Dustborn was made to prioritize politics, DEI and their version of inclusivity, which is to exclude everyone who doesn't think like them. Meanwhile Wukong was made prioritizing fun and was made for anyone to enjoy. Each game has the audience it aimed for.
I know they're not smart but you'd think even they could realize making an entire game centered around "white men bad" wouldn't sell well when the majority of gamers are white men.
fair, but dont' cry when nobody played your game, and don't called people that don't play your game biggot, homophobic, racist and every thing in the world. because like you said. they simply not the audience that your aimed for.
@@solblackguydidn't the story ended in a cliffhanger? The showrunner (Harvey Weinstein's former personal assistant) could've ended it properly, but she was hoping for a 2nd season. Cancelled seems about right
Dustborn made about $2400 dollars from 81 all time players. Meanwhile, Black Myth: Wukong, with its 2.3 million peak players, has made over $130 million dollars ON ITS FIRST DAY! This really is the tale of two game ideologies: one is message first, the other is gameplay first. Guess which one will win?
Listen.... at $30 USD - and providing that NONE of the 81 peak players for Dustborn were the devs' friends or family using free game codes - this game pulled in a WHOPPING $2,430! That will EASILY pay for one month of rent in a tiny apartment for almost 2 people.
Don't believe the Polls for the election. It's all fakery there are real polls on X that have millions of participants and it's looking like 75 to 20, not close to 50 50. Register to vote let's get this country and our games back on track
That's NOT an exaggeration. The physical copies of Dustborn haven't even sold above 50 copies (that's PS5 and Xbox Series physical copies COMBINED and it hasn't even sold above 50 physical copies). Even Flintlock sold about 200 physical copies on A.P and that game is considered a huge bomb. I don't know about other sites and stores, but on A.P it hasn't sold above 50 copies.
They reduce their audience rather than increase it with the whole idea of people "seeing themselves in the game" rather than the idea of an "every man".
I genuinely cannot comprehend the requirement of having to see yourself in a character. I am an Asian man, in an Asian country; the idea of "seeing myself" never once entered my Asian brain when I was a little Asian boy watching Rocko's Modern Life, Kenan and Kel, and JLU. I never had any problem playing as Batman, Big Boss, or Lara Croft and only ever cared about smacking/shooting the other dudes on screen. Identity politics never mattered until the nepo babies of the US entertainment industry needed some way to pretend they aren't spoiled little wankers who are nothing beyond their privilege and connections.
1% would be an amazing success. Just some numbers: Steam has an estimated 130+ million active users currently. Sony sold 100 million PS4s and 50 million PS5s. The issue is not targeting the niche. Games do that all the time. From old-looking boomer shooters to turn based strategy games and hardcore dungeon crawlers, there are all kinds of genres that are not particularly mainstream but the size of the market makes it viable to succeed while targeting just a fraction of it. The is a marketing failure.
We have to add the RU-vidrs playing Dustborn to get footage to crap on it.. so the concurrent and total playerbase isn't even the entire Modern Audience

All 66 of them 😂 can you imagine these devs risking their livelihoods bending over backwards to make these games that are liters;y closing studios down it’s unreal. Makes me think what if they are being forced to make them by Blackrock
Add the tale of Kenzara which in some ways parallel with Wukong in its theme as both was based on foreign countries indigenous folklore. The difference is one involved SBI which ruined its reputation while the other openly rejects it and thus praised. The gameplay of Wukong is also superior apparently which helps it very much.
It was made with EU taxpayer money, in case you wonder why it was financed in the first place. What a waste of our taxes. This is the only thing that makes me care about this game, I payed for this.
@@seagrey75 Even better, 8 years of development for this gem. It's a visual novel with extra steps, not Cyberpunk. 17 Hours playtime, mostly boring dialogue. For 8 years they got their paychecks from our paychecks making this. Something promoting European culture was axed for this!
If I was a liberal feminist working for Kotaku, IGN, or Screen Rant, I’d be looking at the numbers for Dustborn compared to Black Myth Wukong and realize that I’m outnumbered 2.5 million to 60, and that I’m a complete and total loser who nobody likes and probably smells like cat piss Based on these numbers, for every one of them, there are 40 thousand of us. We are the gamers. We are the consumers. We’re not buying their crap. We’re not reading their articles and reviews. We will support anything they say is bad, and ignore everything they say is good We will troll them endlessly until they leave gaming We… are… DONE with these people and their ideology
@@malcovich_games I'd say it does even if it personally I am not a fan of gacha games. I'll tell you what doesn't count, that would be crypto ""games""
@@AlessandroRodriguez The world got its answer about the modern audience (though it's most likely the developers with their friends and family playing).
After 8 years they could have made a game like Wukong and made a lot of money. Instead they spent 8 years festering in resentment and greivances and came out the other side broke. Smart people learn from their own mistakes; wise people learn from othee people's mistakes. I'm guessing the developers of DB are neither smart nor wise.
I’m excited with Chinese games studios getting popularity on steam, we should get some great games. I don’t hate Chinese people, they can’t help who governs them, we are going through shite in the west with our terrible policies.
It shouldn't be said that you shouldn't hate the citizens of a country just because their government sucks. Chinese citizens are having a much harder time with their government than we are. I don't like Canada's government, not gonna stop me playing Dead by Daylight. I don't like my own government in the UK either, won't stop me playing GTA (yes, believe it or not, GTA is a British franchise).
Costs a minimum of 7 million, to remove at least 1 million potential paying customers, in order to appeal up to 100 potential customers. Wokeness is a violation of feduciary duty.
The physical copy of Dustborn on A.P has NOT sold above 50 copies. Seriously, it hasn't even sold more than 50 copies. How do I know this? When physical copies on A.P sell above 50 copies, they show how much the game has sold. If it does NOT sell above 50 then they don't show the numbers sold. There are NO numbers shown on that physical copy of Dustborn, meaning it hasn't sold above 50 copies (even Flintlock, which is considered a huge bomb, sold 200 physical copies on A.P, just to give you an idea on how non-existent the sales for Dustborn are on A.P).
A.P is Amazn Prime. I don't think any of the other websites that sell physical copies show sales numbers for the month, but they do. Sometimes they forget to update the numbers for the month, but they are typically very good showing the accurate numbers for a while (especially during the release day) before they reset for the next month. As of now, Dustborn has NOT sold above 50 physical copies, which is insanely bad for a newly released game being sold on both Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X. I've never seen a newly released game on major consoles sell LESS than 50 physical copies.
It's not on early access anymore, the official release date for the game was August 20th, 2024 (that includes the physical copy, it's release date was August 20th). The way it works on A.P is that they show pre-order numbers for the month before the official release date... unless those numbers are under 50. No preorder numbers are shown for the month, so it had LESS than 50 preorders. Now that the game has released, it's not showing units sold either, which means it has NOT sold above 50 copies. I don't know how much it has sold (maybe zero? five? ten?) but it's definitely LESS than 50 copies. For a newly released physical game, that's unheard of (again, even Flintlock sold 200 physical copies on A.P during it's debut month and that game is considered a massive bomb). Anyway, since the physical copies aren't selling, expect a 50% reduction of it's price by late next month or by late October. It will probably have a 75% reduction in price by January as they are struggling to clear the copies out of the warehouse.
Have you ever considered it's just bad marketing as in inefficient. Or maybe that the game just wasn't appealing. Yall keep bitching about the non existent WOKE business or whatever.
@@merlin9845 You are not a soldier nor comparable to one. You are just another person coping with their insecurities and superiority complex, by taking it out on other perceived groups.
Looking at a stream of Dustborn and...I am not sure why they didn't promote it to the Life is Strange audience. It's right up their alley. Hell, the only promotion this game got was hate videos signal boosting it.
Is anyone surprised by this? I’m still waiting for this so called “modern audience” to show up to buy these woke games featuring “diverse” characters and pronoun options. I’m convinced that these devs/studios watched a GDQ stream and proclaimed, “THIS is the modern audience! THIS is what gamers are now!” They don’t realize that these speed runners are on an absolutely extreme end of the gamer spectrum, and they represent the chronically online people who are able to commit thousands of hours of time to master a single game. These are not normal gamers.
or they'll go on their merry way to infect other studios and start the circle of "diversity" anew. just like John Carpenter's The Thing, of course always killing the host in the process and wearing it's appearance for a while.
Even though it´s a money grave. The production costs go into several millions. Given 1000 people bought this game (which may be far less with 72 players on release day) they have earned about 30k $. No sane investor would put money into it. So they have to rely on organizations (government , NGOs) to finance this crap. But their intention is to spread the message to as many players as possible , which is not the case here.
Doubt it. This was in development for 8 years. I feel like the budget would be high. And 8 years from now I don't think there will be any more games like that
Idk, after all these games have been failing financially, these DEI hires all grab what little money they can squeeze out of the company and then run for the hills to ruin someone else’s success. It will take years to fix the damage, but it’s easier to just release the games at this point and try to make some of the money back.
Indie games were intended for these "art" pieces. That's where you can express any message/experience you want. Burning 100million on your fanfic does not entitle you to everyone's wallet.
These are people who think freedom of speech = tyranny, and censorship = freedom. They also think looting and arson are a part of legitimate protest, and not criminal acts. They view everything upside down and backwards.
DEI haters stand strong. I am not even enjoying Black Myth that much but absolutely no regrets buying it. And will never buy another product that even hints of support for DEI agenda.
Black myth wukongis not really my thing but I'm glad it did well and stuck it to the alphabet mafia. I'm waiting for visions of mana and lollipop chainsaw might grab og RE2 when it releases on gog.
@@wallakfir90 Sadly, Ragnar Tørnquist who was lead on The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Anarchy Online, and The Secret World at Funcom, and went on to found Red Thread Games to make Dreamfall Chapters is still running things there now. Not sure why a bunch of Norwegians feel the need to make a game inspired by Trump, but I suppose if they made a game about the problems Scandinavia has it probably wouldn't as likely to get a grant from the Norwegian Film Institute to pay for most of the budget.
As a normal, regular Latino guy born and raised in Texas, if they want to spend millions of dollars for a game that will sell under a hundred copies, I say "you do you." I'll play fun and engaging games like Stellar Blade, Subverse, and classics like Metal Gear Solid.
The problem with DEI games is that companies like Blackrock are throwing free money at any studio that is willing to create games that have unpopular things like ugly people and politically charged garbage. As long as those companies keep throwing free money for DEI games, we're going to keep seeing DEI games in the future. I'd suggest NOBODY buy these kind of games and keep supporting studios that actually gives the player base what they want.
I never cared enough to know who is making Dustborn, I always thought it's some small indie studio, but you are telling me it's Quantic Dream? The same people who once made really popular games? Wow that sucks
@MrHellgate82 they're just a publisher, not the devs. Even still, I get your point, why would they pick this up? Some of their games had small political/ sociological undertones (Detroit) but that was about it, and they integrated into the story well. I hope this makes them realise no one wants DEI crap. I'm worried their next narrative game will have loads of it. The devs of this game are indie, only known for the Dreamfall games, of which there are two.
Dustborn was co-funded by the MEDIA sub-programme of Creative Europe, which is essentially tax-payer money from the European Union. These games will not stop anytime soon, best we can do is ignore them completely (which isn't very hard, since they're never any good)
That would actually be a brilliant tactic if you could make it work. Pirate a game, then get it refunded to drain their bank account. Get a few hundred hackers to do the same thing.
Is there a physical copy of the game? The only way this will be valuable is by the sheer rarity for future collectors like Super 3D Noah's Ark and Bubble Bath Babes.
So happy for them. Let's hope they can win GOTY this year and not being rigged like TLoU2. Asian devs and their game studios are our savior from Western-infected woke culture games right now.
Just an abject lesson. You can create a product, that doesn’t necessarily mean it will sell. A savvy studio should be focusing on providing a product that their customers desire. Attacking your customer base has never been a profitable pursuit. Concentrate on good story, good gameplay, and practical functionality. If both parties are considerate of each other, so much the better.
One thing I will praise Dustborn for is having an original IP. At least they are not destroying existing IPs to preach their message. It is not great praise but I must give them credit for a creating an original IP.
I'm a conservative, but that "CCP" comment from some commentators is beyond dumb. Just try reversing it. Every time an american company makes a game say "That's a U.S government game, why are we praising it?". It is equally ridiculous. Conflating people or companies with the goverment of their country is just such a shallow generalization.
It comes from the fact that they told reviewers not to talk about things the CCP hates, like "covid-19". But of course this is likely a defense mechanism agains persecution by their own government. You can't take CCP out of the equation because CCP always forces its way in.
Exactly 💯. It's a private company (who are all about free markets and making money by doing things with hard work). Sounds pretty American to me. They aren't doing this for the Party. They're doing this to feed their families. And the old guard Party tried to get rid of ancient Chinese legends by the way.
not to mention a journey to the west was written in like 1530 if i remember correctly, needless to say there wasn't any reds back then ... and it's quite precious to see them complain about the game being chinese propaganda, when western "entertainement" have been pushing commie propaganda, if not worst, for decades already.
Gotta make another comment. The thing is, games can have diversity in them, trans or whatever you want. The problem is, these developers and "writers" don't write characters as people, they write them as stereotypes that have no personalities and are only one note. The black characters personality is being black, the trans persons personality is being trans and so on. If these people actually tried writing these people as just people, they would probably be a bit more accepted in media but they don't because they don't know how.
God forbid a smaller dev studio make a video game you don't personally like. Like to compare a AA tier game at best to something with the budget of Wukong tells us nothing other than how you're willing to kick down to vindicate yourself and others.
well if you think about it, if the Chinese govt is behind this game and US govt is behind Concord... then which govt is the one just out there making a good product and which govt is the one spending ungodly amounts of money slandering the other one...
I'm sure the MA's exist, they just can't scrape together 30$ to support the games made for them. It's hard when you have student loans to pay for on a Starbucks salary.
Lol, a Chinese game said no to american DEI and is dominating the american market and showing america how to make successful games instead of american games shutting down many studios bcoz no one plays them. China is showing you how broken your "entertainment" industry is. 😂😂😂
There is such a negligible number of black female gamers. If a game puts black females front and center, I know to immediately pass. Game was made for a phantom audience.
I was pretty hyped about Dustborn, and it did not disappoint. And I say that in the way it failed. Had a good laugh at the number of players being in the double digits. Gamers don't want this crap.
That seems to be about the total number of people buying games driven by motives other than making good games. Glad to see them realizing the size of such an audience.
The best thing for devs to do when it comes to satisfying the modern audience is to just make mobile games for them, its cheap and it works within their broke budget
meanwhile, steam charts shown all -time peak of Black Myth: WuKong players was over 2.2 million. Monarch said "Racers should race, cops should eat donuts !" I say "Gamers should play real games, woke activists should play concord !! (or dustborn) "
At least we could be glad for DEI games and congratulating their PR departments for finding AND reaching ALL OF THEIR 200 target audience players. 100% target audience reach.
Well, I'm glad they didn't ruin an existing Franchise and did something separate. The same goes for concord. Those type of games can gladly exist for the "modern audience", as long as they don't interfere with other games.
Sony out here thinking Concord was a good idea instead of thinking of making a F2P LBP game, it would do wonders for them. Especially considering there was one In development back In 2013 till it was canned, pretty much perfect to make one now but no... Fuckin concord, a game nobody asked for
