100% retired flatbedder approved! Meaning, I wouldn't be scared shitless passing you. And I would be passing, because (no offense) your guys trucks were/are kind of slow. I know TMC have their way, being that flat is all they do, and they do teach the correct way. There is no such thing as undersecurement! I got taught stick lumber, and had to learn the rest from "the old fellas", who taught me right. I ran flat in my 40's but when I hit 50, I went to the box, because I was kind of scared of falling and breaking a hip. Oh I did love it though! Even though I was a girl, when they saw I was squared away, it was all cool. The comradery is like no other part of trucking, too. It's not altruistic, the faster you get the guy ahead of you rolled up, the faster you get out and the line moving. I'll be riding along with you as long as you stay on YT! Pro tip: If you're around any dry van guys that haul roll paper, ask if they have any rubber mats left that they throw down to prevent sliding. They are the bomb for strap and chain protection and anti skid for the deck, and don't take up too much room in the side box (which, if you're squared away, is chock-full of various load protective items! Be safe, Brother!

Thanks for the cosign on my securement technique. 😅 The company trucks are relatively slow. We used to be maxed at 62 mph but fortunately they governed the fleet at 65 now so now we're not holding up traffic as bad anymore. 😂 I agree with you that there is some comradery amongst flatbeders. Guys will help you fold your tarps or give you securement tips even if you're with different companies. It's a great thing. I'll keep an eye out for those rubber mats too. I appreciate you watching my content and am glad that you enjoy it. There will be plenty more to come in the future.

A good start to the securement. Do you throw a padding tarp before the 4 inch straps over the top or after? Also, I'm pretty sure the one commentor was talking about coil mats. TMC gives line haul drivers 10 coil mats as part of the basic set up. Those Worthington plants usually have some extra stuff lying around for stuff like that too.
@EruditeTrucker
@EruditeTrucker 10 месяцев назад
I usually throw my padded tarp after I've placed the straps since the coils don't have a sharp edge where the straps are being used.

@@EruditeTrucker Are you satisfied with TMC condition and paywise? Or did you plan to eventually move on? I know they do have a steady flow of freight, even in the winter when some of the other guys are sitting for days at a time!

@@EruditeTrucker I’ve had that exact load twice. Good job. One of the dedicated guys told me l didn’t have to use metal edge protectors or hog tie, l ignored him and did both lol!
@EruditeTrucker
@EruditeTrucker Год назад
@musclemania30 I'm thankful that you didn't listen to that guy. He was definitely wrong. Edge protectors are mandatory on all metal loads, and the hogtie is meant to keep the coils squeezed together so that they won't fall over. You did the right thing securing the correct and safe way. 🧔🏿👍🏿 Extra securement never hurt anyone. Under-securement has...

@@EruditeTrucker In MT we had this thought, if you roll and your stick lumber load stays on the deck well enough to just put it back on its rubber without a cleanup, you did a good job…

How's it going? Are you concerned about all the regulations coming about soon, as many people are talking about in their videos? I'm very interested in flatbedding with TMC, but kind of leery after hearing a lot of negativity. I think I'd have no problem securing and tarping. I prefer physical work which is why I'd prefer flatbedding instead of just backing into docks. That would be quite boring. Always look forward to your videos. Thanks
@EruditeTrucker
@EruditeTrucker Год назад
I'm not completely aware of all of the new regulations coming down the pipeline. I would need a couple of examples. I would recommend becoming a flatbed driver if you'd like to remain active and stay in shape. I started out with dry van and bumped docks for a while but I love and prefer flatbed. What negative things have you heard?

@@EruditeTrucker Thanks for replying. They are saying the CDL test is going to be much harder, in particular the pre-trip test. And the tracking of your every move. And the cameras trained on your face while driving. They are treating grown adults as children who need every step they make monitored by those who think they know better. I've been working on my own with no supervision for 34 years. That is one of the reasons why I WAS interested in trucking. Not so sure now. All the regulations are very discouraging.
@EruditeTrucker
@EruditeTrucker Год назад
@jaepcam the cameras wouldn't be my favorite thing to have. As of right now, driver facing cameras are optional at tmc. The company's want to reduce their liability for accidents with the cameras. I'm not sure about the other new regulations though. Overall, the trucking industry is highly regulated already. Some of it is helpful to the drivers, like ELDs and some things are a nuisance. From my experience, nothing current is derailing my progress, though.
@jaepcam
@jaepcam Год назад
@@EruditeTrucker That's good to know about the cameras. that was my main gripe. The other things I can deal with. I wouldn't actually care if they track the truck. I wouldn't be anywhere I wasn't supposed to be, and it is good for safety reasons. And the government knows where every citizen with a cell phone is or was at any given time. I just don't want a camera in my face. And the test is what it is. I believe I can pass the test. Watching your videos makes me want to do it. Thanks again. I hope you don't mind the questions. Have a good day.
