@@Jay-eb7ik It was to completely tie up any loose ends in that town. If they just killed the horse and fled. Someone from that town would inform the neighboring towns about them which would get their adventuring guild license revoked essentially eliminating their only plan to making money.

With Rudy going full throttle(with that staff) it'd achieve something on par with the lowest tier hurricane. Just a reminder: There's still King, Imperial, and Divine/God Tier magic that stands above Saint.

I saw it as Rudy realizing the anime and manga he saw wouldn't work in the real world. In a lot of series maybe even most his hostages would just be paralyzed with fear last episode and no one would die likewise the snake would allow for a solid 5 to 10 minutes of talking and/or taunting before it got serious. Rudy may even need to learn the lesson one or two more times before he fully realizes he's not in a babyproofed world like most isekai.

The novel gets really really boring for a bit though before it picks back up. I had to put it down for like 2 years before I picked it back up. That and while this series is sooo fucking good its cringe factor is set very high.

There are his morals involved as well, as seen when he felt crappy because of his decision. But, regardless let's analyze this the combat-hardened warrior wants to interfere immediately whereas the person who is the "brains" wants to wait. Rudeus ever since he entered the world has treated it like a video game. When does he get serious about life? When something involving death is happening in front of him and then that consideration is lost on him. As seen he put his desire to gain a fearsome reputation over the safety of others. Even if he could heal them there was no guarantee that the group being attacked would last as seen and healing has its limits. To be honest, the warrior would have given Rudeus hell even if his plan did work as Ruijerd doesn't tolerate that stuff. That is not what he was told to do by his former and current world parents. The only reason why the dude defended Rudeus is because of his emotions. His entire thought process was self-serving.
