You probably already know this, but foreign aids almost never comes free. As a Chinese person myself, I can say that the Chinese government is certainly helping the African nations in exchange for something political (that the peoples of both Africa and China would not know). Maybe it’s simply for political alliance, or maybe it’s some other more specific political/economic policies and deals. But whatever those politicians do, I hope the African people are never harmed in the process. I hope it creates a win-win situation and brings prosperity back to Africa’s great continent. JLhannah24 attaching political conditions to aid to African is typical Western mindset. The Chinese are there to do business - they offer what they have, i.e. infrastructure construction, factories, technical training, for what they want - minerals, oils, other raw materials etc. it is a trade, which benefits both parties (of course there is possible ripoff, but business anyways) and not the so-called aid with political agenda behind it.

It's the USA that's constantly making threats, imposing sanctions no other country supports and interfering in other countries affairs. China already has considerable investments around the world, including the USA, so a war isn't something they need to expand their earnings. The USA has virtually no manufacturing industry left besides their protected military suppliers, and has squandered billions on illegal wars that could have been spent fixing their crumbling infrastructure. China also has many many biogas digesters that are turning manure into natural gas. Pretty much if it can be done then it is happening in China in a big way! One thing that blew my mind while visiting Sichuan is the irrigation system that they have! Wow now that took some real forethought and loads and loads of hard work. I checked the Chinese materials. Since the 1970s, 12 geothermal power stations have been built in mainland China. However, due to some reasons such as operation and benefits, only three power stations are still in operation, two of which are located in Tibet. A power station is located in Hebei near Beijing. The above three currently have a total installed capacity of 27.28MW, ranking 18th in the world (2014). In China's thirteenth “five-year plan”, it is expected to increase the installed capacity to 500MW (2020), but there are related people. Indicates that there is difficulty in achieving this goal. At present, the slow development of geothermal power generation in China is mainly due to the limited technical level, and it is hoped that it will cooperate more with the Nordic countries in the future. (The above is translated by Google, I hope I can express it clearly)

As a member of future Chinese generation, I would say there are always some problems with one dominant party government. However, one big advantage of this governance system is that the nation can stick to a great goal if they want, no matter it takes 5 years or 50 years. This is how the Chinese Taoist civilized this nation two thousands years ago, and is also the faith we are dedicated to over centuries.

@@chursoocheng4044 China went to war against Vietnam in February 1979 with 400,000 soldiers (and lost!). Why? Because Vietnam had just invaded Cambodia and deposed Pol Pot. Great to see China making great advances with hydro, wind and solar energy. Sad to see the Chinese also building new coal, fossil fuel and nuclear plants too. Thankfully, the huge advances and cost reductions for renewable energy will mean that China's expansion to lead the world on renewables, will mean the continued growth of wind, hydro and solar.

Do agree nuclear has potential danger, way much than solar/wind/sea. While on the other hand, nuclear seems to be the only clean source (so far) to have both high capacity & stable output, thus less depended on storage like solar panels do. Guess nuclear will take a position in the jigsaw of energy solution.

Thank you, and I hope everything is fine in America. Paperless office has been realized, Chinese rarely write nowadays, it will not be a problem. Most of the engineers can speak English. Even if not very fluent orally, but at least can understand, mutual communication is no problem. Chinese respect well-educated people. They'll be nice to you, Even if there are some language barriers. Pinyin is inefficient and inaccurate, and Chinese is a information-intensive language. The efficiency and accuracy of information transmission matters. Greetings from Hangzhou, China.

Quality documentary, I saw some things for the first time, here. China is starting to look like a nation of engineers! If the numbers are right here, it sounds like all the installed solar capacity of the nation (and it's a lot!) still comes out to maybe the output of a single dam or a row of wind turbines.... Much though we love the solar power, it's unfortunately very tenuous.... I guess it gives people something to do, way out there in the desert? I was really surprised at the "dry" cooling tower, which I've never heard of. So, if you want people to move to the desert, offer them cheap electricity!
