I mean, I suppose having "internet laws" per country isn't necessarily as bad as any global laws, just like laws are different across borders concretely, but it still definitely challenges individualism and freedom of expression, which I suppose China and other corrupt communist states are against, anyways. I'm not surprised that southeast Asian states are following the Chinese model, because these states are economically and politically orbiting the Chinese sun, as it were. However, as long as this system doesn't infect the West in Europe, the Americas and the southern Anglosphere (Australia, NZ, S. Africa), I feel like they're gonna stay in their own bubble. I believe that China is so stubborn to hold their fascist ideals that that system won't change at all unless the people themselves make an effort. With the rise of censored media and face tracking, that's starting to look like a million-to-one chance, but I mean hey, China has one of the two largest populations of any country currently, so I'm optimistic.
Mario it’s how all the Chinese access sites such as RU-vid. So they can defend their government’s actions all while posting on a site that is technically banned by their government....
@Mario Yes but it's a bit of a cat and mouse game. Local servers get blocked, close down and get reopened under a different IP address and port. It's not uncommon for people to carry two mobile devices: one for local traffic and one for unfiltered traffic. IMO with Starlink coming on line in a few years blocking access will get almost impossible.
That type of attitude isn’t helping. Start learning more about net neutrality and proceed to teach more people about it. Otherwise the powers that be are going to get away with this shit.
Actually, China principally wants to maintain it's authoritarian grasp on its own country, and to do that, it must control/censor information within it's borders, and as much as possible within Chinese language media in other countries.

Too much information also is annoying. Because we filter what we want to see, we create a further divide between right and left. For example, we been arguing about global warming for 20 + years and we still can't reach a consensus. Mean while China is planting fking trees, expanded their rails, built fking artifical cities. You have to be joking, sure ISPs mostly care about getting the most money possible while being a jerk to their customers. But ISPs can manage and block websites from running through it's services. @drive 95 Article 13 was never meant to destroy meme-making or the production and posting of legal content. It was meant to improve copyright protections and promote better payments to rightsholders for their works that often end up on the internet for everyone to see. Unfortunately though, the thought of content ID technologies being built and deployed does have its unintended side-effects such as mistakenly blocking or erasing content, so that is an issue that will be addressed during the development of each member state's own version of the law that support the directive. However, that doesn't mean the end of fair use, for the EU has clarified that fair use will still be allowed, even with these meaningful changes.

RU-vid/google has already adapted to the censorship model. Many of my favourite RU-vidrs who make murder case documentaries are being censored, which make them super difficult to operate.
Remember , countries , epecially big countries like India , Brazil can never be able to reach their maximum potential as long as US hegemony is here. They will do anything to cause instability in those ctries when they have reached 60 or 70% of US economic growth. Like the Japanese in the 1970's and 1980's . The pathetic things is Japan was held hostage by America as they needed her in their national defence , thus didn't even put up a fight against the hegmon. To deal with US hegemony, countries had to beef up their industrialization and economy and always have a backup plan against other ctries retaliation. Look at Mexico. Can it say no to US when US decided to punish her by raising tariff on them as and when US like?
Naufal Hilmy that depends.... apple iCloud data for Chinese users are now stored in a company that is founded by the Chinese government specifically for this... instead of being afraid of the US government spying on, you simply start to doubt what will the Chinese government do for the data... Non-Chinese cloud services are usually blocked, partially blocked, semi-functional or regulated in China.
That's right. What's wrong with autocracies wanting to store their citizens' data locally and have full control over it? Everything is half as bad when the GESTAPO arrests opposition citizens at night.

Internet control is just as important as traditional media control. If you don’t control the content. It becomes a hotpot of mess. But China’s control is a bit too much in my opinion. I think it needs to lose up a little bit and trust in the judgement of the people a little more. I am Chinese btw.
Watching this from in China. There's very little that can be done to stop people bypassing blocks. And a lot of those laws about keeping data within a country is the due to American extraterritorial laws that extend American jurisdiction to people in other countries if they're doing anything that involves American servers. Truly ridiculous laws that allow America to play World Police.
So a few people sitting in an office can decide what you can and can't see, that is utterly ridiculous. Most of these countries have democracies, so those who you voted for will impede your rights? South East asia really is a strange place.
Lol... ask any developer in China, they will admit they need VPN to access "blocked" foreign websites in order to do day-to-day coding and developing. "Blocking internet does not lead to any impediment of technological invention" is bollocks.

What nonsense. In contrast to China, opinion pluralism prevails in the Net. Every idiot can express his opinion to the outside world and other idiots can follow this. The best example is RU-vid. It's not optimal, but it's better than the CP monopoly of opinion. It is also not television where only the mainstream prevails.

if that model gets implemented, one could argue that nations that don't censor or manipulate online data but would do the opposite would gain a significant amount of pulling force from those who work to innovate the way we live now or things work. So as much as this is a bad development, it at least might be one way for other countries to close the growing power gap when compared to China.
There's a reason behind censored internet that might work for some countries and not others. China has a huge population of close to 1.5 billion. If the United States decides to use big data in Google and propaganda to promote a revolution like they have done in about a dozen countries in the middle east, all they need is 1% of the people to be convinced and that's 1.5 Million people. 3% of the people convinced to radical ideas and thinking is 4.5 Million people. There are hundreds of million Chinese who are uneducated with no critical thinking skills.
The Chinese government just don't like to admit their fault in the past and came up with a beautiful name to control what they want you to know. History can't be deleted. Admit your wrongdoings, it's no big deal. It's all in the past by the way. History needs truth, not packaged deception. 我是馬來西亞的華人,我覺得每個國家的政府應該勇於承認自己的過失並加以改正而不是掩蓋事實。
On one hand the intentional spreading of false information to further an agenda is very damaging to a country and can have serious long lasting effects. But on the other hand people should have the right to lie and purport falsehoods under freedom of speech. The effectiveness or lack of effectiveness of information whether true or false is dependent on the critical thinking skills of the person consuming it. Have a consumer base with poor critical thinking skills and you end up with Trump as president, anti-vaxxers, people believing there are more than 2 genders, and people wanting open borders.
