Few odd jobs on this morning trying to beat the heat, but the cows have started the 2nd rotation on the chicory.
It looks much better but we still need rain badly as everything is getting stressed due to lack of moisture

I’m Andrew The Once A Day Farmer, I farm alongside my father on my family dairy farm in New Zealand.
Our Dairy system is quite unique as we only milk our 320 jersey cows 'Once A Day' (hence the name) only in the morning, and they stay outside on grass for 365 days of the year!!

Awesome video as always Andrew. That’s some hot weather mate. Do you want some of this uk rain, I’ve got webbed feet, with all this water. Great use of the family motor, who needs a ladder haha. Cracking plums, should make lovely jam. Your pool is hotter than my house radiators. Definitely the right move getting extra fittings while your there, saves all that hassle looking for something you haven’t got, plus save on fuel and time, time is money. Thanks Andrew for sharing.

Thanks for the ride to town. It is fun to see towns in youtubers area. And nice seeing warm weather. We just had another snowstorm this weekend. You may have to hide your extra parts stash, lol You need to mount some cattle horns on your wheeler. What is the protein of the chickery? Time to make plum wine. The cows probably know which paddocks they are going next from habit over the year.

Beautiful plums Andrew, I envy you. 😍. I do hope you get some rain soon. I could see the cows heading for the shade of the trees when you put them in the night paddock. When we get a hot spell they all lie under the trees and come in filthy. Good video again Andrew 👍

Yep I need more trees, that’s definitely an ongoing project of mine 👍

We’re 35 days without rain now, will be needing the water tanker soon. That chicory sounded crinkly dry when the girls went in to graze.

good work, yip I'm also a fan of having a few spares around, such a hassle having to go in to town for a pipe join or that trough arm I forgot to fix last time and now I wanna use that paddock again doh!! Dissapointing about that cyclone wasn't it? really wanted that rain even to just water the chicory and turnips woulda been helpful.

Very disappointing, I thought we might get something but no! Hopefully this next one 🤞 although it if we get anything it doesn’t look like it’s going to be a lot 😩

I recon if you are hitting your water lines with the mower it may not be buried deep enough😆😆

Why do you not grow a ryegrass for your cows???
@TheOnceADayFarmer
@TheOnceADayFarmer 2 года назад
The whole farms pretty much ryegrass, but it drys out pretty early so we need summer crops for the cows to eat, we could do silage if that’s what you mean, but this way is a bit cheaper and less labour intensive 👍

How do you plant your Chicory ? Roundup the direct drill or plough ?
@benjaminbauer4883
@benjaminbauer4883 2 года назад
There is a video of the planting on his channel. But they just killed off the grass then direct drilled.
@TheOnceADayFarmer
@TheOnceADayFarmer 2 года назад
Yeah we spray out then direct drill straight in 👍

Why do you stil have 4 bulls Its a very cheap way to farm this way
@TheOnceADayFarmer

We carry them on to our over the cows the following year, saves us having to buy 4 extra bulls annually 👍
