I've had this bike for several days now and I have not had problems with it so far. ru-vid.comUgkxn_jUDSlprMIeubd9rHdEAnv59nKfjcKv The handlebars, seat+ seat post, pedals, and front wheel were detached for shipping. It was easy to reassemble, but I did need to go out and buy a set of tools in the metric system to reattach parts. Use lubricant (WD-40 works well) on screw threads and hinges before re-assembling.(NOTE: Do Not Throw Away Any Of The Packaging Until After Assembly Because Some Of The Packaging Contains Small Parts That You Will Need To Reattach Parts!!!)Took it to a bike kitchen for fine tuning afterwards, and for refilling the tires (they'd lost some air during shipping) and then practiced riding on it. It fits me perfectly at 5'4" with the seat at the lowest possible setting--would not recommend for anyone shorter, as it may be difficult to get on and off the bike without assistance of some kind. The aluminum body is beautifully welded together--the only thing that irks me somewhat is some of the plastic parts, but oh well. Not too experienced with bikes (haven't owned one in years) but if you're not willing or are unable to spend $600+ on another bike, I would say this is a good way to get started. Just check everything before you go out riding--air levels in the tires, wobbling of the seat, handlebars, or pedals, loose screws/parts, you know, as it will happen over time. Common sense. Good luck to ya, and hope my review helps.

I like seeing the different options. As much as I would love the trailer I’m thinking of getting the rear mount for me personally because I will need the back of my bike to put a cargo trailer like The Bob Yak trailer since it’s slim, because I’m gonna need to go grocery shopping. Thanks for allowing me to see the different options because I will definitely will be needing to hope on the road since for some reason these counties believe that sidewalks are unnecessary after a certain point as if every single person owns a car.

In '86 when my wife was pregnant the first thing we bought for the baby was junior back tandem, followed closely by a set of kiddie cranks. From about a year old our eldest daughter rode in a Hamax rear seat on one of our bikes. At three she rode the tandem fitted with kiddie cranks, whilst her younger sister used the bike seat. At five she was able to ride the juniorback tandem without kiddiecranks so we swapped them over to our touring tandem for the youngest to ride. In winter it gets cold for a child sitting motionless in a bike seat, so we were limited to rides of an hour or two, but in summer one hundred mile rides were feasible at a very early age. We often did borrow a Burley Lite back in the 80s so that we could take a friend or even two out with us. With three and one year old grandsons, I am currently refurbishing the juniorback tandem, but also planning to purchase a Burley Bee to tow behind it.

This is our third one of these car seats. The first we got as a gift, the second we bought to replace a cheaper on in our second car. The third was an insurance replacement. These seats are easy to install, adjustable and easy to disassemble to clean (vomit and spills).

Your daughter is so adorable and they are both beautiful happy kids. Props to you. I'm trying to really incorporate my daughter with my riding. She got taken away from me for a few years and now she's 6 and not 3 or 4 so I'm trying to find a solution that will make up for the bigger size and weight she now has. She loves adventuring with dad and I must give her that before it's too late.

Hey Bryant, it's good to hear from you. And I'm so sorry that you weren't able to spend that much time together until now. I truly hope that things are getting better and you're building a quality relationship. Since she's 6, I would definitely recommend either getting a bike trailer OR to get a tandem bike for her that attaches to the seat post of your bike. A bike trailer like the Burley Bee is a really good, affordable option that's perfect for a 6 year old. Best of luck to you!

I never liked the tag along bikes that attach to the seat tube of your bike, they are inherently unstable. If you can afford it a tandem is a much better solution. We had a junior back tandem which is quite small at the back, my daughter could ride it from the age of 5, and with a kiddie crank attachment from her third birthday. She could ride all day, was safe sitting behind you, you don't have to worry about how they manage in traffic, but they learn roadcraft riding with you. When the children grew we transferred the kiddiecranks onto our touring tandem so the four of us could ride together. We did occasionally borrow a trailer so that we could take a friend or friends along with us. It's great to involve the whole family, you can converse with each other, tell stories, sing songs etc.

I use both child seats and bike trailer. However I've experienced that some drivers don't see the bike trailer and are about to crash into it. So I see some risk with using a bike trailer as well. Especially when biking in the city even though you are using only bike paths and bike lanes.
@BikeGrowRich
@BikeGrowRich 3 года назад
I would agree that riding with a trailer in cities is more dangerous that with a child seat.
@cwr8618
@cwr8618 3 года назад
i wouldn't ride either option that close to cars as either is dangerous. You're essentially putting you and your kids life in someone else's hands. With the amount of people on their cell phones, putting on makeup, jamming music, etc., it's just a terrible idea. Why take that chance

You can get a front mounted child seat that is just the saddle & foot rest. This would solve your 2 complaints since you can actually have much older kids ride that way for even longer than the back mounted seat & the center of gravity is more natural & a funner/easier ride for the adult

@BikeGrowRich
@BikeGrowRich 2 года назад
Hey Alexander, interesting you ask! I've actually ridden with 4 kids a few times (2 of my own and 2 friends). The way we did it was with a front seat, rear seat, and bike trailer. The reason this works is because the rear seat and the bike trailer actually don't attach at the same place. Bike trailers attach at the axel of the wheel, and most child seats attach at the seat post or rack, so there's usually no conflict.
@stephenariela8683

You mentioned this not being safe for the road. We live in the UK and would buy this for replacing it with having a car as my husband has been cycling to work and we don’t really need a car except for when going out with girls. In this case we would use the bike trailer but would need to suit the road. Is this an option?
@BikeGrowRich
@BikeGrowRich 2 года назад
Yeah, riding on the road is not necessarily "dangerous" but just slightly more risky than taking the sidewalks and paths. Of course, it depends on the road. Take the back roads if you can, and I'd try to stay on the paths whenever possible. Lights and reflective gear is helpful. Also bike trailers come with a flag in most cases.

Really good content! Looking for your advice here: with my kids turning 6 and 2 next January, what would you advise to get? Soon the younger will join the brother on his school so I'll be commuting ~3 miles everyday to take them to school. I thought about getting the back-mount child seat but with its ~22kg limit soon it will be useless to take my oldest son. Of course I could re-use to take my youngest daughter only... anyways, I'm feeling tempted to get the trailer, not only because I can take both but essentially because I'm learning I can attach it to a road bike, which is the only bike I have. This road bike is actually 100% of the time at home, attached to a smart trainer, and as I'm considering getting a smart bike I think I could repurpose the road bike to use on the trailer. Your advice is welcome!
@BikeGrowRich
@BikeGrowRich 2 года назад
Hey man, I totally would recommend a bike trailer for your situation, especially if you have two kids, they're growing, AND you seem to like using a road bike. It's actually a LOT easier to pull a trailer with a road bike than having one or two seats on your bike frame. A 6 year old is definitely getting too big for a child seat (from experience), and they will also not be so comfortable. I feel you when it comes to taking the kids around to school and places. Don't give up on that dream! In your case, I'd get either the Burley Bee bike trailer (affordable and super lightweight), or if you want to spend more you can get a stroller (the Schwinn Joyrider is the best stroller-trailer in my experience). You can check out the other videos here on the channel if you need help picking a bike trailer.

@chrisfoxwell4128
@chrisfoxwell4128 2 года назад
Do you have any thoughts on a higher backed or lower more open rear seat? The seat in video, should the bike go over, the only protection is the helmet. I'm looking at the Bobike Exclusive Tour Plus that has a lot of protection but seems excessive and maybe even less enjoyable experience for the kiddo. I've ridden bikes all my life and never with a helmet so i'm not sure what's acceptable and what's overkill. I would be putting it on a 750w e-bike and will be using it on roads at times.

I have a 40 lbs kid and I've been told I'm at the max weight for the seat and rack , it's unfortunate because it's the most efficient seat for my situation. If I can find a weight bearing rack , I'd extend the use of the bike seat , are you able to let me know the average maximum weight for a child seat and what kind of bike rack you're using? Greatly appreciated 🙏
@BikeGrowRich
@BikeGrowRich 2 года назад
Hey Penzo, I actually don't have a rack on my bike. The child seat just mounts directly to the frame via the seat post. My experience is that the weight capacity is a safe estimate by the company. So I would test it with your own weight to see if it might crack. If it seems solid, I'd say stay with what you've got.
@Bettys_Eldest
@Bettys_Eldest 2 года назад
I don't know what it is like now, but 30 years ago when we were in the market 40lbs was the maximum we could find. At the time we used a Hamax set with a Blackburn pannier rack. As our daughter was always above the 97th precentile weightwise, we were glad when aged three she was tall enough to ride the back of a juniorback tandem. For many strong healthy children 40lbs comes all too early.

Yeah, just a few times my bike fell over with a kid in it. Helmets are helpful. But that was because I wasn't careful. If you just lean it on a wall or something solid, then there's not much to worry about. It's actually very easy to get around with a kid, and many people do it around the world.

@@BikeGrowRich I got the back seat. When I first used it it was a little scary but over time it got use to it. If I don’t have a wall to lean the bike on I unhook him and he climbs out and then I get off. I’m really interested in getting the trailer as well

I've seen countless kids asleep in the back seat with parent oblivious while the kids head is bent unnaturally and bouncing all over the place.

Haha, yeah it's so common. There are rear seats that have more of a cocoon to let them rest their head. Anyway, that's another reason I do like trailers more generally, especially for younger kids that can't stay awake for the ride :)

@@BikeGrowRich after watching your videos and hearing you explain that, my SO and I totally agree.

As someone that has crashed and needed 70 stitches in my face, I WOULD NEVER carry a child on a bike with me and if I would have crash with one of these front mounted carriers they most likely would have been killed! Buy a bike trailer. I know it is not as personable but it so much safer.

Best way to ride with a child. No time. I use the bike trailer for my chihuahua's. More fun!! They don't cry or whine. LOL
