Having only seen the immediate onslaught of it, it’s impossible to know how greatly an area it would affect. Still, the Man-God did call it a “mana disaster,” and the word disaster should have tipped one off that it was not something on a small scale. But it flew past my head, and like you, I was surprised at the calamity it caused (via Roxy’s return).
Personally, I assumed the nearby city was impacted as well, but didn't think it'd go out as far as Rudy's home village dozens of miles away. I don't think they've realized it includes Sylvie, yet, since Paul's message didn't mention her. I haven't listened to the entire discussion, but they seem to be past that part.
Yeah later on when paul blames rudy for not solving this issue, its like "how tf was he supposed to know what even happened?" its not like you can shoot rudy a text. it takes a year to cross a continent in this world that apparently spans multiple continents.
Your reaction channel is so underrated as you are one of the few reaction channels that actually pay attention to details. It still boggles my mind how other reaction channels are bigger yet all they do is shout or make cringey jokes and not pay too much attention to the story at all.
most pl watching `reaction`content arnt there for the deep analzsis/thought the reactor has. they just look for ppl to see if they get the same reaction as them living through said experience discovering the show. i personally love the deep dive analysis reactions. like autosave and teeaboo gives.
Hey @AutoSave, I feel like you guys missed a big point when discussing at @35:00. Rudy wasn't about "making it rain". Rudeus was about so much more and it didn't have anything to do with washing the hair color out of Rujerd's head. That demon cont.'s town is Surrounded by GIANT walls of stone, like a big astroid hit and they created a town at ground zero. Aka it is very much so bowl shaped with the buildings and people being at the bottom of the bowl. Rudy's strongest spell, his Saint class water spell is something along the lines of Tempus ______ (The one used that hurt their horse when he was a kid and got him to graduate.) It creates a HUGE storm. Rudy wanted to get out of that situations and not lose his strongest protection, Rujerd. Without Ruijerd, in a dog eat dog Demon Cont. where the turtles are bigger than you and Almond Anaconda's have skin that repel sword strikes and matrix like dodging abilities, the chance of the 2 children, even these 2, surviving long is very small. Rudy wanted to save Eris and in that moment realized "none of this other shit matters, I have to get Eris home and if you are going to create huddles for that and risk us losing our ability to make money so we can travel to another town... i'll just get rid of all the other things that don't matter". Rudy is a chant-less spell-caster. He starting willing his strongest spell to life in order to fill up the entire bowl that is that city with a storm and kill literally everyone in order to silence and rid himself of the problem that would prevent Eris from being able to go home. Ruijerd sensed this quickly and came up with a better solution. In Rudeus's defense, he had been under a ton of mental stress up to this point and was tired, this was his "well fuck it... idc anymore" moment. Also Eris must protect! Its here that you realize that there are things Rudy is wiling to do for the sake of a goal. And that's what made Ruijerd see him on an adult level instead of a child.
Actually, I'd say from the perspective of Rudeus, who were on ground zero, it was nearly impossible to suspect the blast would reach Roa, not to mention BUena village. Just from the plains to Roa is like 30 miles, 5 times more than the blast radius of a Nuke. Of course Rudeus wouldn't expect anyone else get caught.
Rudy should've known the blast hit Roa though. Roa was ground zero, as the orb was directly over the town like we see in episode 7. The blast expanded outwarded to them from the town. The anime just chose not to draw in the town for some strange reason, when it's even included in the original trailer. It's understandable his shock temporarily blinds him, but I think at this point he should've put the pieces together.
@@paulwin9036 The orb was directly above Roa. So, the blast logically hit Roa first and expanded out towards them. The blast did not land in the middle of nowhere like you seem to be thinking, it made impact directly on the town. Re-watch episode 7 and/or watch the original Mushoku trailer if you aren't convinced. Also, where are you getting 30 miles?
The same spell that accidentally almost killed Paul's horse was almost used to brutally murder the horse face guy....and most of a city. Thankfully Ruijerd stepped in and helped Rudeus stick to the "Don't kill" stance, and keep Rudeus from becoming a symbol of terror. Also like how the redhood snake fight showcased a major issue magic has in this world, the more powerful creatures are too quick to easily hit them with it. Also the after credit scene for this was nice and big hype. End of Cour 1~
I was going to comment on this too. Because of Ruigerd's third eye, he could tell the amount of Mana that Rudy was channeling, and knew that he was about ready to destroy the entire city to save Eris.
@@Book_Cloak I still don't get how one Saint ranked spell alone would have sufficed to destroy one city. I mean, those who have read the novels know that when Rudy uses the King ranked upgrade of this spell on Fighting God during the final war arc, it does not destroy the nearby city, even though its power is apparent to everyone present there. The only thing that Rudeus ever uses that can destroy an entire city is what he uses against Dragon God in their second battle. That thing destroys half the forest. I mean that one spell he uses after the King ranked water spell and the Emperor ranked spell Absolute Zero.
@@stefanstepanovic3245 The most he ever put in a spell of that type was when he cast the King ranked Lightning spell on the Fighting God. That was not natural disaster level since it did not destroy the entire city. What you are talking about can likely only be done using God ranked spells. Although God ranked spells can do much more than destroy cities. They can even destroy an entire continent.
27:50 Regarding Rudy apologizing about his “childish schemes” and how that wording “is like a play of manipulation onto Rujierd being like (he) knows how Rujierd looks at things”: Well, in Japanese, he doesn’t literally use the word “childish” which could make it seem like manipulation, as you said. It was a translation choice. What he said was more like, “because of my naive way of thinking of things” (“Jibun no amaeta kangaeta sei de” 「自分の甘えた考えた所為で」. The word “amai” means “naive,” but you could interpret that as “childish.” If he really wanted to play on Ruijerd’s softness for children, he would have said something like, “kodomopoi kangae” 子供ぽい考え, which means “childish way of thinking.”

@@Lionimia That is true. You should watch your preferred language option. But I do wish they did a better job of translating and editing better. Sometimes the phrases they choose for localization can give misleading, erroneous, confusing, or downright wrong meanings. That being said, it’s pretty amazing that they can stream these subbed anime the same time as they are being released here in Japan.
FYI: There was an aftercredit scene in this episode since it was the last one for this part1 of the anime but it's not important to the plot so I guess not much is lost. Part 2 has 12 episodes and an OVA (chronologically between ep16 and 17 but should only be watched after ep17 or after 24 to not break the flow of the series).
So little fun fact. The three groups were in the forest on 3 separate quests. The Pig guy's group was there to kill a strong monster that appeared. The Toughs were there to collect the eggs of a strong monster that appeared. And Dead End was there to investigate rumors of a strong monster in the area. Since Dead End's quest could still be fulfilled even if the monster was dead they decided to tail the Toughs to protect them. Also Rudy's Stone Cannons are so precisely controlled that he basically turns them into hollowpoint rounds with fire filling the center effectively firing telephone pole sized missiles at enemies. He also adds rifling and spin to them meaning they are absurdly op.
Great reaction and discussions as usual. If there is a tiny thing about Rudy that I would like to correct that I don't think you guys have fully realized yet then it's that Rudy has absolutely no self-esteem. He is always very harsh and his own worst critic when we hear his thoughts. So when he says "childish schemes" it's not an attempt to manipulate Ruijerd but rather to show how pathetic and useless he thinks himself and his struggles to be. This is a very important aspect of his character since this forced humbleness is what he took on himself all the way back in episode 1 when he set out to truly try to live and try as hard as possible at his second chance in life. Whenever he usually gets a tiny bit arrogant or even ahead of himself it is always himself who admonishes him for getting cocky and not anyone else - hell everyone else even tells him on multiple occasions that he can be more cocky for his skills etc. so him holding down those temptations is a very huge merit of his character. Sometimes his humbleness even actively hurts other characters as well - as was the case when he got on Roxy's level when she was still his teacher and yet insisted on calling her master. He came from a place of gratefulness and respect but to her it felt like she hadn't truly earned that at that time. In short, Rudy has to be very careful where he is on the humble-arrogant scale all the time throughout the entire series since neither extreme is very good to be at. Also, this is why "pride" seems so foreign to him as an emotion to value so highly when Ruijerd tells him about what it means to be a warrior to him. Rudy hasn't had anything to feel prideful about for literally decades. He only felt shame, regret and disappointment of himself. So when Ruijerd talks about being prideful about something he values - in a positive way! - then it truly hits Rudy just how foreign that feeling and emotion is to him. However even if he can't fully internalize what Ruijerd truly feels, he kinda gets what Ruijerd means since he feels happy to be acknowledged by him at the end.
just some added info. This was the finale of this arc. Audiences had to wait half a year for the next episode. If you look back on the ending, it did have a feel that this was the end for now. Especially with that gorgeous sky as the three shook hands. :]
Glad you are noticing the subtleties in the fighting animation. I hold this anime in high regards because of its attention to detail, and you can find this in every fight scene. The Light Novel is quite detailed with a lot of emphasis on strategy when it comes to combat, but the anime doesn't have time for it. So instead they make it real-time with strategies and techniques implemented seamlessly in high paced action sequences.
I was going to support on Patreon for next episode but 10$ for full length reactions is kinda lame ngl. In the country i live thats like a days worth of wage. I guess i will stay following on RU-vid. Good video.
Of course with a world this fleshed out there are really good maps online. But be careful looking them up since some detail all that happens in S1-2. Really puts their journey into perspective.
In the Teleportation Incident, it covered an area larger than Germany, if I got the map scale comparisons right. And it was visible to Shirone because the world is flat. Shirone is as far from Fittoa as San Diego is from Newfoundland.
Roxy can't cast that spell in a city because it destroys crops, damages buildings and the lightning can be lethal. Rudy, with a beginner's wand, 5 years ago, makes a more powerful Cumulonimbus on his FIRST try. Rudy doesn't try to flex on people, so the show doesn't display his power very often. But you bet your sweet ass that Rudy could ABSOLUTELY wipe an entire city off the map.
Didn't think I'd ever see the day I'd listen to a discussion on an anime for 50 minutes every week. I just need to hear more about this show and these 2 do a cracking job doing just that. Looking forward to them getting into the 2nd cour 👌
Yeah you guys should search the map. As a novel reader I printed a map for myself and I've seen people on reddit label their maps. It's actually pretty nice having one. It's good to know that the demon continent is on the very East side and they're currently north as well, heading southward. I think they do show a map in the anime in a few episodes but's it's always nice to have one yourself.
I remember reading the novels where it said Rudy was able to fire that powerful shot because of him experimenting with some sort of earth or rock bullets where he transformed or carved it into an optimal shape
If anyone wants a good laugh, look up the picture of what nokopara looks like in the light novel. He looks so derpy lol. The anime did such a good job making him actually look like a horse.

So it's not that they died from it, it's more like where did they end up and did they survive
It was pretty scary to see Rudy smiling so warmly while very seriously preparing to wipe a city off the map. Not even as an idle threat, but a realistic application of the scale his magic has reached.
4:14 Parties, not guilds. It’s all *one* guild: The Adventurer’s Guild. And no, they don’t need 3 parties for it, it was a booking mistake. Multiple requests made by multiple people that all happen to be the same job, or at least in the same area.
13:15 Technically, it’s inaccurate to say that it killed people. It would be more accurate to say that it *lead* to their deaths, because all it did was teleport them. Some people were teleported to dangerous places, or even in walls, the ocean, the sky, etc.(Rudy and Eris were teleported to the sky and Rudy used wind magic to slow their descent before passing out and meeting Man God, but the anime skipped that part) but it didn’t *directly* kill anyone.
"they're all women." no they're not we just don't talk about the men because theyre not the important ones. Paul was sent off just like everyone else in the region was and he's as scattered as everyone else is but you didnt mention that.
If you look up "Mushoku Tensei World Map", there is a really good official map that was in the Light Novel (colored by fans) with location names. Might be a bit spoilery because it shows all the locations that season 1 mentions. But if you don't pay much mind to name-spoilers, its a really useful thing to have to actually visualize the world. I forget which volume had this map. I want to say it was volume 4, which is around episode 13 or 14. So feel free to indulge yourself in the worldbuilding with the help of this map.
The reason not everyone is missing is because not everyone got teleported to the same place, some got teleported closer, some got teleported to places where it's easier to come back from (trade towns or what not), and some probably got teleported into the core of a volcano is something, not everyone is equally lucky.

Paul was also transported. He was also cought on it. he was just the one to have the means to write about it. Everyone and everything on the radius was affected.
