Actually, "An Extremely Goofy Movie" has become a cult film of sorts amongst cinephiles like me, being cited as "The Godfather 2 of Direct to DVD Disney sequels". It's A LOT OF FUN!

Say what you will, but this game planted the seeds of interest in skateboarding for me when I was six years old. After a short time, I began collecting the Tony Hawk games, which lead to me actually going to Target and getting my first board.

That movie was a sequel to “A Goofy Movie” which did very well and is classic. Max was in that and was also in the Goof Troop tv show (believe it was called) and he was a skateboarder in all that stuff I think. So it is possible it was meant to be a tie-in for the Goofy movie sequel, but could easily be its own thing since he was a skater character

A commercial came right after "Well gorsh why don't you duck under those big metal poles, uyugh!" and I the suspense killed me.

This game was actually pretty great as a kid, played it all the time. I didn't have trouble with the controls like you are saying, but I used the keyboard not a 360 controller.

The soundtrack was pretty good though; sort of a college-punk-rock sound done by Jack Wall of all people

At least here in Denmark the movie was popular, and it also had a TV show, that every kid watched Friday at 18.00, so maybe somewhere it was a big franchise? I'm 34, so this is many many years ago 🤯 But I remember! And talking to my wife, born and raised in Argentina, she remembered this movie very well

If you want a game to play, play a computer game i used to play called Tech Deck Bare Knuckle grind. Theres a few versions. Each version has 2 different characters on 1 level. It's fun!

Weird. This is the very first time I’m hearing of any negativity regarding An Extremely Goofy Movie. I and everybody else in my general age range fucking loved it. If you grew up around the X-Games and Tony Hawk’s first 900, this movie was incredible. And people still LOVE the soundtrack as well. Tevin Campbell killed it, and he actually performed some of the hits live, in concert, very recently to immense praise. People were stoked, especially girls/young women around my age.

As a kid I couldn't get a PlayStation or anything so the demo of this game was one of my favorite things to play as it was my only option for a skateboard game.

You didn't mention the special tricks which required the weirdest button combination possible. The highest score special was a FS 720, but that one wasn't even listed and you had to figure the combination out yourself or look it up. I would've loved it if you also included some footage of Goofy, because his way of doing tricks was ridiculous. When doing a darkslide with Goofy, he would actually close his eyes. Where Max actually spins when doing the special 540 or 720, Goofy actually makes cartwheels on his board while in the air, where 360 degrees is one full cartwheel. If you do a 540, which is 1.5 cartwheel, he would even land in a handstand, which looked so cringy.

I recommend Go Go Hypergrind if you want something like this but far better

This was my first skateboarding video game and I blame it for putting me off from the genre for like 15 years

I had this game in my childhood and, like most kids, I wasn't very demanding. I recently looked up some gameplay of this game for no real reason and my first thought was "why the level design is so bad? what's the point in skateboarding around featureless streets and just collecting coins? why not do it on foot?". It's like the devs tried to scum on THPS' popularity not understanding the core of skateboarding at all. You can skateboard on a featureless plaza, but what's the point of it? Do what this dude said. Don't pick it up, *especially* if you played it as a kid. You will only ruin your childhood. Playing Super Mario Bros. is essentially about collecting coins, too, but it's a thousand times more entertaining. Plus, it looks better.

Never knew the movie failed, everyone I know loves that movie. Loved that movie when I was a kid. Know I would have wanted the game
