Isn't it because most of the games that got killed in 2-3 years are hot garbages designed to siphon as much money before going EoS? They'd die even if 10cent leaves them alone. The games created with passion and quality like Girls Frontline, Arknights, Azur Lane... won't die no matter how much 10cent "pressures" them.

It is nice that Asmongold quickly corrected the ignorant post of one user in his stream that said Journey to the West is a rip off of dragon ball Z lol. Son Goku is basically based on Wukong the monkey king. Just goes to show how ignorant some people are nowadays. A lot of Japanese games in the past actually are based on Chinese Literatures because they share a common ancestry.

Correction... Dragon ball's goku was based on Monkey king and story before martial tournaments had similar themes and characters. However by Dragon ball Z it wasn't even close to Journey to the west. That means I don't have to buy from a country run by an evil dictatorship trying to prop up Putin and steal Taiwan while threatening the west regularly. Gamers nowadays are such uninformed consumers, they'll buy products from people that literally want to kill them. Guess it's human nature as people buy drugs despite knowing what the mexican cartels, drug gangs and islamic extremists are like etc. I remember when the Ukraine war happened and people were still bigging up Atomic Hearts shamelessly. If anyone has ever watched SsethTzeentach 's videos playing chinese made games that involve chinese culture/myths, the biggest issue is exactly that, their culture. It's way too... nonsencical? As in it's steeped in inside-cultural-references that no one outside of chine could even begin to understand wtf is going on, because it's a one chaotic mess on religious superstitions, feng-shui, traditional medicine, historical figures both real and fake, references to books, references to references of references etc etc. and there is no attempt to explain or open anything up. When foreign game companies had to do localization in China, local staffs legaly had to comply with the party and steal business info from them. But how is that going to be organized u ask? well since a few years ago, all companies are required to had a party member on board as board of directors, so the party knows what to look for when certain infomations are key to the business. I see no problem with cloning. Its been happening for literally all human history. One tribe saw a bow and arrow, and do you think they will not use it because of ethics and then try and create their own weapons? No. If it works, and they can re create it, they will. That is not a problem. As long as you provide greate customer service and upgrades, you will still be on top. This is what companies should do instead of complaining and whining. You can't escape copies of good ideas. Also many people get the same ideas for so many things and just because one person made it first shouldn't restrict another person in some other place to create something very similar. Ideas have major limits and can only go so far. Often similar ideas are born when 2 people who are completely isolated see a specific problem or are influenced in a similar way. There have been studies of this. For example, in one study, they got a few artists and drove them through the city without telling them why they are doing it. Then they asked the artists to paint a picture. Guess what happened? Most of the artists end up painting a very very similar painting of the things that were placed on rout specifically to catch their attention. All of the artists thought their painting was original to them and was their own thoughts expressed.

Cloning does not necessarily mean getting the same result. Metastasis was a clone of Breaking Bad and it was honestly such a poor 4/10 that it's not even worth looking into it for nothing more than memes about how poorly executed it was. In that same way, I can't imagine China's plan to clone the gaming industry will work for the better. If anything it will just end up showing how poorly thought out the idea is from the idealogues that push it and will make Non-Chinese video games still the centerpiece of Chinese consumers that are into video games.

Well their cloning did work pretty good for the better of all gamers - their successful LoL clones for mobile for example lead to LoL: Mobile being developed. Without clones(and Riot being purchased by Tencent) there would be no MOBAs on phones or tablets. Or MMOs and many other game genres, that western companies didnt even think of briging to mobile. Nobody was actually hurt by their clones(beside having to suffer from some really bad ones), as nobody even tried to target some of the markets in first place(or didnt bother to release game in China). But if your game is good AND is released in China, then its becomes a success that doesnt have to fear any clones. So once again - nobody is being hurt. Did you know that they buy the companies of the games they cannot copy? There are some special games that are one of a kind or online. For example, Warframe is a game of a Canadian company. It is even a very good game that saved the company from going bankrupt. China bought this game:I was still playing when they bought it and I still have an account there. Most of the time, when I wanted to trade in the game, when Chinese players came across it, it caused bugs and problems due to the high ping difference. Not only that, but all the Chinese players I knew in the game, even those who broadcast live on Twitch, were playing with cheat programs. We are talking about a community of players who cheated even in a PVe based game.We even started to download and play some games, thinking they were original, without realizing that they were actually copies. Almost all games of Chinese origin run on my computer with a different subprogram other than the game itself.Unknown to many people, many giant European or American game companies have actually been sold to Chinese game giants with a confidentiality agreement. For example, how do you explain that there are Chinese Year events in an online game made in Europe and published only in Europe?70% of the game industry is under China's control and this will increase gradually. They have already bought almost all of the most played Steam games. Copying is a tactic as explained in the video, but do not forget that they are buying companies.

TBH that's pretty ignorant. Ubisoft is a huge company with a massive variety of titles, it just has a few mainstay series in the same genre. But go google up everything they've developed. Its alot. Bethesda actually gets criticized every release for all they've changed. The biggest complaints about Starfield, Fallout 4, and yes even Skyrim was that they were not enough like their older games. They don't reinvent the wheel sure, but they do significantly iterate and try new things and people gripe and kevitch every time. But they still do it. When Back 4 Blood was released, the biggest complaint was that it was not enough like Left 4 Dead 2. God knows how many MMOs released where people went "you shoulda done this more like WOW". You blame the devs, but the devs are innovating and trying new things even in the face of huge pressure from gamers to just do it like the old games.

As a Chinese person, I believe that under China's current legal framework, the rapid takeover of the market by copied games is a very detrimental process for the country. It's like how China's economy has soared for 30 years without considering many consequences, but its drawbacks are also very obvious and frightening. There's a Chinese saying, "欲速则不达," which means that to achieve a good outcome, one should not pursue excessive speed but should proceed patiently and slowly. This market of copied games will severely harm those who genuinely want to create their own games, causing society to lose much of its creativity and development potential. Many of China's current fundamental problems follow this logic-focusing only on immediate gains without considering the long-term effects. While human regression may not be something that can be stopped by anyone, I still do not agree with the idea of ignoring plagiarism. Just like Asmongold said, if you don't tip, the tipping culture will disappear. Similarly, if you don't consume these copied games, they will disappear. Although there's almost no way to achieve this in both cases, I will not adopt an indifferent attitude toward plagiarism.

In the grocery store, there is an aisle of just juices. There's so many of them I think everyone either doesn't buy any juice at all, or they think they see so many options that they could find one that they would like. To me this is a problem of having too many options. I noted working at the grocery store, only one was actually juice and not "juice concentrate" and that's pineapple juice in the can, while everything else was concentrate in a plastic bottle. So to me, while the flavors are different, they're otherwise all the same fundamentally, because I want the health benefits of fruit juice, which to me means I need to buy fruit and blend it into juice. I think the gaming industry is becoming similar, it all is becoming very much the same, without the benefit of being uniquely fun and well designed. In the west, we still have a culture in the arts, but it all gets diluted by the desire for profits over quality, invention and innovation. I had a teacher tell me once that in the East, there is little reward to invent new things because your creation will be taken and copied instead of being rewarded. If that's true, I hope it will change soon.

China will prevent a depression I don't think you understand how valuable opening China up to the global economy was. The GDP per capita during Mao days was like $100 a year. Now it is around $8000 in the city. All of this growth and trade has lowered the prices we pay for a lot of goods and has also created a foreign interest rate soaker. They buy our dollar debts to accumulate dollar interest to pay their Eurodollar deposits back. The problem is now this BRICS system they are creating.

Part about chinese patriotism is super true. How many games pandering to china or being chinesee in western gaming industry got these: Guan Yu, Wukong, Diaochan etc? You dont see Lincoln or Elvis in every american game, League hosts 3-5 china aesthetics themed skin lanes a year (players in west hate it, wonder why) and Hearthstone got these china new year portraits. For some reasone if something is packed with mythology like Smite it sells in china. As a veteran Chinese 🇨🇳, I grew up playing bootleg games. Because video gaming was too pricey for us and the market was full of these copycats. And then approximately around college years I got to know steam and then started buying games. Also many steam games are very cheap. China gaming is like many industries in china, was crap at first place but then due to economic blooming and local protectionism, it grows larger and larger. Finally, the industry is so big that it uses rules and regulations learned from the west to consume and replace its original source😂. To be fair, what makes Chinese so different and also more threatening than other competitors the west used to face is that including Gaming industry, Chinese are so good at the process of learning, copying, catching up and using your rules against you. So you will see china’s rising of 3A games in recent years because the process is complete. Right now making a 3A game in china is very cheap compared with those made in Japan and USA. So I guess in the coming years more 3A games will be made solely by Chinese companies. Put ideology aside, China is just another version of America but the ruling power is the party who plays the game of free markets in a more authoritarian way😂.

As a Chinese gamer who’s been playing games for 20 years I can offer a bit more perspective on this. The reason China had extensive issues with cloning is because for innovative people to exist you need to feed a certain proportion of your population to a fairly good living standard so some of them can afford to innovate without the fear of starving to death. Western countries have reached this state for a few generations, so it is hard for people nowadays to relate to China’s situation 20 years ago where people would rather earn quick money than to be respected for their creations. The Chinese gaming industry was also greatly suppressed by the government mainly due to overwhelming pressure from parents back then, whose generation grew up with literally no games in their lives and thus viewed games as opioids for the mind (similar to parents nowadays being against TikTok and ins). This resulted in there being no soil for innovation, and shameless copiers like Tencent flooded the market with trash and copycats. By the way, Chinese gamers hate Tencent to the gut, but unfortunately Tencent keeps winning and now is buying game companies around the globe. Another reason Tencent makes so much money is because it puts it’s focus on free-to-play games with in-game purchases, and mainly appeal to those whose sense of pleasure come from showing off the expensive items they bought (like the new Ahri skin in LOL, typical Tencent move). Whenever a small studio comes up with a good prototype of a game, giant companies like Tencent would purchase the studio, interfere with game-making, make it free-to-play with in-game purchase, and milk the sht out of the game until nobody wants to play it anymore, and then move on to the next target. That’s why Chinese gamers are so excited about Black Myth Wukong, as it is an AAA game with no in-game purchase, and that Game Science has promised to not let any investors affect their game designs. If Black Myth Wukong proves to be a success on the market, similar games will follow, which will break the endless cycle of trash game devs in China. Also, Genshin impact was subjected to a huge wave of criticism in China before it even launched because the demo back then clearly showed it was a knockoff of Breath of the Wild. And no surprise, it was free-to-play with in-game purchase. Chinese gamers were ashamed of the game being launched overseas, but surprisingly it turned out to be a success and foreigners loved it. About the propaganda thing, there has always been a misconception that China wants to spread communism the way America spreads its freedom and democracy, and that’s simply not true as far as I’m concerned. What the Chinese government and Chinese people are hoping to do with games is something like what the Japanese have done with their anime, which is to get the world interested in exploring our culture. So many people in the west know Goku from Dragonball but many of them only got to know its origin Wukong the monkey king when Black Myth Wukong showed up, which is a perfect example.

Iterative design is different than completely ripping off a game. Iterative design is defined by design in stages or iterations, prototyping, testing, analyzing and refining for final product. Many game studios see "final product" from other studios and then take that idea and go into their own studio and start the cycle from the prototyping stage. China sees a final product from other studios and they get people working on ripping that off completely as a final product. No innovation, no differences, no changes, no adding their own personal take on an idea. It's just a carbon copy, in this way, they dodge months or years of prototyping, testing and refining.

No, majority of the games would have to change big time in order to be able to sell in China. China would also give major support to their own people than help you. China would also use their power to force you out if they could make a copy of your stuff. So the main reason those copies are doing fine in China is because the main company didn't want to bother porting it to Chinese. If China can make a copy of your product they will drive you out of the country to favor the copy.
