My two cents, I praise the reporter for not badgering the athlete after being told they only respond to state media. The repercussions she could face for saying the wrong thing if persistent questions had continued. So no, I wouldn't want to see young athletes from China being pushed any farther with questions than this reporter did.

For those are doubt about Pan still: Since no western media or youtuber will tell you the full story of what happened in 2021 which lead to all this fury, here it goes. >> In 2021 China swimming association held a national gathering, meet of all swimmers in competitive level in a single city. While the swimmers were there, the Chinese Anti Doping Agency (CHINADA) tested all the swimmers 3 times during the duration of the event. They found 23 swimmers with trace amounts of TMZ in 1 of their 3 tests. They promptly started an investigation which determined that the reason only 1 of their 3 tests were positive was because all 23 of these swimmers were staying at the same hotel. Then they checked the kitchen and found trace amounts of TMZ in the meat, in the kitchen counter top and vent hood. All this were reported to WADA. Then WADA did 2 separate investigations of their own which confirmed what was found by CHINADA. So to recap, 1) it was not WADA that did the test but CHINADA, if China wanted to cover it up, they simply could have not reported it at all. No one would be the wiser. 2) The TMZ found was trace amounts and only in their blood test after that meal, their initial blood tests were also completely clear. 3) Pan Zanle was not amongst those 23 swimmers. This whole thing was not an issue until the NY times digged it up and made a stink, then USADA got US congress involved (not sure why since they don't have jurisdiction). Just so everyone will be clear who WADA favors. US pays 10% of WADA budget annually. WADA is based in Canada, has not a single member from China. And, WADA has given last few years, 66% of all Therapeutic Use Exemptions to just 3 countries, USA, France and Australia. Just happens these 3 countries have the most swimming medals. And, all the top US and French swimmer including Leon had severe facial flushing at the end of their race that is a clear side effect of bronchodilators. 4) Most doping tested swim team in Paris was China, that is fact, 6-7 times more than US/Austrilia/Canada/France. And all Chinsese swimmers are clean! Show less
I dont even see the point tbh. Remember the 1936 olympics or whatever in Berlin? It just added jealousy for the Austrian Painter and to some extend Germany. Sure nowadays its not that extreme but I bet there would be similar jealousy in countries thanks to this forsaken "competition".
why did United State Olympic Committee allow Carl Lewis attend Seol Lympic Game after he was discovered dopping? Read the passage following (please be noted all words below are copied from Guadian, not from any Chinese press media:))) : Carl Lewis has broken his silence on allegations that he was the beneficiary of a drugs cover-up, admitting he had tested positive for banned substances but claiming he was just one of "hundreds" of American athletes who were allowed to escape bans. "There were hundreds of people getting off," he said. "Everyone was treated the same." Lewis has now acknowledged that he failed three tests during the 1988 US Olympic trials, which under international rules at the time should have prevented him from competing in the Seoul games two months later. The admission is a further embarrassment for the United States Olympic Committee, which had initially denied claims that 114 positive tests between 1988 and 2000 were covered up. It will add weight to calls by leading anti-doping officials and top athletes for an independent inquiry into the US's record on drug issues. Last week Dr Wade Exum alleged that a ban imposed on Lewis after positive tests for three stimulants had been overturned by the USOC when the athlete said he had ingested them mistakenly in a herbal supplement. Lewis received only a warning after officials ruled that his positive tests were due to "inadvertent" use. Some scientists believe the substances could have been a masking agent for more serious drugs, such as anabolic steroids.
Just recently Chinese swimming star Zhang Yufei Vehemently Denies Cheating Amid Olympics doping scandal. My bias is showing here, but when I read "She said that Chinese athletes have been tested for banned substances 20 to 30 times over the past two months to ensure that they are clean for the Olympics"... I interpet that as "testing to make sure all the substances are out of their system in time".
What’s worse is a lot of these athletes would be really good outside of doping, but because the government cares so much about being the best, they ruined the careers of their own athletes.
Every nation that is getting medals does this to some degree with the doping. I hope nobody actually believes US athletes aren't doing similar things. This ham fisted attempt with the Chinese swim team though is so blatant they couldn't ignore it.
Here are some interesting facts 1) USA athletes have been caught 6x more than Chinese in doping. 2) Chinese swimmers were tested an average of 7 times a day in paris on arrival, including random tests midnight to 2am which completely disrupted their sleep. And imagine who hard is for Pan to swim having needle stuck into his arms that many times for blood draws. 3) Over half of US swimmers, including all the paris gold medal winners are conveniently diagnosed as asthmatics. Which allows for them to legally use bronchodilators which is a stimulant and gives significant advantage in how much air you can breathe in and out. Think trying to breath through a thin straw vs a fat one. 4) The supposed scandal from 2021 where some Chinese swimmers tested positive for a banned heart medicine was cleared by two separate independent investigation. Tests only showed microscopic traces of the medicine. Consistent with contamination.
In recent times, China has had one of the lowest doping rates in the world, on par with Japan and Switzerland. The World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) 2022 Anti-Doping Testing Figures report reveals that 19,228 anti-doping tests were conducted in China, resulting in a 0.2% violation rate, similar to Japan's 5,706 tests with 0.2% violation rate. In contrast, 6,782 samples were tested in the US with a 1.2% violation rate, and 10,186 samples were tested in Russia with a 0.8% violation rate.[4] The violation rate in the US amongst all athletes in 2022 was thus 6 times the rate of that of China and Japan. In the first place, the controversy over the Tokyo 2020 doping incident was already cleared by WADA, and subsequently by an independent Swiss prosecutor, as well as a World Aquatics audit. The US has no business to unilaterally conduct it's own investigation and disrespect the Olympic Council. I believe the whole hoohah was in the first place orchestrated by the US, and the absurdity of the US Congress and Dept of Justice stepping in to meddle in sports, clearly shows that it means to discredit and demonise China out of geopolitical reasons. This agenda is evident in the light of it's having passed a budget of usd500million solely for the purpose of spreading negative disinformation about China. Congratulations, USA. Looks like you didn't waste your money and efforts. Truth and justice however will ultimately prevail. Some counterpoints: The NYT coverage of this case buried a critical fact: it was the Chinese gov itself, through chinADA (an agency of the General Sports Administration), that initially reported the positive results to WADA. This contradicts the narrative of a "cover up for national pride." If the Chinese gov intended to hide these results, why would they report any positives at all? By burying this fact, and by liberal use of suggestive language like like "cover up" it leaves readers with the false impression that the Chinese gov did not even share the very information that enabled us to learn of the existence of these results. The NewYork Times also leaves out the highly relevant fact that in 2019, Tygart told the NYT "he believed that ‘no fault’ cases like when tainted food, water, or medicine is ingested accidentally, should not be a violation or be publicly announced.’" So, to the extent that there was "norm" of provisional disqualification and public disclosure, the head of USADA was publicly advocating against that norm on behalf of American athletes, the same norm he's now faulting WADA for not enforcing against Chinese athletes. Newyork Times coverage also fails to mention a most bizarre incident from yesterday: USADA reportedly called up the American 4x200 relay team to tell that, falsely, they were being upgraded to gold
Remember Chinese Dictator Mao? Here's what he did: - He renounced ancient chinese culture, including Confucius and Buddhism, which value kindness and tolerance. - He eliminated all intellectuals, land owners and rich and famous people. - He demanded the youths to condemn their parents and neighbors publicly, usually in front of a crowd. - What he had left were uneducated laborers, poor peasants and mean youths. *Those are the ancestors of the current mainland chinese today*

I think, the USA and other allies should press the investigation and then drag the IOC on the world stage if they refuse to answer for these doping problems. Don't let them keep it under wraps or behind closed curtains, megaphone this to the world. The Olympics is supposed to be the pinnacle of human body achievements, not a competition for dope heads.

I can’t blame China, they understand how feeble they are when compared to Americans in physicalities. They need performance enhancers so they can at least hope to get bronze when facing an American.
Can anyone explain then why China is the most tested team and STILL have one of the lowest percentages of doping violations? While team USA has done 1/3 of the number of samples that China has done yet they have 6 times the doping violations than China? Team USA are allowed to use asthma meds and anytime a Chinese athlete wins over them they'll accuse them of doping even though the said Chinese athlete is being tested 5 or 6 times more than Team USA and the results are that the athlete did not check for any illegal substances? Because 1. The number of Chinese athletes is huge, 2. out of all these countries, the Chinese traditionally win the greatest number of medals, especially gold medals, 3. Over the recent decades China has a less-than-flattering track record of keeping its athletes clean, perhaps second only to Russia when it comes to state-sponsored doping.
@@ironlionzion1380 1. In the 2024 Olympics THE CHINESE team were tested at least 7-9 times a day while team USA was tested 5 times a week. THE NUMBER of Chinese athletes at each Olympic is around the same as THE number of team USA, so your point is invalid. 2. "out of all these countries, the Chinese traditionally win the greatest number of medals, especially gold medals" OUT of all countries USA tends to win the most gold medals every year so that point is invalid. 3. even IF they try that hard to cover it up their results would not have came out at only 0.2% with such a high number of tests Team USA urged them to do increased amount of tests to the Chinese and even told them to do them in the middle of the night to disrupt the sleep schedule of Chinese people. LOOK at the data yourself and tell me that there's not a big enough suspicion that USA who according to many, have more advanced tech than China and how USA couldn't cover up their athletes failed doping tests despite having 1/3 of the doping tests the Chinese did. If the great USA can't hide it then I doubt China can hide the doping tests especially since they are being tested against vigorously. Unfortunately, the Chinese do not operate on the notion of individual achievements, but that the achievement of one is 'rightfully so because of their society' as a whole. If a Chinese athlete won a gold medal at the Olympics, they would be quick to claim that it was the Chinese nation that uplifted this athlete to greatness. If they lose, they would be quick to relegate that athlete into the lost and forgotten citizens of Chinese society.

The Olympics isn't even worth watching. Doping, a man beating the hell out of a woman in boxing, the travesty of the opening ceremony...how far it has fallen.
The IOC also threatened to pull the 2028 Summer Olympics out of Los Angeles. SLC, LA, and the USA should unilaterally call the IOC's bluff and let them find other host cities on short notice. Doped Chinese athletes are not new. The same thing happened with Chinese runners in the early 1990s. There were a few hi-profile woman's distance runners who ran world records that were later voided (and the runners disqualified from international competitions) as they were found to be on Performance Enhancing Drugs. You can find the information on the web.
A lot of places don't even want to host the Olympics anymore. Unless it's going to be Beijing again and again. If the IOC truly goes through with it, the US and its friends should just create their own games and call them "the real Olympic games", cause Greece will be in it.

David Popovici did not lose fair and square. The Chinese swimmer was doped up and threatened with the gulag unless he brought home a cheated medal. It's only about the prestige for the CCP, never the sportsmanship.
This is like in the past when all athletes had to be unpaid amateur athletes. Russia, Cuba and other rouge countries completely ignored this rule winning many metals while the Olympics looked the other way. Guess it time to either get tough or change the rule on doping.

Lewis has now acknowledged that he failed three tests during the 1988 US Olympic trials, which under international rules at the time should have prevented him from competing in the Seoul games two months later.
Gold medal stolen from South African swimmer, but no one should be surprised anymore. Just hope you compete in an event the Chinese government doesn't partake in and you might have relatively fair chance to win.

"WADA also exposed a scheme that allowed US athletes who had committed doping violations to compete without sanctions for years. WADA noted that this practice is a blatant violation of the World Anti-Doping Code and the US Anti-Doping Agency's own regulations."
