@@jabellatv3240 you dont have to disrespect one artist just to bring another artist up. gambino is an incredible rapper/singer/actor/director/producer, so i would say he is more versatile than kanye, but you cant deny kanyes impact, especially in production
I am so shocked and impressed that this is him singing the song. I've only listened to this song on spotify, prime music, or a friend playing it in a car. I always thought this was another person singing.
Oh wow... I thought he was making his voice higher pitched electronically all this time. He can sing really well, he acts really well, he is really funny, he directs really well. What can't this man do? He is truly so talented! I don't think there is anyone who truly has excelled in all the different art categories in his generation and in a long time. I hope he continues to release amazing art for a long time 😄
@@layne182 in the album version the formant is raised higher. so yeah it is technically "electronically manipulated", but the pitch and vocal control is all him.
i'm don't know exactly how pitch shifting works but this here sounds very diffrent from the album version. I love this version but the album version i'm not digging at all.
Dude has produced critically acclaimed songs, an award winning show, and is an incredible comedian. Im half expecting him to create and open an incredible art gallery next.
So lemme get this straight he was an actor in community then went on to become a comedian on 30 rock and now is a singer/rapper he has unlimited talent
@@michaelmcguire498 he was doing Derrick comedy and music at the same time. His first project sick boi came out in 2008 . Then he started writing for community that came out in 2009 . And also has a movie called Mystery Team that came out the same year . Truly a Renaissance man at it’s finest
I still remember this. Everyone thought there was some vocal processing going on, but when he opened his mouth and put that to rest, it was a real "lightbulb" moment.
I like how Ludwig Göransson played the guitar. He produced the song and also composed for big blockbuster films such as Black Panther and Oppenheimer and is also a 2 time Oscar winning Composer
T1nyDynamite its falsetto, its just passing air through the back of the nasal cavities as opposed to the throat. to sound deep and operetic you use your diaphragm.
The thing is, every studio version of every singer you've ever heard is autotuned. When it's done right, you cant notice it. And no, you couldn't sound good with autotune, you have to be able to sing well for it to even be useful. The over-the-top, robotic sounding autotune is a stylistic choice. It's not supposed to trick you....
@@NidokingOtsutsuki what? That's not correct at all. First of all, if every studio song an "artist" has is autotuned, then i'm sorry, he/she is not a singer, because you need to be TUNED to sing. Second of all, autotune was invented in 1997, so i don't know why you say that EVERY studio song is autotuned. And third, current pop music is full of singers that can't sing, but with a little too much of autotune and vocal effects they sound okay (if you ask me they still sound awful, but people seem to like it).
I swear people are sleeping on this guy, he can sing that high! he can rap, he can act, he is a comedian, he directs/produce... and we are so obsessed with people who have no talent *side eye*
This perfomance should be engraved in stone for all generations to come to enjoy. 2022 and its definitely still a vibe. Much love from Kenya. Thank you Gambino. This is true art🔥🔥🔥🇰🇪
ayyo autotune is not used for making your voice thin dumbass pitch correction is to be done to make voice higher in this case gambino's voice is quite high-pitched so it's his real voice
a little bit of autotune/ muffling woulda went a long way here. but can also appreciate how raw it sounds. still a great performance considering hes not actually the 60 year old black woman that he sounds like.
Everything about this is incredible. This man is a generational talent and so humble after absolutely smashing his performance he gives a little bow at the end of it. Nothing but love for Donald Glover/Childish Gambino. Everything he does is amazing.
I love that you can tell he's singing it live. The occasional second where he slides to the right pitch, or the ad libs that make it sound so powerful and impressive. Its not studio manipulation, he just has an insane vocal range.
@@TheSUPERSNIPER59 you guys must be white cuz there are black male singers past and present whose vocal abilities top donald's. not to say he can't sing, but we have a different standard.
Sky Waterer they never died, they were standing in the shadows of mainstream music. But trust, they've always have been and always will be around 👌 Hopefully, more of them get a chance to step into the light in the near future.
RoyalRed I concur. Ive been listening to him since he was on his Breezy Love Joy shit, but his Malibu album is beyond nice. I wanted him to get that grammy. The fact he was nominated though was great. If he stays on track, this year will be a good year for him. Glad people are recognizing it.
He also hits an off-key bend right at the beginning of the solo, but just kept bending it past the bad note (what Hendrix called "bending it into infinity") so that it didn't even sound like it was *supposed* to be a certain note, then he blazed through the rest of the solo. He noticed his mistake and figured out how to turn it into something even better within like 0.05 seconds, while performing live in front of a TV studio audience on a broadcast that millions would be watching, and was able to make it smooth as butter. I've played for 20+ years and hearing that moment got me so pumped haha. Great guitarist, great band, great song, and Glover... just no words for that guy's talent.
This dude is a one man army of talent... he rap, sing, direct, produce, act, does stand-up comedy, babysit, read palms, raise pitbulls, groom unicorns, buy sell & trade used low mileage UFO's, feeds surf and turf to the homeless... and rumor has it, he single handedly built at least 2 pyramids in the heart of Egypt 1000's of years before his own birth
Well, his falsetto actually sounds good. Many people try to sing falsetto and it sounds like they're stepping on the neck of an ostrich, so compared to songs where he's got a deeper, low-end drop to his voice, the fact that not only he can sing falsetto, but give every note that light, floating sort of feeling, that REAL soul sound, AND hit some pretty damn high notes, is very VERY impressive.
Have you ever heard Al Green or Sam Cooke? that's soul singing and that's some crazy good stuff. Nothing against Childish Gambino but to compare him to real soul singers is greatly under appreciating those who came before him. Like I said nothing against him, how often do you see where genre's even last long enough to be able to pass onto a equally talented individuals. I say that because Childish Gambino is not a soul singer that would happen to.
Damn! I honestly thought he was doing a voice effect to make himself sound like an old black lady, but this dude actually did the voice! Childish Gambino is so talented. I'm a new fan and he's got me hooked now.
I went to his This Is America Tour in Paris back in 2019 and this song was so AMAZING. Ain't no video that can transcribe the chills and thrills you get when he's singing this song. It was THEE BEST song I ever heard live for all my life and I went to a lot of concerts. I love this man. So talented and hardworking.
Insane!! What a voice , what a song!! Timeless. Now this is definition of a true artist and musician… not BS we make mainstream. Out of this world!!! ♥️
REAL ishh right here. Literally looked like he had just stepped out of a chamber as lights were coming up, and he became humble "Donald" right after that.

That crowd had no clue how lucky they are to have witnessed such a performance......I can't even come up with words ...like how do you say just wooooo at the end of that.....? Na no way
For the longest I thought it was a female singing. I would at first wait for Childish to come in with a sick verse in the song questioning why the name of the female was never featured. Mind blown
autotune wouldn't pitch somebody's voice like this, i guarantee you they did use autotune on the album version of the track, to keep his vocal in tune cause singing like this be hard as fuck
I think I love this song because its got the energy of a melancholy Prince ballad ☺️. The comments on the vocal range also made me think of Prince ❤. You’re awesome Childish Gambino!
How is that something people would "realise"? You just want to let people know that you know a shitty, really uninteresting piece of trivia. Nobody cares that you know that. You probably don't even follow his work at all, you just saw the same video millions of other people saw, where he explained producing this song.
This man just leaves me marveling at EVERYthing he does, whether singing, dancing, acting, writing, producing for TV, it is almost PAINFUL, the amalgamation of feelings in my body while watching Mr. Glover. "This is America" is a regular viewing. As amazing a MJ was in dance, technically, Danny Glover's dancing in that video, to me, rises above any single dancer performance MJ did in it's expressiveness and storytelling and freedom, etc. And technically, too, it was breathtaking.
shawn johnson that's where I first heard the song and was like damnnn what song is this?! Then was shocked when it was gambino, he is bringing soul back! to the
La Flama Blanca I did and said everything you just said! I googled and found out it was Gambino in the movie theater, already had the album on my phone but hadn't listen to it yet
There's also the episodes when he was humming Daybreak (the Halloween episode where they all tell horror stories, and the one where Annie breaks the Batman DVD)
