I am really glad Kelce said that if the roles had been reversed and the Chiefs had had the ball first and won the AFC Championship game, very few people would have complained that Brady should have touched the ball as well. We only really heard that argument twice and both times were after the Patriots won: Superbowl 51 and the latest AFC Championship game. I understand the excitement that someone like Mahomes bring to the game and enjoy watching him play. It would have been nice to see what he could have done in OT but rules are the rules and we've seen in the NFC Championship game that they work. The defense did its job and gave the ball back to the Rams' offense.
Habiba personally I think they should of changed since I move been a fan of the nfl. Brady has won 6/9 play off overtime games and won the toss in every single one, he always has the chance. And just because 1 game doesn’t get affected by it does not mean they are fair or work. This rule and the penalties calls are something that has to change this off season
@@tomgow5305 I hear you and there is probably a way to make things seem fairer if the league determines that the current rules are unfair. However, the numbers show that teams that win the toss win at a 50% rate or so. Also, there aren't that many playoff games that end up in OT, aren't they? Anyway, my initial point was that this particular criticism of the rule only seems to arise when the Patriots win, especially of the opposing QB plays an exciting brand of football.
The reason it doesn't seem fair is because everyone knows the Chiefs team was built around the offense. Defense was a second thought. We all knew this going into the season, we spent all our money on Offense, did nothing to fix the defense. And that should be a viable option, if that's the way the GM wants to build the team. And it worked all season long and throughout the postseason, until it came down to a friggin coin flip in OT. The best TEAM should win the game, TEAM consists of Offense and Defense, so both sides of the TEAM should see the field in OT.
My wife bought up a dozen pair years ago, giving me a new set every few years for Christmas. I've worn NikeMons for over 20 years. Didn't think about it until now they're older than some players in the NFL these days. Thanks for reminding me how close my feet are to the pine box.
I saw an article that said each team gets 10 plays alternating back and forth. First team starts at the 50 if they gain 10 then the other team gets the ball at the 40 you keep flipping back and forth at the end of the 10th play if the winning team is whichever team the moved the ball further. It was a cool concept.
lol people are complaining OT rule only because pats won that game. IF you want to complain, you should have done way before the start. The rules are there before game even start.
@@TheAlexheald he also didn't have Kelce, Hill, Hunt and Watkins to throw to. I'm just saying that there is now a season long book of film for defensive coordinators to evaluate. Look 5 years ago Ron Jaworski was saying Kaepernick and RG3 were going to change the QB position forever. How did that work out? We have all seen one year wonders in every sport. You have to do it more than one year regardless how impressive that year was. Greatness is doing it for years.
No they didn’t. Look; there’s a reason that, at each half, one offense gets the ball, then the other offense gets the ball. It is 100% fact that it’s better for your offense to have the ball than your defense. So while the Chiefs did get a “chance”, it wasn’t as good as the Patriots chance.
@@nathans5347The team that wins the coin toss wins the game in OT 52% of the time. Doesn't sound very dramatic to me, on average. How far do we go to try to even these things out and make it precisely 50-50 "chance" for both teams?
@@cdallapiccola Dude, listen to yourself. You're not even disagreeing that NFL OT rules are unfair. The whole "they got 60 minutes to try and win it" thing can be applied to New England too. How come they get a pass for only drawing the first 60 minutes? If that coin had landed on the opposite side, we're probably looking at a Chiefs - Rams superbowl. To make it more fair, you could do what college does. If that takes too long, then you could just have each teams attempt 2 point conversion until one of them fails and the other succeeds. It's really not hard or unreasonable to ask that the outcome of the game not be based so largely on a coin toss.
if both team keeps scoring the game will go on and on.....the nfl doesn't want that.....also the loser is still going to find away to complain....maybe they'll complain about the game going on too long and they were exhausted....the loser or losing team always finds a way to complain
they don't need overtime for that.....they should be able to do that within the 4 quarters (60 minutes)...nfl doesn't want games going on continuously....they wan't them done within a certain time.....other tv shows have to be aired as well...remember they use to cut off games during the middle of the broadcast if the game wasn't over to air other shows.....luckily they don't do that anymore
@@donovans6472 its, not fair because either teams weren't able to come with the win so they had to go to overtime, and its not fair that the patriots get a extra possession because they won a flipping coin toss, rules favor offenses giving the defenses a disadvantage scince the new rule in the playoffs 84% of teams that got the ball first won, because unlike the regular season teams have good offenses, which should be able to drive down the field to get a touchdown when needed.
Football is a team sport. The defensive units count, too. Make a stop. Force a turnover, as the Rams did against the Saints. If the rules are so unfair, so biased towards the winner of the coin toss, please explain why the winner of the coin toss wins the game only 52% of the time. Stop discounting the importance of defense. Rewatch Super Bowl 53. And Superbowl 50.
Ok. I’m tired of this crap. I’m a KC fan. But Brady is the best quarterback to play the game. I thought it was Montana til this year. I’m a believer. And really. Tell me something bad about Brady. He’s a good dad. He don’t beat his wife. He is always gracious. Maybe Mahomes passes him. Time will tell. I hope Mahomes doesn’t get hurt but history tells us quarterbacks like Mahomes don’t last long.
Too early to say that. I could name 10+ recivers(including thight ends) better than him overall. He is good, but not worthy of being referred to a player with the "Best hands of all time".
The OT rules are imperfect but fine as constituted. First of all, teams that won the coin toss end up winning the game only 52% of the time. That is as close to even as you will get.
I'm going to take Travis' side here. The "romance" of sudden death -- that the game can end on any given play -- is overblown. I still like what FIFA does in the World Cup. Play the overtime period to completion. If the first team uses seven minutes to drive to a TD, then at least the other team gets eight minutes to take its shot, and even if the second team has a three-and-out, as long as there's time on the clock, it has a chance to get the ball back.
Okay America I been a chiefs fan since I was 10 The way see it too get around the ot rules win the game in 4 quarters. Regular time. Both teams should have a chance in a championship games.
Rules are out in place for a reason in sports. In hockey the first team that scores in overtime wins. The other team doesn't have a chance to score afterwards. The game is over unless they go to a shootout which doesn't happen that often. When it's over by the rules it's Over !!!!!
Personally, I think the OT rules are fine, but if they were to be changed, I would advocate for: 1. The time period to be extended back to 15 minutes, as ties suck. Also, if one team has a run-heavy drive culminating in a field-goal, the other team is essentially penalized for no reason by a short-clock (which seems counterproductive to me, since the format was literally just changed to avoid game-winning, first-drive field goals). Believe this was shown to an extent in the 2nd cowboys-eagles game. 2. Both teams are assured a possession, but if the first team scores a touchdown, the second HAS to go for two if they score one as well. Thus, any touchdown essentially caps the OT period at 2 possessions, since if the first team kicks a field goal or doesn't score, then the current, normal rules apply and the second team wins with a td regardless.
Both teams got a chance in overtime, if your defense did not suck your offense would also had a chance to clinch the game. Complimentary football Offense Defense and Special Teams.
I like Sudden-Death more in the regular season. In the postseason, I want to see a bye-bye shot. Single-elimination tournament after a 16-game season in the most majestic sport in the world.
OT is an extension of the original game. You can’t change the rules. Every year the NFL gets closer to being a Powderpuff league. You’ve got 4 quarters to win the game. It’s bad enough that nearly everything gets reviewed. I’m surprised they still have Refs and not just cameras. Why not add 2-4 more referees for the “missed” calls?
Kelsey I'm sorry your first name is Travis you guys play good man you'll pick up again kicking a butt hurts but you just got to go to the next game and do your best
Even in a player as great as Travis Kelce, most of the question are about other players. "Paddy cakes,...... bake me a cake as fast as you can....." actually sounds like a good nick name for Mahomie.
Patty Mahomes looks where he throws. There are these things called peripherals. Which is still your eyes seeing where you are throwing. I used to do it when I played. Anyway. It does trick the defense in some situations. Pat Mahomes is good tho and so is Andy Reed. Travis Kelce is great. That whole team is good. haha
Oh wow really? Man I'm sure no one else thought of that. They're calling it no look because he's looking somewhere else to throw defenders off. Everyone knows he can see where it's going, he's not just guessing.
If Kansas City won that coin toss and the game, no one would be complaining that Brady didn't get another shot, or that the rules are stupid and unfair. Don't act like it's not true. Eisen is also completely right. Defense should be thrown under the bus. They know what the rules are and have been for I don't know how long, and if they can't turn the ball back over to their offense that's on them. Not. The. Rules. Be like Kelce here. Accept responsibility. Don't make excuses. It makes you look bad. Also, if you adopt college OT rules, games could go on for twice as long causing players to get fatigued and would likely cause increased risk of injury. Do you really want that for your team who is one game away from possibly going to the Super Bowl? Do you really want to risk injury to your starters? I think that probably has something to with OT rules being the way they are.
Sarah Neuren I’m with you as a chiefs fan, I can’t complain about the overtime rules because if the chiefs scored points in the first half we would have won. Us chiefs fans can’t blame the overtime rules for the loss
Well you are wrong when you say no one would be complaining. I for one would because the nfl has already admitted that the rule stating that the first team who scores first wins. It use to be a field goal and they changed it, admitting that that is not fair. So how is the team scoring a td first possession any different? It's more fair yes, but not fair in a playoff game. Kelce is right though, the Chiefs lost the game. They had 4 quarters to win. But they did lose on a coin toss. Defenses wear out and fatigue more than offenses and when you have the Patriots or another very good offense against a bad defense that has already played 4 quarters then there's a good chance you are going to see the same thing you saw in that game. I do appreciate Rich's point about how if they changed it it would give the other team an unfair advantage as well. I've mentioned it before as well. But if Brady scores a TD and then the Chiefs get the ball back and know that they have 4 downs all the way instead of 3 then that is not fair either. It's a hard situation to correct, and not saying I have the answers, but it doesn't matter what team it is it is not perfect and I think they should try to change it.
Give credit to Patriots rookie CB JC Jackson who covered Kelcey all night and most of the time one on one cause the Pats were doubling Tyreek Hill every snap
@@tjk9263 An undrafted Rookie at that. Because of his lack of pedigree the refs were on him all night will ticky-tack flags and he still contained Kelce Better than anyone I've seen all season.
Look Man, The Patriots are great team. But as a fan of the NFL, I am sick of seeing the patriots playing in the super bowl. It's boring now that every year its the same outcome. The Chiefs played the Pats twice this year. Both times the Pats just barely won those games. so If Brady is the G.O.A.T , then what is Mahomes ? I ask this because your G.O.A.T was almost beat in both of those games. If I were Pats fans I would be happy with the 6 championships because I bet you next year will be much different.
It does makes sense you have 60 minutes to get it done. It's a team game let you defense stop them all they have to do is hold them to a field goal and you get a shot. The team that wins the toss wins the game 52% of the time so absolutely no reason to change the rule.
Your incorrect..... Luck had nothing to do with it.... Your comment should have said stupidity instead of luck....it was stupid to line up almost 2 yards off sides.... Like nobody was gonna see the guy at the end of patriots offensive line, in a different uniform n facing the wrong direction....
@@thisguy2893 I mean it is stupid he was offsides, but it was also lucky that, that was the play he was offside on. If there was no flag Chiefs would have won. And having 4 fingers over isn't exactly 2 yards but that's ok.
If you are going to look at it that way , it never would have been overtime if they called the offense interference on their last touchdown drive . Two guys 5 yards down field blocking. It was such a bad call Belichick smashed an iPod after show how terrible his call was to the ref. O by the way the Pats still won and The GOAT has 6 .
Mahomes as great as he is will Not last long in the NFL his style of running and throwing sidearm Etc. will lead to injuries I hope not but we will see.......My bet is 2 to 3 years before he is sidelined for a backup.....................
So if you change the overtime rules to where both teams get the ball where do you draw the line on when the game should end? What happens when both teams score a touchdown in the 1st overtime and we head to a second overtime, a third overtime, a fourth overtime....the rules are the rules, I for one am getting tired of the rules or some of the rules being changed every single year.
We SAW Mahomes! He GOT his chance - 60 minutes of it! How about you score points in the first 30 minutes of the game? This whole conversation is ridiculous.
Thomas Kelly I'm not a fan or non-fan of either, but I think Patrick Mahomes makes Tom Brady look like he's playing boomer football. Mahomes makes football look new.
Thomas Kelly Personally I think Brady will be remembered as the pinnacle of Boomer Football. Not so much the Next Gen Football that the young stars today are playing, and that's changing the game.
@@KeatonMcAdams please. LOL hey buddy little secret whipering voice They double or Triple gronk all the time. Kelce never gets doubled big difference 🤣😂🤣
Keaton McAdams he’s been better this year but last year it was Gronk and they are the same age. But Gronk is still a much Much better blocker. Gronk is going to retire this year most likely. But Gronk is the most dominate tight end ever. Kelce is a really big WR. Gronk is more of a traditional TE.
