Since I first listened to this lady, I have ever longed to listen to her again and again. So eloquent. Really an organized speaker. Extremely brilliant. I am very proud of her.
As an educator and as a human being I appreciate Ms. Adichie for her insights into both. I could listen to her speak and tell stories for hours on end and feel I would be better for it. Thank you.
she is from Nigeria, not South Africa. Nevertheless, her messages and advice are true in every country and culture. She is so inspiring! Good luck to you!
I wonder if south Africa is in Africa..If so then why do you kili other Africans but let Indians, whites,Arabs and more living freely without intimidation?
This reminds me of my father who was not any professor, but was a meticulous record keeper. All of my 19 siblings had their individual files, filled with all records of our lives.
19? Aba why This doesn’t sound right Guess it was a polygamous home and such homes are nothing to write home about so spare us and let’s listen to someone from a proper structured home
A woman of virtue, I salute you. One thing I learnt about Chimamanda is being herself and sincere about her life, part of which she has interwoven in all her talks. These made her speeches unique interesting and educating. Words she speaks flows undiluted from experience. The idea of being a science is an issue really that has deny many the potentials in them. You have spoken so much about many things with life stories. Thank you for sharing.
Well said! She embraces all good and not so good about her life and shows how it all played a part in shaping her into the woman she’s now...self acceptance 😎
That was brilliant and the speech is pregnant with meaning to anyone who is academic and smart enough to go deeper with analysis and learn all the critical facts of the presentation. That is exactly what writers do. They hardly let go of painful facts in society and the world around them.
Sis! I adore you. God's creations are impeccable. You are really endowed with wealth of knowledge. What could I have said! You told us,never wait, go ahead and tell some one what you admire when the person is alive and there you are from Uganda.
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie!! A very gifted intellectual Lady! I indorse her with positive accreditation to be one of the current and future great leader in any country as her Brain faculty size fits all!
Intellect with class and character. Please remain like that. I wish other people would learn form you that education without character is no education. I profoundly admire you Chimamanda.
Hi Chima, I really felt connected and good to see someone like me commanding such respect being filled with such intelligence, confidence and eloquence. I really relate with you and I had always felt weird but I now understand those feelings are real and geniune though never saw it as being feminist which is very much needed in our society today. I have this strong feeling of writing which I dredg so much and keep ignoring because I don't read as much as I should but I am learned. My daughter is 9, loves reading and writing, has been writing some little pieces and I am really looking for a publisher or a children's writing club or anything that can guide her.
Like you Chimamanda an I have endured the same thing. I was mistaking for disrespectful for just wanting to know more and asking questions, therefore, I have forgiven those teachers.
We need more of you. I love your humility, your morals and everything about you and iam 55 yrs old woman, still wishing you can cover the whole Africa continents. Love you dearly
I'm always pleased to listen to this amazingly intellectual eloquence of Chimamanda. so helpful, I've read three of her novels ( Half of a Yellow Sun, Americanah and Purple Hibiscus ). Can't wait to read the others.
Melanie Queen. I imagine you effortlessly made so many people in that audience very uncomfortable. Yet, we must continuously engage for a better world.
As a black person, I believe the biggest task that African-Americans will ever face is defining a clear boundary between racism and just mere insecurity because both ideologies are a reality.
A child can have many friends but only one set of parents and teachers To behave as a friend to a child may not set the correct boundaries for later life. That is why I suppose children and youngsters nowadays behave in that boorish way and it is fashionable to show the finger to your teachers and parents In India there is a age old tradition that parents come first than teachers than God or Guru Sadly in India too by apeing the West we are deteriorating Totally agree with this Speaker Africa and India seem to have much in common
EACH WORD FROM YOUR MOUTH IS INCREDIBLY UPLIFTING. NGBE ONYE BINIRI BU UTUTU YA. THAT IGBO WORDS HAS REALLY BROUGHT ME BACK FROM FRUSTRATION OF NOT HAVE BEEN ACHIEVED MY DREAMS YET . THANK FOR MAKING EVERYONE PROUD MOST ESPECIALLY YOUR PARENT.
My first son ask a lot of questions. He wants to know why things are done they way they are. I get frustrated and when he argues, i call it disrespect. Hearing you speak has got me thinking, how to answer him or direct his questioning.
How I sum up your speech is that integration with whites is bad for black people. This is coming from an African-American. I have a very bright son and I told his teacher I could see him becoming a scientist or a doctor. The teacher tried to correct me and say a mechanic. So you see these things that they say and do are very methodic, strategic and purposeful. So I think that black teachers would be the best for black children because they would care more about their education and encourage them not discourage them. How can you expect someone who is competing with you to help put you on a level playing field? When they were teaching my son math he didn’t get it. But when I taught him he got it. If you are not careful these teachers can actually unlearn what you have taught your child. You will notice a skill that you sharpened in them prior to starting school start to diminish the longer they are in the system. It is important to check in with what they are being taught and how it is being taught, and to give your perspective and teach your own black children.
Oh thst file. My dad has it till date. He's 80 and his youngest child is in her early 30s 😊 So sweet that kind of upbringing we had - yes in my family, education IS a moral obligation. How dare you not get it right? Hahahahaa. Thanks dad and mum.
Secularism is racist because it segregates people on the basis of skin colour or ethnicity. In America it’s a black and white issue. Actually there are many shades of skin colour depending on the latitude that your ancestors lived which results in the level of pigmentation of your skin. Ancestral attitudes to the importance of organizing and efficiency are also determined to a large extent by the growing season in the latitude you are from. There are no blacks or whites, we are all different shades of brown.
You are a remarkable speaker. Your speech will awake many young future leaders. Africa is rich for the natural resources it has but only few are enjoying it's wealth. Two of the biggest problems are the lack of man power and the technology to acquire the natural resources. Until these problems are addressed and resolved the problems in Africa will never be solved. I am proud of the wonderful talks you have given so far. Keep up the good fights and one-day we will succeed.
0;48 honestly i love the way she admits, because of her fathers and mothers position in the university she got a good education and it led to where she is today, many young people and African speakers are bragging that they are self made or self taught, how?
I know all about being disrespectful when you are just being innocently curious and looking for an intellectual and rational reasoning behind your questions.
I had the same experiences from my Teachers in my little Caribbean schools, they knew who we were as children/people, still think of/grateful to them!🥳
Lady, I tell you I love who you become! if you want to know about the value and the worth of real Africans, please learn about Ethiopians history; which stand for the right of a black and dark sikined nation around the world !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love you Sis !
No, that is not what I meant, there are no fake Africans. However, when it comes to Ethiopian they are the only African and amongest other countries who has not been ever colonized; therfore they have kept all there original cultures, values and languages. Despite the current globlization, and exploitation. catastrophy.
I thought of having a group of mothers of this children, to create a voice for them but I was helpless. Thank you madam Chimamanda, for speaking my inner voice. Yes some teachers do dehumanize their innocent kindergarten and first graders mind and future.
