Sushi Niknak was born in 1980 and Sky TV didn't start until 1990. So of course he did not have Sky TV as a child. He was floundering so badly for an answer, he crashed into the rocks, jumped out the boat, poured petrol all over it and took a blow torch to it. But before that, he left them on the beaches. {:o:O:}

@@Greg-q2r "So there's mass starvation in the UK?" There is mass malnutrition and parents and children going without food or heating in the Winter. Sometimes both. This is because of the insanity of Brexshit and the multi-millionaire monsters increasing taxes by £13,000 per family over the last 14 years, and cutting social care services so they and their billionaire friends and donors can siphon the money up and send it to their off-shore accounts. Instead of investing it in the country. {:o:O:}

@a_kazakis
@a_kazakis 3 месяца назад
But even that is not enough to explain what he said. Even if he truly believes his privilege is 100% earned, then he could still LIE! He is a politician after all. But the problem is that he didn't lie, he answered the question honestly, which in my opinion is even worse in this case. The true problem here is that he couldn't even IMAGINE what the reaction of normal people would be to his answer. The problem is that he doesn't understand WHY his answer was bad! And like James said, you can be the most privileged person on the world and still understand why that answer was bad. It's not privilege, it's lack of imagination. He could not predict how that answer would be received.

The only logical conclusion that you could come to when considering Sunak's behavior is that he simply didn't want to appear alongside Macron, Shultz and Biden. Question is why? Was he calling upon his Brexit muse and was therefore discomforted by appearing alongside two leading European leaders in which case he was pathetic. Or was he so uncertain of himself that he simply felt embarrassed in the company of world statesmen. In which case he was pathetic.

1960's Glasgow we ran out of food regularly. Remember going to bed early with white bread torn in strips, soaked in a bit of warm watered down milk and sugar to eat, usually depended on the family allowance being collected on a Tuesday as the wages from Friday were done, to get us from Tues to Fri. Linoleum on floors, scrap wood and bits of coal burned in the one fire on the Living room. Thankful for free school dinners. School uniform from the council's charity providers, cardboard insoles cut to put inside shoes that had holes in them, but still let the wet in through the soles. Permanently hungry with my 2 wee brothers. But everyone else was in the same boat in our street. Played shops with the contents of dustbins from the midden with our neighbourhood pals, went to the swing park and played with skipping ropes. Both our parents worked.

A lot of Americans quit working during lockdown as well. It’s called The Great Resignation over here. Part of the reason may have been a lot of baby boomers were getting ready to retire anyway so they took the first opportunity to do it earlier. The rest were people who realized that there was more to life than spending most of their lives in American workplaces where they live on 2-3 weeks of vacation for most of their working lives. They’ve turned their hobbies into businesses or joined the gig economy. Probably not reporting all of their income. Some people returned to work reluctantly and were laid off last year when their performance (or lack thereof) showed they had quietly quit while they were working remotely. High interest rates curbed a lot of rehiring last year but now businesses are cranking out the postings. But wages haven’t really gone up or at least not that I have seen. I think workers are going to start getting restless soon.

The way he was at the homeless shelter is so telling. He has no concept of what being poor is like. How can a prime minister who doesn’t understand how the majority of people in his country live, lead effectively? He can’t. But to be honest, I do agree with some of the callers that it’s not really his fault. He obviously had an extremely sheltered life. That’s not his fault, but it makes him 100% the wrong person to lead.

Rishi Sunak’s School Of Hard Knocks (Aka It’s A Hard Crock Life) “The problem was that Normandy Overran; and it got in the way Of my Sky interview Sacrifices, a few I have made; there was no pay to play” Maybe it had not been invented Or perhaps parents hadn’t consented To young Sunak’s wish, he Was deprived, poor Rishi Just waited, until they relented He had always known trouble and strife It was tough, Rishi knew the hard life Of Winchester schooling And pubescent drooling For a small multi-millionaire wife All her money put Rish in a spin He did not know quite where to begin There was courting, of course And to stave off divorce Their financial affairs were a sin And yet Rishi remembers his roots An impoverished childhood, his suits Made too fit, for skid row Tailored in “Savile Sew” A boutique, it is where Rishi puts His feet planted, firm, square, on the ground As he surveys the world all around The poor and destitute See the shine on his boots And reflect on his hat, he is crowned With glory, yet he’s down to earth He’s the salt of it too, since his birth A messiah of sorts As he sneers and he snorts At those who don’t have his net worth And yet, Rishi isn’t phenomenal Compared with another, the chronicle Tell us Jacob Rees-Mogg Often just has to hog The limelight, looking down, through his monocle And so Rishi’s redemption is near His time’s almost up, it is clear He has the incentive To be more attentive He just has to learn not to jeer

Hello, James! The case of workers being burned out is not unique. All over the world in some countries, people are realizing why do they have to do this? more and more. IF all we did was work for ourselves, we would actually be working less. But we aren't. The bulk of an average person's pay goes to his Landlord --or what I call, his LORD. Nothing else. Landlords. By that, I mean the rich man on top. Everyone else in the middle are just middlemen. Even some property owners who are landlords themselves --as long as they kick up a large percentage up to someone higher, they are just part of the long chain that serves the NOBILITY at the top. These are no longer people who "worked hard" to get there. These are multigenerational heirs of vast wealth being maintained by corporate rule. They are born owning 4 Ferraris out the gate. That's the problem. And as the population needs to sustain this growing noblity, you will have the French Revolution all over again.

The EU passed laws that we did ignore... here's one - prisoner votes. We never implemented votes for prisoners despite the EU putting huge pressure on the UK to adopt it. Here's another - EU health and safety standards. It was deemed that the fact the UK has criminal negligence on the statue books and the capacity to imprison people failing to meet appropriate H&S standards, the UK would not have to adopt EU H&S standards as they'd actually be lower. Which party was in power when those two EU laws were ignored by the UK? That'd be Labour... under Blair.

If you grew up KNOWING that your parents could afford certain things but CHOSE not to give you everything you asked for, it is possible to simply NOT get it. Sunak to the homeless individual he's serving in a soup kitchen : "It's a great place isn't it?" Rather like Rees-Mogg saying "Foodbanks are uplifting": there is nothing great about a place having to exist to help the homeless, because what it speaks to is the fact that these places are needed at all in a rich country like ours because of the govt's austerity and neo-liberal market policies increasing wealth inequality. James, out of those 6 millions, how many are carers, how many are raising children and home-schooling, how many are adult students? And then how many made enough to simply not need to work again? I certainly wish I could.

Did Sky Tv exist when he was a young child . Age 44 so 40 years ago was 1984 . Sky tv began 1989 and only had a million subscribers in early 90”s. So not many had it and was always a luxury subscription. How is that a doing without? Was his house warm? food on table? Did he have a table? Anyway it matters little what he had, as long he has compassion and support for poorer people and redistributing the staggering wealth for the few in this country by taking from poor and services

The number of us who are ‘economically inactive’ specifically in the UK may have something to do with relatively low wages - there are so many skilled but near-minimum-wage jobs here that are much better paid in comparable countries. Those starting a family and those nearing retirement are especially likely to do the maths and decide it’s just not worth it to stay on the hamster wheel.

Sunak is a devout Hindu, and he is married to a Brahmin (the highest Indian Caste). Caste is still very much a "thing" in India and a fundamental tenet of Hinduism is Karma. According to Wiki :"Karma is a concept of Hinduism which describes a system in which beneficial effects are derived from past beneficial actions and harmful effects from past harmful actions..." - and thus the poor are obviously at fault re. their poverty, it comes from past bad actions.

Sunak: As a child I had to go without "lots of things"...like Sky tv for instance. So, **not** food or heating, then. For these are the kinds of things that spring to mind when talking about doing without: real hardship. But oh no. His idea of connecting with the everyday struggles of the rest of us is "doing without Sky tv" ffs Had he been politically astute he could've said, "Tbh I have never been in a position where I had to do without things, so I cannot imagine what it must feel like to go without the bare essentials; but it doesn't mean I can't sympathise and feel compassion for those who don't have enough." But then, if he were to say that, he would have to acknowledge the part his govt's policies for the last 14 years have played in contributing to people experiencing more poverty & hardship today, which he won't do.

I think Rishi Sunak is psychologically unable to say “I don’t know” and to take in other person’s experiences unless they mirror his own. It’s traits of a sosiopath and Westminster is mired in it and training new politicians from private schools to follow the same selfish thought pattern.

On the topic of worklessness, Ive worked in different countries in Europe and the UK feels like the comparatively worst on the whole work-life balance and its very often about management attitutes and rules that are a pain in the neck to workers and often arent even necessary. Unless one happens to be paid tons of money, work can look like a sentence instead (and even then, money is only motivating people up to a point). Covid managed to show many people that the devil of not earning a wage isnt necessarily that horrible and that a chunk of people have actually saved enough to live with less or no work.

I don't think it has anything to do with Rishi not being intelligent enough, he simply doesn't have the mental agility to come up with quick responses to questions he didn't anticipate. Some people are very quick on their feet, Rishi strikes me as someone that rehearses his talking points so much that he can't deviate from his script quickly.

Right so his dad was a doctor his mum had a pharmacy , they weren’t hard up and couldn’t have been or he wouldn’t have gone to 1 of the most expensive schools and if he lived in a normal but bit better off family he would have had working class friends, he can’t imagine being that hard up any more than I can imagine having hundreds of millions in the bank

Yep probably was a young advisor , no living memory. No parents or grandparents alive who took part. But that said knowing what these amazing heroes did , is that even necessary ? We’re Richie’s grandparents or relations in the war ? If so he is disrespecting them. Hundreds of thousands of Indians were in WW2.
