Award winning novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's stock is set to rise further with the release of the Hollywood treatment of her Orange prize winning novel 'Half of a Yellow Sun'. We speak to the Nigerian author during a visit to the UK.
It was so interesting for an interviewer to reveal personal details about his mother in an interview . Well done Chimamanda, this shows how relaxed and natural she is as a person. Lovely, I enjoyed hearing Jon snow and her converse, would love to have heard more. x
I was bothered by the interrupting too, but I really got the feeling that it was not ill intended. I think he was interested in what she was saying and wanted to know more, keep the conversation going. And she was great like always.
Suzana, I wholeheartedly agree with you... I didn't detect any ill intent on his part & Chimamanda doesn't suffer fools gladly, so she would've shut him down had she felt that he was disrespecting her in any way!
I have never seen Jon Snow so relaxed, mesmerised and personable with anybody in an interview. Probably because his wife is from Zimbabwe. He thought was in a coffee shop chatting and chilling :-D
OMGGGG Jon Snow! She cant even get a sentence out without you interrupting. We don't want to hear what you have to say, we are interesting in what SHE has to say.
Typical racist old yte man. The way he was trying to hype of interracial relationships as mysterious and exotic lol, there is nothing exotic or mysterious about yte people that any other race needs to find out.
Maybe it's because he's intrigued by her, she does have an aura about her. Confident, intelligent, elegant and beautiful. John Snow's second wife is African too.
@@Mitchieboo1970 ... that's exactly what I was going to say... You can see that Chimamanda didn't take any offence by it & that he seemed to be mesmerised by her, even at the end, when he's back in the studio, you can see by his smile that it was a fond memory for him... I think he was definitely enthralled by her... I mean... who isn't?! She's amazing!
Y'all need to relax with the Jon Snow critics. This is not disrespect. His job is to control the flow of the convo. I think she was perfectly at ease and able to express herself.
Reading the comment section before going into the video had me thinking He would be cutting her off and be overall dismissive. But Jon Snow just seemed really excited and engaged, like a regular conversation. Yes, he jumped in a beat too early but he had intelligent questions.
the hair convo with this staunch british man made le laugh a bit I have read both americanah and half of yellow sun.. and they were amazing, honest in their simplicity and bold in observation. its really refreshing to have this African female voice in our times
She's fabulously smart, intelligent, ( yes there is a difference,) so very self possessed, and beautiful. She also talks about things that the African American woman cannot broach, or chooses not to.
The fact that they cast a mixed girl for Half of a Yellow Sun's Olanna annoys me. Like she looks nothing like Olanna was described I think Munachi Abii would have been the best actress to portray Olanna.
I went natural in March this year and I've never felt so much in love with myself like I do now🥰 I feel like a queen when i show people that i don't care what they think of me i have my natural 4c no straightening👌 😁😁😁😁
You go! I had long locks and cut them off last year - me and my daughter, we cut our locks off and have had an afro ever since - March/Apr 2020. We love it! And we have loved learning about our hair, how to care for it properly so it will stay moist and grow.. things I never knew growing up.. she's only 13, but as a young black woman, it's important for her to not be ashamed of her natural fro, and she's not! She wears it out anyhow! I could go on.. we lived our locks, but nothing beats having your natural hair out 🥰😍🥰
I don't know why people think Jon was intentionally interrupting her because she's black Me I think he liked her so much. You could see in Jon's eyes as if he can't seem to get enough of Chima. He is even telling her about his mother. I think it was a way of flirting with chima
As an American growing up, I never looked at magazines for what was important in women’s hair and style. I had curly/wavy hair and now I’m in my 30s with natural silver and brown curly/wavy hair
Very true . Why is it that African female law students are told only to present and go for moot court only In relaxed hair and wigs but not in their own natural hair? This indicates a sign of racism in the English law itself. Please I need an answer from #Chimamanda Ngozi please 🙏🏾
Oh come on, you Zee One and others are just being discriminatory against whites and John Snow. The guy is listening and interipting as a friend would in an eager conversation, not only does he bring up area of interest I.e the hair and smiles but when the interview has ended he is still smiling and makes a jovial comment. He even gives private information out on air as part of the 'chat'. Stop trying to make something out of nothing! He is known for being one of the most open minded lefties in the country.
Visited Johannesburg on 2017. Saw nothing but straight hair, weaves, and extension on a lot sisters there. A little disappointing because I wasn't expecting it, but they were all so beautiful ❤️proud and doing extremely well. Most black Americans have no clue how bad black people had it in South africa. the apartheid wasn't the beginning of it. It went on for centuries. Thanks to the Nelson Mandela he saved the day and livelihood of black South africans!
I would like to know if this journalist talks over all his guests like this, or if he feels more comfortable talking over her because she's a black woman.
Esse Quia you can still be a bigot and be married to a race you hate or dislike in order to fulfill your agenda against the ppl you hate/dislike. That spouse will end up being apart of the process and don’t even know it. Or maybe they do know about it but remain silent just to stay accepted or relevant in their circle! So his wife being black is no big deal! He can still be a bigot.
So marrying a black person doesn't mean that you're not a racist, but interrupting one means that you likely are. Do you people have any idea what logic is?
She says the standard of "beutiful hair" is straight not afro, but I think her her style is stunning, it's just so classy and lady-like that I don't think anybody would have a problem with it, plus she's a beautiful woman, gosh I love her class and the way she speaks never raising her voice but with such a presence that makes people listen. By the way, I think the interviewer was fine, he was engaging and enjoying their conversation, she was enjoying herself as well, if he would only ask questions and let her do all the talking it would feel like he didn't give a damn...
I feel sorry for her that he just does not get the point. A lot of work still has to be done on this topic...Americanah a first step to deconstruct Western ideal of beauty
Absolutely, and especially the hair issue, right from the start of the book when she is traveling such a long way to get her hair braided, gosh this book is just , its a conversation for the entire day
An African woman makes a statement to the world ... By the way she chooses to wear her hair !!......!!! That is the only statement ,that cannot be taken away from her period !!!!!
I think the most ridiculous thing in Half a yellow sun, was casting a mixed race person and a black person ad twins. I know Thandie Newton had a tan/dark make-up, at the start if the film - but it was purely foolish.
Leave our mukwasha(in-law) alone, Jon did a wonderful job. This was a conversation, it didn't feel like an interview to me. I felt I was eavesdropping into an interesting conversation that I had the good luck to come across.
I could care less about hair style. If they can do the job and their resume backs them up with no lies on their resume then hire them asap! But the flip side if the political hair violates safety rules for job that could be dangerous then yes do not hire them or demand either they cut their hair or take care of their hair in a manner that will satisfy the safety requirements.
Hair is absolutely political. Conservative styles, avant garde styles, natural color vs bleached blonde or pink/purple/blue, urban styles, rural styles, high maintenance or low maintenance, natural Afro or straightened. With chemicals, women can do almost anything with their hair. Cultures and sub-cultures have norms. Remember the Beetles hair cuts, the journey between 1950s conservative to 1960s flower power and free love long hair.
I every culture and color for woman hair is a statement who they are. For the Hopi tribe they had a styl that the younger would wear and when the became a woman it changed but was the same as the older woman. Our mothers and aunties taught us who we were and who we belonged. Braids and corn rolls were for every one at a time in history. We belonged to a tribe that belonged to a nation of other tribes.
Feminists: Women and men should be able to speak equally *Man who is host asks questions* Feminists: Man no speak in interview! only let woman talk. Man no get to say anything!
Very interesting observation ,why was the flag of US bigger and bolder than the Nigerian flag ?She is Nigerian .right ..at the beginning ,then they think they realised and made it similarly equal
There is only one race the human race ,there are different cultures and nations and tribes but only one race.CHRIST died for our sins according to the Scriptures was buried and rose again on the third day according to the Scriptures 1CORINTHIANS 15:3-4
I think if she thought he was being rude she would have checked him respectfully like she has done other interviewers ...particularly French reporters ...frankly though it did bother me that he kept interrupting, but none the less I love her and yes our hair is political 😬😬💁♀️
