Perhaps connected to the Spanish “camino” for “way, path”

"Cheminée" sounds like an obvious derivative of "chemin" (path) in French as well, so I always thought of it as the 'smoke's pathway'.

Waita second, I thought chamb/cama meant bed, so chambre/camera was like a place with a bed.
