I have a hen who has sneezed ever since i have had her. She isn’t sick as we have had her checked over and we have deduced that she actually has allergies. I have changed their bedding to chopped straw, cleaned daily and it has really helped her sneezing. We have to be very aware of any changes however as we have avian flu measures in place in the UK right now. It’s a reportable illness and if any birds have it the authorities have to be notified.

I usually don't feed my birds in the morning, but a front came through yesterday and now it's below freezing outside. The chain keeping the Garden gate closed is frozen and covered in ice. So I can't let them in to forage. Still, there are lots of baby green plants/grass growing but the cold wind led a bunch of them to huddle next to my feed room. So I threw Sunflower seeds everywhere for everyone to have a treat this morning. Also threw out kitchen scraps.

You know MG is incurable right? Birds remain lifelong carriers of of the bacteria. It’s also chronic, so it can appear anytime really, especially if stressed. MG can also be passed from the infected parents to the chicks, via the egg. So don’t breed to sell and keep a closed flock!

@@justrosy5076 it really depends on which disease it is. There are many different disease that can cause a respiratory infection such as Mycoplasma Gallisepticum, Infectious Coryza, Infectious Bronchitis, Infectious Laryngotracheitis, Staphylococcus, etc. Bacterial diseases seem to get destroyed in direct sunlight with temperatures higher than 72F. Can take up to a week or 2. Most bacterial diseases are easily destroyed with Bleach or Oxine. Viral disease are what take the longest out of all, some lasting for over 11 weeks to die off. Infectious Laryngotracheitis for example, can last in heat and cold for up to 11 weeks, however, it is easily destroyed by Bleach or Oxine or in direct sunlight for 3-4 weeks straight. We are going to put in a higher roost so maybe having 2 instead of just the one will help with that. I’ll answer this in my next live! Basically, it’s when the crop cannot empty the food into the next digestive process. Chickens can get very ill and even die from it if it’s not handled. There’s some things you can do at home but it’s one of those conditions that could need veterinarian care.

My chickens are fine walking right, eating and moving, it’s just that sometimes they sneeze, they are currently in a trailer that I had to make so they would be warm for the winter and they have been coupes up in their for a couple of days, they don’t look sick, so is it due to the weather they are sneezing or is it that the dust in the coop is causing them to sneeze sometimes

Is sand the best thing to put in a coop
@WelcometoChickenlandia
@WelcometoChickenlandia 4 года назад
I'm not a huge fan of sand in the coop or run but I know a lot of people like it. My concern about it being in the coop is that it would be cold in the winter and also difficult to do a full clean-out. I prefer shavings or straw. :-)

At what level of sneezing should I be worried? My chickens sometimes will sneeze once or twice when I am out there and sometimes never sneeze. Is sneezing normal and only abnormal when it is very frequent? I am very worried for my flock and am not sure if I should be. I would really appreciate your advice and guidance!

It can be totally normal and if it’s just occasionally and they are acting normal, I wouldn’t worry about it. People sneeze sometimes and it doesn’t always mean we are sick. ❤️🐔❤️

Hey even tho I’m a couple of months late to this video, I’ve recently have been feeding some wild chickens that have grown attached to me and one of them came up to me sneezing so much and when I looked up to see his face he had a whole snot bubble on his nose, and hes sneezing every other bite of food but then goes right back down to eating. I don’t know what they do outside of my yard but I try to make sure I don’t put there food in the grass anymore and I’m going to try the egg hacks. I hope my lil chicken is okay because yesterday he was 100% okay, so I hope he’s just got into something that didn’t agree with him. I also don’t want to try to spend a lot of money on them because they aren’t my chickens, so I hope some of this stuff can work. Thank you so much 😘

What is the difference between a CHICK snot and a chick sneeze, one of my chicks on my hand seems like its sneezing.. water seems to splash of its beak into my hands. And its doing it continuously right now for quite a time.. its my first time with chicks, should i be weird? As i comment this i think it got alright, is it just due to dust or was it sneezing?

Hi I have three 3 week old chicks at home but one recently started sneezing a lot as well as what looks like falling asleep in place and just sleeping a lot more overall meanwhile the other two are perfectly fine and very active. Sometimes while the others are eating the sleepy chick will suddenly wake up and walk around with them for a bit but quickly goes back to looking sleepy and lethargic. I’m worried he might stop eating soon is there anything you recommend or should I try the REST method first and see if that helps?
@WelcometoChickenlandia
@WelcometoChickenlandia 4 года назад
Oh no. It certainly does sound like they are sick. Unfortunately, I cannot offer a proper diagnosis as I am not a veterinarian. The first thing you should do is make sure your brooder is clean. Brooder pneumonia can happen when there is too much ammonia build up. You can certainly try the REST method as supportive care but your best course of action would be to seek a veterinarian's advice.

I love all this advice you give us, absolutely wonderful. But I'm a little creeped out about feeding my chicken scrambled eggs. That makes me think of cannibalism. Also, someone told me a long time ago that if chickens break an egg in the nesting box then you should remove it asap because if they eat it they will break more eggs. is this true?

Chickens don’t know that scrambled eggs are eggs. It’s common to feed scrambled eggs to chickens.

@WelcometoChickenlandia
@WelcometoChickenlandia 4 года назад
Unfortunately, your chick sounds pretty sick. :( The supportive care in this video are mainly for adult chickens, although separating her and putting some vitamins and electrolytes in her water would be a good idea. Make extra sure the brooder where she is living is clean and there is no ammonia smell because that can give them something called brooder pneumonia. Your best course of action would be to consult a veterinarian, I’m afraid. ❤️

@WelcometoChickenlandia

I would start the reintegration process as soon as they are feeling better. The longer they are from the flock, the harder it is to get them back in without too much stress. ❤️

I still have 1 still coughing and not eating or drinking very much. This has been going on for 2 weeks. I've offered her scrambled eggs, oats, oatmeal, fruit, sugar water. She eats maybe 2 bites. She has a blister-like bubble on the end of her comb. She's losing feathers and I can tell she's lost weight. She is still walking around normal and not showing any other signs of distress. She's not any worse, but not any better either. I want her to turn the corner. What do I need to do to make this girl well so she can go back to the flock?

If I were to treat 4 chickens for sneezing, do I use 4 pellets and extra water? Just once? Once a day? Once a week? Thanks!
@WelcometoChickenlandia
@WelcometoChickenlandia 3 года назад
Are you referring to the homeopathic remedy I talk about in my other video about respiratory stuff? Due to the nature of homeopathics, you only need to put two pellets in the water regardless of the amount of water or the number of chickens drinking from it. :)

One of our hens has been sneezing since we got her - and that’s almost two years ago! She’s about 2.5 years old, lays healthy, beautiful eggs, her comb is bright pink... and the rest of the flick is fine. Do hens ever sneeze just because it’s a tic or an allergy? I don’t see any signs of respiratory illness.

How young can you give garlic? I have week old chicks who are very energetic and perky, but I noticed one was sneezing and some of them are making watery poop. They are on medicated chicken feed and from a reputable feed store. They are otherwise healthy/living their best curious perky chick lives. Can I do the garlic for them this young? Thanks!

Great sickness action plan acronym .......REST......not only for chickens or pets but ...good enough for HUMANS ! So when we get poorly , we remove ourselves from work or groups of people ( isolate ), start taking medication ( electronites, vitamins etc) , eat scrambled eggs or soft foods , and make sure we are kept warm or cool off (temperature control with hot water bottle, blankets or ice packs ). 😄😄😄💚💚💚💚 Remember the old saying " coughs and sneezes spreads diseases " ? .....would love them posters back for today's viruses. Get well soon to all you poorly birdies, animals and people. 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚
