She really showcases Em's writing in this. I lived in Appalachia for 20 years, and that cry in her voice makes me think of Old Time music, telling the story of the struggle in poverty-stricken communities there.

The guy on the slide guitar is Kasey's father, Bill. Before Kasey started her solo career, she was in the family band 'Dead Ringer Band' with her father, mother and brother.

After listening to the audio, and realizing that they didn't video the show; Kasey appealed to fans on social media, for any phone footage of this performance. This clip is coordinating fan footage with their audio recording; from that point of view this video, it's as dramatic as the song itself.

You're absolutely right. Don't be sorry. Kasey's emotional rendition makes you appreciate Em's writing skills. "goes home and barely knows his own daughter"... how can this song not tear at your heart strings. Plus, Kasey never phones in a performance. This is about her struggles, too. Her song "(Am I) Not Pretty Enough" sounds like a love song, but is in response to the main-stream music industry ignoring her.

GDay Mate, Best reaction to the best cover ever. Take a star out of petty cash, you deserve it. You also qualify for a permanent Aussie Visa . Of course, you may be deported following any future Ashes series losses we may incur in future years. You gave that a red hot crack and smashed it for six. Well played young cobber. Kasey Chambers is an Australian legend: the youngest person to be entered into the Australian Music Hall of Fame, a dozen albums and has more than 30 ARIA Awards (the Au Grammy's). She is beloved but is ignored by radio and was shunned by Sony. She's been performing in her father's band since she was 12 years old (her brother is backing vocals and her dad is on the steel guitar on stage here). She had some pop hits in the 90s but her heart and soul is Country in her own style. She wanted to commemorate the 20th anniversary of this song because she loves Eminem, and she had the time to rearrange and compose this masterpiece during lockdown. She is showing so much emotion because she has lived this to a degree as well. She is now 45 years old and a mother of three. This recording is the first time it was ever performed live and was done at the end of the concert. They thought it went well, so they used the recording from the sound desk and asked their fans who were in attendance to provide any footage they had to composite this one together. While there has been no public approval from Em, she has been allowed to put this song up on Spotify without challenge.

Chambers is a fantastic songwriter in her own right. A great, ironic lyricist. She started out with country music but branched off into many other areas. She's a huge talent, as is everyone in her band, as you pointed out . . . a ton of talented people. As an American fan for a long time, I'm happy she's getting attention outside of Australia. Check out some of her originals . . ."The Captain", "Pony," and "Am I Not Pretty Enough?"

Great reaction, thanks for the upload. This is from the description on the video: The video for ‘Lose Yourself’ is thanks to Kasey’s fans in the audience on the final show of her recent Behind The Barricades tour. After much demand from fans to release the live performance and noting so many cameras in the air, Kasey asked fans to send through any footage they had filmed. The result is a perfect time capsule of how a great song, performed authentically from the heart can bring a room of strangers to connect in such a powerful shared emotion.

This performance by Kasey, with all the emotion; l believe, conveys the attitude of mainstream commercial radio stations towards playing her music. Kasey had a hit with "Not Pretty Enough", off her third studio album; this was a commentary on the attitude of those radio stations even though she already had a huge following, in the end public opinion forced them to accept her and her music. As the statement goes "Never Put Baby in the Corner", in other words don't try to put Kasey in a 'box'.

The relentless cadence of rap doesn't lend itself to subtler emotions - here you can hear the fear of failure and then the fear of success that was always there in the lyrics but was sort of lost in the originals aggressive delivery. I am pretty sure he would be proud of someone bringing out the subtler aspects of what he was saying that his own style probably never could. The fragility she brings is something he never could despite him clearly experiencing those deeper emotions and also when she goes all Janis Joplin the anger and determination really hits home in a way thats accentuated by the softness of what came before. Her Dad on the slide guitar is pretty epic too.

I have watched SO many reacts of this song, and I think yours is my new favourite lol. I think Eminem’s version is frantic, angry.. while Kasey’s version is emotional and desperate. It is similar like Sleep Tokens version of Hey Ya! or what Ronnie do with his reimagined series. It focuses you more on the lyrics, gives you a deeper understanding what is the song about. Pretty cool tho! Moms spaghetti made me realize it was an Eminem piece and i threw my brain out of the door :D Yes, that is a guitar on the left! Sort of. There is a style where you play on it while it lays in your lap. Usually the player has a tube and presses down the notes with that, that gives it extreme sustain and the sound can be "wobbled" as you wish. The other way to play in this style is having a light bulb in your hand. Pretty neat for soul/country style music

Fantastic & beautiful reaction to our Legend Kasey Chief 👏👏👏❤️Raw unadulterated Brilliance! I was totally blown away when I first “experienced” this Phenomenal performance, amazing arrangement & pure to the emotional interpretation of Em’s masterpiece - just legendary!! Em (or the owner of the rights to it) gave her permission to release on Spotify, that says it all 👏👏👏 She is aged 46 at the time of this performance 2022. I’ve always been a fan of Kasey, she is a freakin amazing & talented musician, artist & woman. But this was next level genius & so personal for her. She has lived every second of this story in her own way. The performance wasn’t filmed, she put a post out after the show to fans present to please send in any footage, the compilation of which you see. The band killed it, matching & building with her energy brilliantly. Long time band member Brandon (I think 🤔) on guitar & the vocals that nurtured the momentum & her dad on slide guitar making it sing like a phoenix - all of them together made this one of the all time best live, for me a rebirth, not a cover, that I’ve ever heard, seen & felt….to my core.

I used to find the very last bit of this difficult listening coz I grew up with Brit prog rock but got totally jack of it by age 15 and became progressively anxious when subjected to the style, like in the supermarket. But I find reactions to the song, from so many different kinds of people, either side of the Atlantic; they’re all so intriguing and so I continue to watch and do so comfortably. I think part of it is the wherrr, wherrr sound which is sometimes found in prog rock but here it is somehow far more well placed/not over done. Can anyone tell me what instrument is responsible for the sound? Is it the old man’s lap steel? I don’t think it is but that is the most unusual instrument I can see on stage. Anyway this reactor was very very good.
