This is a video of Chicken Little meeting her 21 day old baby lutino peach faced lovebird (Agapornis) sibling. Chicken has been such a great older sister to many other babies and in this video she once again shows her gentle and protective nature. Chicken gets so excited when meeting new siblings and here she is singing and preening the baby and also tells me "yes" by bobbing her head when I ask her if she is being protective. This is a cute video and we will be posting more baby lovebird growth progress videos, so stay tuned!

She's so vocal! I tried teaching my peach-faced to say 'Chicken' too and she's caught on. She says it as 'Chikoo' though.

That's awesome! Lovebirds don't usually learn a lot of words. My 5yo Peachy doesn't even know a lot of Lovebird language. His name is Herbie and he wishes to start a cult about himself.

Yep, she is SO good with all the new babies and even gets a little protective of them. This is one of my new fav videos of her. I just love how she is so happy she's singing and whistling to the baby. I also love how she answers me when I ask if she's being protective of the baby by bobbing her head. She also learned to answer me like that when I point at her and ask "are you the Chicken?", she will bob her head to say "yes". It's so cute, I'll have to video that soon.

I just love listening to the way you speak to your lovies! There is so much love & kindness in your voice, you can really hear it! My first pet as a child was a Peach Faced LB, he was such a dark emerald green & I would always collect those rainbow tail feathers when they fell out! Watching your vid has brought back so many wonderful memories of him & of us together! We were inseparable...except when I was in school! Thank you so much!

They can though, get carried away when preening so I always keep an eye on her with new babies. Depending on the bird I've found many lovies easy to tame with a little patience. Our mother bird, Houdini was caught flying out in the neighborhood and was terrified of us at first but within a few months would fly and sit on our shoulders and give us kisses too. We never thought she could be tamed but being gentle and patient she learned to trust and be comfortable around us.

Hello, how did you train your birds to stay calm out of the cage? My birds aren't like this, they FREAK out and fly away when they see something strange ( camera,phone, or anything else..) I just want to teach them to stay calm out of the cage without flying away. Can you please help ? Did you cut their goests ?

Lutino lovebirds are my favorite!!!! So bright in the sun!!!! I have one as well. She learned all these weird whistles when she lived with cockatiels. I have a few videos of her on my channel.

Lol...accidently erased my comment. Well I have had lovebirds (I didn't Think that they were difficult to tame, even though I had several) and they flew around the house and delighted everyone with their sweet nature. I had the Fischers variety. They sure can teach us humans something about love!

Oh, that is SO cute! Do you have a video of her? I would love to see that! There is another lovebird on RU-vid named "Chicken" that also says her name too, it is so funny to hear it and play it for my Chicken bird. She loves it. I think it must be easy for lovies to say "Chicken" because a few of our babies have also learned to say it. I think it's a lovebird thing! ;)

Forgot to mention, not only do several of our lovies say "Chicken", they also say it in different ways and tones. Some say it different ways, like your lovie does. I've heard "Chickee", "Chick", "Chick-eeeen", but none have said "Chickoo" so you've got an original there! Let us know if you post a talking Chicken lovebird video! ;)

Mimi L'adolescente am 12 and all i did was basiclly read to my lovebirds and then little by little my birds started trusting me and thats how my birds got my trust :)

I get all my birds just close to being weaned. But, I did purchase an older bird once and she was very difficult so I gave her to a woman who I knew was great with birds. What she did was cut the flight feather. Do not do this yourself unless you are confident in what you are doing, otherwise have vet do it once and watch and video it. Anyway, the bird could no longer fly but could protect itself from a fall because it had enough feathers for that. From there the bird could not fly from her and she was able to easily tame it.

If you have two birds, Clip the bigger birds wings and leave the smaller one with wings, Once the larger bird comes out of the cage, The smaller one will follow, Then they will get used to it so then the wings will grow back and it wont decide to fly away. Thats what happened for mine. (Best pair: Lovebird and budgerigar) (That was my breeds.)

Yes a temporary training clip can work wonders when taming small flighty birds like lovebirds. Some people say never clip but I often do a training clip on birds that need that extra bit of training time.

Omy that bird was pecking the others eye. They are highly territorial. I'd have kept them in seperate rooms till the one could defend itself.

Hi! I was wondering where you got your peach-faced lovebirds from? I have been wanting one, but I can't seem to find a good breeder that sells them! I would also like a pair (male and female) that was raised together and hand fed. It would also be nice if they were social and liked human hands! I know it seems like a lot, but I would really like to get my hands on some!

Sorry I missed your comment. Did you end up finding some? We got one from a pet store and another rescued from free flying in our neighborhood. Those two bonded and had the babies in our videos 💕

Kishion Matthew Thanks for your comment. All our birds have different personalities, some are more aggressive than others. I think we just spend a lot of time hand raising them so they trust us. Chicken can get territorial around babies and her cage and will bite. The sweetest bird I've raised is Big-Bird and I have videos of her letting me pick up eggs in her nest, which as you know is rare.

Touta Mimi Well when she was really young i would hold her and feed he by hand, i would also platy with her daily. but after she laid her first egg she changed. she has never had her wings clipped. My budgies on the other hand react to me just as you described.

Yep, glad you noticed that. Chicken has learned to nod her head to say "yes" now when we point at her and ask her "are you the Chicken". I think I posted a video of that too. Chicken is such a smart bird. :)

Sorry we missed this comment. Yes Chicken is female. Female lovebirds can be nippy. I try to do positive association and redirect on biters. Offering treats like millet is good association. Also making a short high pitched sound when they bite can let them know in bird language “that hurts” and can also be a good redirect tool.

Mine just stick to me and never go close to his sibling, i am afraid he might attack them though he does't bite anyone and is very tame but when facing another sibling i am not too sure. Any way to tame it to be more friendly towards his cousins?

Sorry I missed your comment. Did they get along? Some lovebirds esp two females can fight. But if you introduce slowly you can usually get them to bond.

By a dna test or behavior, or egg laying.

One that lays eggs is female. In this video she says it is probably a girl this is a total guess, no way of telling the gender especially at that age apart from DNA testing.
