Another forgotten conflict, the Soviet Chinese War in Manchuria in the late 1920s. Russia won and began to economically move into Manchuria, something by which Japan felt endangered. This ended more than 2 years before Japan took Manchuria.
@Jackie-wn5hx
@Jackie-wn5hx 7 месяцев назад
Ooh. Thanks for sharing that. I honestly never heard of that conflict before now. The Interwar Period and the Warlord Era of China's 20th century history is complex and confusing to me. I will definitely be researching it because I'm fascinated pre-1949 Chinese history.
@arthurmosel808
@arthurmosel808 7 месяцев назад
@@Jackie-wn5hx If you want even more eye opening but on Japan; there were two books written in the 1950s as I remember that dealt with Japan's relations with Russia well before the Meiji period. One if I remember the title was "Japan's Northern Frontier". I will check my notes. It points out in 1700 Japanese maps showed the entire Kyrils up to Komchetka, as Japanexe, all of Sakhalin, and various coastal enclaves on the Siberian coast. By the Meiji period, almost all had been taken by Russia. In 1875, the Japanese gave up the last half of Sakhalin in exchange for a treaty protecting the Islands taken by Russia following WW2 and Hokkaido. This treaty held because the British backed them scine they wanted to stop Russian advancing south. By the way, Russia continued advancing south against China. Part of the reason for the Rusdo-Japanese War of 1904-1905. Russia was heading into Korea, and Japan considered that a danger. Russia either Imperial, Soviet, or whatever you call Putin's Russia has always pushed on its neighbors. In China's case startingin 1650.
@Jackie-wn5hx
@Jackie-wn5hx 7 месяцев назад
@@arthurmosel808 Actually, I would like to know the name of the book written in the 1950s. I'm familiar with the Meji Restoration, but I thought Japan had been closed off to the entire world since the 17th century. I'm not sure how historically accurate it was, but my favorite film is called, _The_ _Last_ _Emperor,_ and it covers some of the turmoil in China and the Japanese occupation of Manchurian. Like many people learning history, I was originally obsessed with the WWII. It turns out that's it's nearly impossible to fully understand causes and consequences without learning the rich history before and after WWII.
@arthurmosel808
@arthurmosel808 7 месяцев назад
@@Jackie-wn5hx Not really closed. The Dutch still traded with them (non-Catholic) under the condition that they attend the report to the Shogunate annual on political, scientific and military matters in the rest of the world (in point of fact, they were only about 50 years behind the West in many areas, where they weren't it was by choice - mainly political structure and military (since it would reduce the Tokugawa power) . They also ran three spy rings, one through Korea, 9ne in Southeast Asia, and one through Okinawa (heavily targeting China). Since Okinawa was technically a dominion of the Satsuma Hun, there was some outside trade carried on there as well. There were also trusted agents sent out from Japan (under false nationalities) who reported back. Materials from Europe were review by study groups, and some cleared of any reference to Europe; were reissued under a Japanese author. The author of Giving Up the Gun (an anti-firearm book) named a medical text as proof that advances could be made in a peaceful nation; however, the book was actually a repeat of a Dutch medical text, provided during an annual report, that had been reviewed and reissued by a Board. I mentioned the Russian moves, at least one Japanese delegation went to Moscow during the 1700s to get a treaty (violated later of course). Prior to the "opening" of Japan, the Dutch king sent a letter warning Japan of foreign interest in opening the nation). This resulted in the purchasing of Dutch firearms for Shogunate forces, the acquisition of a Dutch Training Manual and An order to the Han to restart firearms training with their own weapons. They were acutely aware of what the Europeans were doing in China, and in my opinion chose to give into the US demands to open because we were the lesser threat since we hadn't taken part in the land and power grabs there. As in most things, the information that we are generally taught can be the tip of an iceberg. My interest is primarily military history, and not only materials written here, but in other nations, and in the case of Japan translations of their materials (I know a limited amount of spoken Japanese, but reading documents is beyond me).

@@Jackie-wn5hx Although primarily military, you might find Khanzhan interesting. Basically, it covers the war period but little of the politics. It doesn't cover, that I remember, what really started the major fighting. It was supposed to be a military conference where Chaing was confronted by remaining warlords and had to agree to a war then or he wasn't leaving. Why is it important? Chaing was planning a modernized 60 division army under the central government, trained and armed by Germany with the warlord forces due to be disbanded. This was to be done by 1941. He had been trying to avoid open war for that reason. By going to open war in 1937, he was dependent on the warlord forces throughout most of the war, these were of indeed varying quality and effectiveness; and often a particular warlord was loath to weaken his forces. A real mess! If he had been able to wait perhaps that conflict would have been different.

The USSR and China were also feuding during the era of the Nationalist government. After Chiang Kai Shek purged the Communists they began targeting the Chinese Community in the USSR. Stalin began a mass deportation of ethnic Chinese mostly men and their Russian wives to Xinjiang province in China. 2 of those people happened to be my grand parents. The Russians who were deported to China were never trusted by the Chinese authorities during the Sino Soviet split and were often considered potential fifth column who would spy for the Soviet Union.

@@ernestkhalimov1007 why CCP attacked capitalist USA in 1950? why CCP attacked socialist India in 1962? why CCP attacked communist Russia in 1969? why CCP attacked capitalist South Vietnam in 1974? why CCP attacked communist Vietnam in 1979? why Chinese communist waged wars against other communists even there were blood allies too? because CCP's full name is Chinese Communist Party, they are nationalistic Chinese first, communistic Chinese second, CCP thought communism is an ideologic tool for CCP to make China great again, because Soviet became strong in short time, not because Chinese have to be religious like communism jihadist, you know Confucianism has been more important ideology than communism, right? when USA and Soviet and their lapdogs tried to contain, encircle, sanction, isolate, nuke-threaten Chinese, then CCP just counterattacked enemeis for Chinese freedom, independence, and sovereignty, why it's hard to understand? Mao said publicly before: Sino-Soviet relation went bad because Soviet tried to militarily control China in 1958, ideology is just an excuse because Mao is more extreme leftist than Gorbachev during Great Culture Revolution, every country put national interests and geopolitics above ideology. so what events really caused Sino-Soviet Split 1958-1989? CCP considered Soviet's proposal of long-wave radio station in China, and Sino-Soviet combined fleet, as Soviet was trying to treat PRC as satellite state like Eastern Europe under Warsaw Pact, but why CCP is so sensitive about autonomy and sovereignty? why West Europe, Japan, S.Korea, Taiwan feels OK with US troops stationed in their land even raped local women? because all Chinese (left-wing CCP or right-wing KMT) remember Century of Humiliation, West Russia Japan just poisoned, invaded, looted, enslaved, colonized Chinese, 20 million people killed by Japan imperialist just 10 years ago, why Chinese shouldn't concern other imperialists could do again? so what root reason caused Sino-Soviet Split? leadership/hegemony competition in Asia or socialist world, Soviet is afraid Mao is not obedient to Soviet leadership like Tito, that's why Soviet have to oppress CCP like USA did to Japan or W.Europe, but Chinese communist was born against imperialist during May Fourth Movement, China's size, history, pride means Chinese won't accept to be any country's lapdog. it's same reason for CCP-Vietcong Split since 1972-1991, because Vietcong doesn't want to be controlled by China like 1000 years again, CCP also knew other small communist countries, like Korean and Vietnamese communist bros are very sensitive about autonomy, so CCP retreat all troops after Korean War and Vietnam War, but when Soviet warned to nuke China after Sino-Soviet Conflict 1969, CCP considered Soviet as bigger and nearer threat than USA, Kissinger thought USA can't contain both Soviet and Russia same time because civil unrest in 1960s almost make USA economy to collapse, so Mao shaked hands with Nixon against Soviet in 1972 and asked Mao to solve Vietnam problem, CCP even convinced North Vietnam not really to invade South Vietnam and cut military support, Vietcong felt betrayed by CCP then became more pro-CCCP and anti-CCP. Vietcong signed defense pact with Soviet in 1978, Soviet invaded Afghanistan in 1979, Dengxiaoping considered it's anti-China encirclement, then CCP sponsored Afghan mujahideen against Soviet, armed Khmer Rouge against Vietcong, keep attacking Vienam on border until Soviet left Afghanistan in 1989, Vietnam left Laos Cambodia 1991. so why today Vietcong is pro-USA but anti-China? because Vietcong is nationalist first.

During this conflict, 30 Chinese died and 58 Russian died. The Soviet army was poorly trained even according to Mao Zedong era’s Chinese standard. Most of 30 our Chinese comrade were killed while they tried to capture the T-62 tank sunk into river. We successfully captured the T-62 tank and developed our own tanks based on it.

Not unconditionally, the soviet agreed to withdraw under the condition, China can defend the region, Thats why China joined the Korean war. after "winning" the Korean war, the soviet withdraw all their assets and naval bases from Manchuria.

@@raghunandant2361I'm actually utterly laughing at this comment, it goes to show just how little you learn in regards to accurate history, whenever I hear my relatives over in India (I'm a son of Indian-American parents) talk about history it's clear that what they learn is a perverted revisionist version of history instead of actual facts.
