your own identity. Disney wanting to be Pixar and Dreamworks by making 3D animated movies instead of 2D animated movies that were their strong suit really sucked the identity out of them as a Studio. Heck, I'd argue most of their 3D movies are not that great other than Tangled, Moana, Zootopia, and Encanto (which I honestly think were just lucky flukes because they had the right people with the right talent and passion working on them). Frozen is mid at best, and I'm tired of pretending it isn't. That pretty much sums up the majority of Disney's 3D movie catalog, mid at best. They can't do Pixar and they can't do Dreamworks. So what are they if they can't mimic the one thing they mimic? They are nothing. Because they cast away what made them unique in the western animation industry. They have talent and legacy, but no soul with their talent anymore (especially in recent years). They have even brought everything they own down with them: First Pixar, then Star Wars, and now Marvel (which I'd argue wasn't that good anyway aside from maybe the recent Spiderman movies). Disney is now a cancer, they destroy everything they touch and they reap the financial benefits from everything. Glad to see that their films are now suffering because frankly, they deserve a wake up call.

I completely agree! Disney has just been making all the wrong choices recently. They don't care anymore, and its about time we stop supporting half baked efforts so that they do.

I'm going to be honest, I don't hate Buck Cluck as much as everybody else does. 1. First of all people say that he's a bad father for not believing his son immediately that the sky is falling. Let's forget the plot of the movie for a moment. If your child would tell you that the sky is falling, would you believe them? Of course not! This movie spits in the face of the original tale and it's moral. Instead of being skeptical and not believing everything you hear the movie says that everybody should've believed that the SKY WAS FALLING! without any evidence. 2. People also blame him for making his son a laughingstock by telling everybody that Little was hit on the head by an acorn. Buck did the best he could to defuse the situation. Instead of letting people think that Little lied, he made it sound like an accident. Besides, there was no proof of what happened. Little would still be bullied regardless. 3. How could he predict that everybody, including adults like the mayor, would make such a big deal out of it? I'm more angry at the town's people for destroying their own town because they just started panicking, they didn't even know what the emergency was! 4. People are also angry at Buck for discouraging his son from playing baseball because he's so small he might die while playing and that he shouldn't do crazy stunts that might get him unwanted attention. Buck isn't the beast dad but the town's people are terrible!

He could least stand up for him to show that he cares about him but no he nothing but a narcissist and a coward for a parent. That the reason why buck cluck is one of worst disney characters to even exised and why he worse than the town in this damn movie.

I agree that the townspeople are arguably worse, but the least Buck could've done was stand up for him. He didn't have to believe him, just tell them to stop harassing a child.

As someone who has worse experiences than this i can say cluck apologizing and FIGHTING THE ALIENS THAT TRUES GANGING UP ON HIS SON then admitting hes bad parent is actually a little more redeeming than what actual neglctful dads can do. You even ignored him fighting the aliens

but you know, I loved this movie when I was a kid because I was an unpopular kid who sucked at any sports in school like Chicken Little, and I felt like my parents, especially my dad, didn't understand that pain, even a bit. He was also an athlete type back then and expected me to do the same thing. Not every parent is a supportive, understanding, loving parent who always believes in their child. I don't know, I don't hate Chicken Little or Buck Cluck, although I know this is a super unpopular opinion.

Interesting. My childhood was a lot like yours except my father was much more abusive. That being said, I hated Buck Cluck even as a kid and I recall watching Chicken Little many times because I liked it so much.

Okay,the problem is that the movie doesn't portray his actions as negative.Instead of him either being treated as a bad parent with that being tied into the story's conflict or him having a genuine redemption where he realized how terrible he's been,instead the movie tries forcing the audience to see him as a likable character at the last minute with a scene that was so half-assed it wasn't believable .

Just the fact that an ENTIRE TOWN OF ADULTS bullies a child and the dad lets them. He doesn't even have to believe his son! He just has to call out everyone for picking on a kid!

As much as I love the 2000's and older Disney and non-Disney movies, "Chicken Little'' always felt like torture to me. Mainly because of too many jerky characters who have no right to pick up on the sympathetic hero and his group of friends. The only plus this movie had was maybe music and nothing else.

I think what sets Buck Cluck apart from other "bad father" characters is that he's poorly-written and is meant to be a good, if relatable, father. Those bad fathers are written to be bad, so we know we're meant to hate them. Buck ain't that character, which makes him all the more infuriating. Remember, there's a difference between writing a bad father character and writing a father character badly.

The worst thing to me about Buck is that his type of person actually exists. He is a perfect Narcissist who only ends up “apologizing” when it’s good for his reputation to do so.

Oh my gosh, I almost forgot this movie existed but it’s hilarious to hear that Buck Cluck was a bad Dad because my actual Dad made me watch this film with me and he’s exactly the same 😂 I guess the egg doesn’t fall far from the coop with Chicken Dad and my absentee Dad

Somehow I sat through that movie a lot as a kid. It might've been because I liked Ace and his friends and when he finally stood up for himself. But even then, I felt nothing for Buck's 'apology.' Mind you, I'm a very sensitive person, and even more so as a kid. But I didn’t feel anything then. The only difference now that I'm older is that I understand why.

Honestly it would have been more interesting if the movie was about chicken little coming to terms with the fact his town and family are terrible people, and he should stop trying to live up tho their ideals. Maybe have buck be what chicken little would have become if he kept trying to please the town

Why does the original idea better than the finish project? The original one of Chicken Little, the father actually loves his child just exhausted and worried. The original idea of Wish, the star was meant to be a Star Boy and the Royal couple be evil.

I mean, it could have been that Buck's baseball career ended when Little was born and he settled down with the town was about to become more rich on the revenue Buck would generate from being a Star Ball player. The whole reason they hate Little is cuz Buck cost their (ironically well off) town a "fortune". Mabe have the only reason he stays in town is to stay close to the mom? He wants Little to lie low and not give anyone a reason to hate him as after the sky falling incident, the town is actively trying to forclose on the house and force Little into the foster care system? Mabe Little's done this sky falling thing a lot and the town actively does a lotta damage to itself to force Buck to monetarily pay for it, trying to bankrupt and rob him outta spite? Buck isn't worried about reputation, but the legal bs he's gonna need to do after the fact. Little's trying to make him proud and fails, and that's the reason his dad wants his son to lay low? Hell, characterize him as a really tired Dad trying his best but is fed up with having to clean up his son's messes rather than somehow being the worst father in animation? Idk, i'm trying to weave a shirt with overcooked spagetti here.

Considering Chicken Little was Disney's own backlash to Dreamworks (2005) after Shrek mocked Disney - including modelling Lord Farquaad after then-Disney CEO Micheal Eisner (2003), it says a lot about Disney itself at the time.
