I watched your video over a year ago and purchased the miter gauge because of this review. This gauge is well built and functions flawlessly! After over a year of steady use, I can reach for it without questioning it's accuracy. Thank you for the great video!
I’ve been watching all sorts of woodworking videos. I got into woodworking a couple of years ago. I follow all of the big guys in the woodworking RU-vid world. Usually these guys are sponsored by entities such as Rockler, Woodcraft, SawStop, Titebond, Powermatic, etc. I’m very impressed with your channel. Not to take away from these other guys. You offer useful information explained in good detail. You give very clean and professional ideas that make beginners gravitate to the craft. Thank you for your content and channel. Keep up the good work.
Sorry to be so off topic but does any of you know a way to get back into an Instagram account..? I stupidly forgot my login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can offer me.
@Gunner Jace I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
the finger joint jig is the perfect solution for a manufacturing problem i struggle with. I build beehive boxes with fingers that are wider than my dado set for beehive boxes. The jigs I have made were not accurate and stable enough. I tried using rabbet joints but they are not stable enough for continuous outdoor exposure because of the amount of end grain. Even with crown staples they pull apart over time. Thanks for the video and for pointing out this product.
I have owned this miter gauge for almost a year now and love it. Bought it for my table saw that I build. Works much better than the one that came with my old table saw.
On some websites you can still find the older model for 20dollars less. The only difference is that the new model has brass handle and the old one is steel.
Hi Robin, this one is also for sale on banggood. I mentioned in the discription below the video. I think that one is a very good deal. I find the brass one a bit to expansive. Thanks for your comment.
Nice Job, I purchased one of these miter gauges before watching this video and yes I am very happy with it and to get the confirmation from an expert. However, I reckon the price is really worth it and it has opened up a lot more building options that I never considered in the past.
Always enjoyed watching the methodical and technical approach that you display when you work! Your work area, tools and accessories screams precision, eye for details and high quality! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Great video. Thank you for that. I really like your very unique style. While also being interested in China tools, it's the perfect combination. Always if I see a new video of the China-Tool-Series it's the first I click on. Keep up the great work!
Hi Denis, nice review and excelent description of the product features. Your woodwork space is too amazing to work. Thanks for sharing. Unfortunately these products are too expensive to buy from Brazil.
Thank you for such an informative, well shot and well edited video. It was a pleasure to watch and have learned so much about the product and how to use it.
After rebuilding my bosch tablesaw to fit the "standard" miter gauge, I could finally use this box joint jig. After some test pieces I was able to make a small box, that I was very happy with. I only had to look at your video 50 times first😆. Thank you so mutch for the "how to use the jig part".
Which Bosch saw do you have with mone standard slots how did you rebuild it? I can't workout if my bosch one is none standard or seems fine but these comments worry me
@@flanagon360Bosch doest have T shape track, just 19mm rectangular groove. You can buy Hongdui miter gauge they have particular model for Bosch table, but of course first measure everything maybe your saw has "standard" track😅
Incra makes a very similar miter gauge (model V120). The difference is that it has detents at every degree. I prefer this, and the cost difference between it and the DrillPro is not that much, at least here in Canada. Thanks for the great reviews.
Hi Brian, THe INCRA V120 is a very nice miter gauge. In our country it cost twice as this one. So, I think it will depends on were you life. That said there are some differences. This one uses a big thicker material and INCRA build it more stable because of construction. Both are good enough. This one, is more beautiful (for what is worth it). But for similar prices, I would buy a Incra product too.
good video Dennis please keep these videos going really liking the comparisons. plus it helps people like me make better decisions on their tool choices
Thanks for these videos they are very informative, I buy a lot from banggood and I'm definitely a very amateur woodworker with a very tiny workshop (UK garage!) but these tools help make things easier as do the youtube videos. Thanks again for taking the time.
Hi Dennis, an update to my previous post regarding this mitre gauge and the Evolution Rage 5s. I recently went ahead and purchased this excellent looking product. I did so based on the fact that it is supposed to come with a 'standard' 19 mm mitre track bar. Alas, whilst this is the case, the depth, 9.5 mm, renders the mitre gauge useless on my table saw, as it sits 2.5 mm proud of the table. This means that it, along with the stock being cut, rocks up and down. I wonder if there is an alternative mitre bar that is compatible with this gauge.
Dennis, thoroughly well done, as with all your videos. I noticed that you cut away a section of the composite fence material to align with the opening in the aluminum part of the fence to accommodate passage of router bits and a saw blade. I’m curious to know how you determined the spacing between the composite material cut from the box joint jig. Also, I suppose the maximum width of the composite material cut out would be equal to the aluminum side opening. I just received the miter gauge fence combo and am impressed. Thanks for any input you can provide and Happy Holidays!
I just bought this mitre gauge with the box joint jig, although I currently don't really have a use for a box joint jig it still would make a great face and I know I'll just end up using box joints sooner or later. Just paid shy of €78 for the gauge, jig and even a flip stop so totally not a bad deal
Got it in the mail yesterday, looks perfect! Got playing with it today, the mitre gauge just seems splendid when set up. But, so far I haven't yet been able to get a finger joint cut properly. Like it hasn't even been close and I am not sure what I've been doing wrong.
Hi Dennis, I purchased this miter gauge and box joint jig/fence based on your recommendation. One of the screws which attaches the box joint fence to the miter gauge is stripped. The other 3 tighten down just fine. Do you have any suggestions on how to repair this? Also, I'm a little confused about the proper way to square this to my table saw blade. My blade has been adjusted to a dead 90 degrees to my miter slots and table saw fence. Is the big brass knob the only thing I need to tighten down after I get it squared up to the blade or are there any other screws that need to be tightened down? Thank you very much. I always enjoy your reviews and both your shop and your woodworking skills are just mind blowingly awesome. Sadly, we cannot get the valcromat (high density fiber board) that you used for your tables. I love the black. Looks so clean and professional. Cheers from California!
So I decided on this combo. I am still learning a great deal and think this will give me the best overall outcome. Thank you so much for the detailed evaluations, you have once again made my decision very easy. If I am ever in your neck of the woods I would love to buy you a beer 👍
Only just found your channel Dennis, but I'm so impressed by what I've seen that I had to subscribe. I absolutely love your work, especially the workbench and the drill press station, I have a drill press on my wish list, so the station can wait a while, but I am definitely going to have a go at the workbench as my old one just isn't practical anymore. Looking forward to seeing more of your inspiring video's. Stay safe.
Great review. I've looked at both of these before. Ultimately I went with an Incra v120 miter gauge because I found a Christmas sale that put it at the same price point. I am happy to see the box joint jig is a worthy buy. I love your work station BTW. That's awesome!
Im a huge fan Dennis of your work and your shop, is it possible to set any other angle besides its notches? Thank you very much and keep up the good work
This finger joint is not meant to use it the way I showed. It is made for router bits. Advantage is that you can use it for multiple bit sizes. What I showed is just a way you can also use it. But you need a saw blade with a flat teeth. And Other than the USA, it is hard to get here in Europe. Those blades are pretty expansive. so the question is, if it is the best solution. But if you have such a blade, yes it works only if your blade is at the same size as the pin of this boxjoint jig. That will be around 3mm.
Dennic, Thank you for your review and work. Your skills are very highly enjoyed and opinion valued. I would love to have your router set up with the Incra fence!!!
Great review, Dennis. I have the cheaper version of this mitre gauge with aluminium handles. However, you didn’t mention that the fence plate can be adjusted relative to the angle gauge so it is possible to calibrate it perfectly.
Really fantastic work on the fence, dude! Nicely done! 😃 I just added those products to my wishlist! It's going to take a while to me to be able to buy them, but they're there! 😂 Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Hi Dennis, first of all I like your videos and projects. But as a professional woodworker I have to comment on a very important thing and that is safety. !!!!! Never ever work with gloves on any machinery with turning parts or tools like a sawblade!!!! If they are caught they will pull your hand into the machine with ugly results. So please prefer some rough tough hands with splinters and blisters. Far better than loosing your fingers! Keep up your good work! Looking forward to your next video! Greetings from Baarn
When I read this I saw him use a battery powered drill and was like, “true, but it’s just a tiny drill” then I saw the tablesaw... I always see a horror scenario where the glove gets caught and it sucks in your hand while shredding it.
hey hookedon wood. Would you happen to know whether the miter gauge you showed in the video is compatible with my Festool CS 70? Also could you make a video on how to make the fence?
Hi Dennis, thanks for sharing your excellent reviews of these incredible tools. I have a question that maybe yourself or subscribers could answer: Do these products fit the mitre slot on the Evolution Rage s5 table saw?
I have spent years watching and learning woodworking from books, TV, browers and youtube. thousands and thousands of hours. I can honestly say, I have never enjoyed watching woodworking as much as when I watch your content. Clearly, calmy and precisely delivered. And the neatness of your work and workshop, is an absolute dream to look at, for some one like myself, that suffers terribly with OCD. a real joy. Thank you for making and sharing this channel. Would it be possible for you to do a review of the kapex 60? I'm in the market for one and was wanting to pick up the 120, but I see a lot of youtubers using the 60 and wondered what your thoughts were on it. Is the extra cost worth it, or are you fully happy with your choice? I will be using it for Hobby/DIY purposes. Thanks again.
Thanks Gerry, I will do a review about the Kapex 60. I do not know when, but this will come. I choose the 60 over the 120 for the price and I do not need the capacity of the 120 much. That said, If money was no object I would have choose the 120.
I am a bit of an impatient bugger lol. Just purchased the kapex 60 yesterday from screwfix. I figured it was always going to meet my needs. Screwfix have a good package with the bevel and height adjusting feet, for use with the sys 1, as an extra support. Only £700, so not bad. the money I saved on the kapex 120, allowed me to purchase the Makita RP2301 FCXK/2 Router and the Makita KP0810K Planer. 95% of my power tools are all Makita. I really wanted the Makita mitre saw too, to keep my OCD happy, and my wallet lol, but too many people complaining about inaccuracies to warrant that money. I have always got my old ryobi 10" mitre saw, if I ever need the bigger capacity, which I honestly doubt. Thanks again.🙂🙂🙂
Because I review woodworking tools from china (Banggood) There are no deep thoughts behind it. It started this way, I did not think I would do so many of them. What do you think about it? do you find it negative, ore offensive? I like to hear your input. Thanks Dennis
Hi Dennis, I bought this mitre sled on the recent sale day. What I received doesn't look like your fine example. All the stainless steel edges on mine are very sharp, ie not factory deburred. Whereas your closeup video shows a very well deburred, rounded edges. Did you deburr the tool yourself, or did it come like that from the factory?
Hi Paul, No, I idid not deburred the edges. You saw it the way I got it. Can you sent me a picture? hookedonwood@hotmail.com I am interested to see. Thanks Dennis
Hi Dennis can you tell me what material your router table is made of and also if you made it and if so do you have a video and plans for building it?? Love your videos Regards Kim from Australia.
Hi Kim, here you can find the info on the first question: hookedonwood.online/Frequently-asked-questions/ Here you can find info about my workbench including plans: hookedonwood.online/Shop-Improvements/
Thank you very much for your honest reviews. I see you use a lot of T-track screws and dovetail screws. Because it's a little difficult to buy international orders because of the long wait for delivery times to South Africa I would rather buy my screws and fittings in set form instead of individual units, please review sets of your most used screw sets from banggood. I appreciate your reviews very much. Thank you.
I plan to do that, but it is difficult to test router bits because when they new, they all perform well. So I have to use them over a longer period. But I think it is interesting.
Another great video Dennis. It's a shame I don't have space for a table saw, cause that looks like one very fine miter guage! Have to say I'm quite jealous on all the beautifull tools you see flashing by in 2 second shots! I do also own the Bridge City Tool Works try square, definitely not necessary, but boy is it a beautifull square every time you use it :)
Great review, Dennis, and fantastic video skills. I respect your opinion and skills. I also have trusted your review and purchased from Banggood. Good products and arrived in Melbourne Australia quickly and in good condition. Keep up your great work 👍
So I just got this box joint jig, mainly because I was under the impression I could also use it as a normal fence which is not the case unfortunately because the pins are in the way. You have to rotate it by 180° if you want to use it as a plain fence which is (thanks to the very short screws and square nuts a royal pain in the back), same goes for swapping this jig for a separate normal fence with the same miter gauge... This product is certainly a bit underwhelming for me.
When you want to use it as a fence, just remove the two pins. You only need them when you want to make boxes. Further more, besides a scale you can put a stopblock on it and use it as a fence.
@@HookedonWood Yeah, that's what I did but there's a significant size hole there where the material is not supported. And turning it around is jerky and annoying due to the square nuts and super short screws. Despite the thin pins which you mentioned I do see a lot of room for improvement on this product. However I did find another use for it meanwhile to create wide dados on the table saw by using the cutting window but without the box joint pins which provides much better stability than a simple fence without a crosscut sled (which I don't have and now probably am not going build either).
Thanks for video reviews. Very well done. I've almost bought this miter gauge but it seems like the resolution is 5deg. Is that so? I want to upgrade the miter gauge that came with my table saw. The track is horrible but I can set it to any degree and even fraction of degrees which I do use.
Hi, Yes, it is a problem to set these (kind of) miter gauges to another position then pre set. For this, you need a miter gauge that sets in the little of the scale, not at the side.
Hi all! I need some advice because it seems I’m stuck. I’ve been trying to make a box joint with my table saw and this exact WNEW miter gauge/ box joint jig. I’ve seen various folks using and it looks straight forward enough however I can’t get it right. After a billion test cuts I’ve managed to get the settings dialed and i made a 3 pin joint test piece - fits pretty well! However when i go to cut my actual piece (which has around 12 pins) my 2 parts don’t line up. The first pins are ok and fit perfectly but as I go further down my piece the size of the pins gradually gets larger / size of the holes gradually gets smaller. I have no idea what is causing this… the process is always the same, the metal bracket on the miter gauge is tight, nothing is moving… Any thoughts on what i might be doing wrong? Thanks.
Great review and how-to's. Thank you. I see you use metal gauges to set your table saw blade angle. How do you feel about using a magnetic digital angle finder that is attached to the blade? I'm thinking about getting one of those because it would make making fine adjustments to the blade angle easier.
Thank you for the reviews, but I think the miter gauge was rated too low. It seems that you'd spend well over $100 US to purchase something similar. Hoping to see a follow up video. Plan on purchasing soon.
In one way. I agree with you. That counts for almost all China Tools. We are used to the fact that products from China are cheap. That said. If I look at the Incra V27. That one is a little bit more expensive. (Depending in country) that is why I think it is a bit to expansive. The normal version from this miter gauge has a very attractive price in comparison.
Sorry, now I am confused about the warning. In Part 2 for the box joint, you say that it works with any saw blade that leaves a flat bottom. But the warning says that is only works with blades that are about 3 mm. I have a thin kerf blade that is 3/32'' or 2.38mm. So your technique does not work with my saw blade, correct? A full kerf blade in the U.S. would be 1/8'' or 3.175mm, which does not seem to work either.
Hi Gregor, I can understand you are confused. I own a 3.17 mm saw blade. You can adjust it to a thicker size, but not to a smaller size because the pins are 3.0mm thick. But you have two pins and you can set them apart. So, you are correct, it does. not work with your saw blade. That said. This thing is originally designed to use with a router bit and router table. I used it a few times this way, so that was why I thought would be nice to show the possibilities. Especially because there is no alternative if you want to do this with a table saw blade. But it takes a bit of setup time and it is not as convenient to use as with router bits. It is too easy to mess it up. Looking back at this episode, I think it would be better not to show it this way. I tried to make something like this in a DIY version and I spend a week testing this fence and my DIY fence. Than I found out that it is too difficult to get consistent results. You have to spent too much time fine tuning the settings. Better to not buy it for this function.
Another well done in depth review! I just received mine and agree with your findings, it is a very nice and practical tool. One thing I noticed is that the black expansion rings in the miter bar seem to be a softer and more flexible plastic than the white rings Incra uses. Wondering what your experience has been with the black rings wearing down and how well they stay properly adjusted so the miter gauge slides freely but without side to side play. Thanks!
@Hooked On Wood Dennis, is this miter guage significantly better *in function* compared to the original INCRA miter gauge that they have copied and I believe you also own? Another great video. I may order that box joint fence/jig. I have the INCRA miter guage. Will it attach and work the same?
No, it is not significantly better then the INCRA. It has a nicer fit and finish as the INCRA. It also has a thicker plate than the INCRA, but the INCRA is build from steel and did more to give a better stability. But when using it, The NEW is stable enough and the INCRA is Nice enough! So, when you work with them they are practically the same. If you have a INCRA, keep it and love it, because is think it is a very nice product. The joint box fence fits on the INCRA and works the same. I do not know if you use it with a dado / router bit or that you use it with a normal table saw blade. If you use it with a dado/router bit, they have a nice template so you can easily set it up. The way I used it with the normal table saw is not the way it is meant to be. But I think it is the easiest way to do it. I even prefer it, doing this way instead with my router table. I do not have seen anyone do it this way. Anyway, it is a flexible unit for finger joints.
Hi Steve, We call it Full colored MDF. It is a kind of MDF, but heavier, dancer and easy to work with. But I understand it is hard to get outside the Nederlands. I do not know why. It is a bit like Valchromat but only cheaper.
Hi Dennis. Great videos, keep it up. When will you be reviewing the pocket hole jig? Building a wardrobe soon and looking for a jig to put the carcass together. Hoping you'll be posting it soon
I want to start next week with a new episode of China tools. But that are with different other products. After that, probably 2 weeks later I think I do the pocket hole jig. I want to make a platform for it that I can show. Based on what I do know now. Is that is it a good jig. I prefer it almost in any circumstance to the Kreg pocket hole. The only thing is, that the bushings in the Kreg are a bit more tight then on this Banggood pocket hole jig. I want to do some more testing about what this mean when working with it. Although there is slightly more play on the bushings when you drill bit is in it, you do not feel or see a difference when using it. This is because if it is in the wood, it does not move at the underside. The difference in play is just very small. (So, I do not think it is a problem) But it clamps better, It is more robust then the Kreg. The piece that hold the wood in place is bigger and softer and this make working with the jig much more convenient. You feel de difference between when you work with them. I think everyone will blindly choose the Banggood over the Kreg for that. I like the mounting of the dust extraction over the Kreg and the way you set the hight of the guide block is way better then that from Kreg. So, I think you can not go wrong with the Banggood pocket hole. I wanted to invest more time in the material used in the banggood pocket hole for the bushings because I think that of the Kreg is from a better material. But with the banggood pocket hole jig it is painted and with the kreg it is shiny aluminium. But perhaps it is also aluminium under the paint. That is the only thing that hold me back on this moment a little bit. But I think you will be satisfied with both and based on the one project I did so far with the banggood pocket hole I would buy that one. It is just more solid when using it.
@@HookedonWood wow a personal review! Thank you so much. Do you have a link to the one you're referring to, they have a few on banggood. Also if I go through a link on here will it be beneficial to you? I would like to support if possible. Love the channel, I'm moving house soon and will be getting a bigger space for my shop and I'm hoping to build your workbench once I'm in. Keep up the good work.
@@nickreed9916 Hi Nick, thanks. If you use one of the links in the description to enter the Banggood site than it is good for me;-) I would only buy one with dust extraction. not everyone gets this. The problem is of course dust, but also that it is accumulating in the holes. So, I Would prefer with dust extraction. Further, you will see that some are complete sets with drill bits and some have non. The drill bit looks good, but I think I would buy the screws from Kreg, these Kreg screws need a square driver. You can buy both from Kreg. Screws are similarly priced as on Banggood but I think Kreg screws are easier available when you need them. I think all models that looks the same, are the same. So i would choose the one you like or with the best price. I have this one: www.banggood.com/custlink/DmDYWo4mQv Thanks Dennis
@@HookedonWood Hi Dennis, just ordered the pocket hole jig you recommended, went into banggood through your link so hopefully you get a little something from that. Also ordered the doweling jig you reviewed, wonder if I'll get the flat or curved edges?! Adds a little mystery I suppose 😁. Thanks for your advice
Another excellent video Dennis. Many thanks for posting. Are you planning on doing a more in depth one of your new mitre/drill set up and also the rebuild of your workbench? Cheers
Hi Mark, Yes I will make a video at least about my workbench. When my miter/drill workbench is completely ready and I think there are enough nice ideas that I put in it, I will make a video about that to.
Groeten Dennis
Hi Carlos, I am sorry to hear that. I also have a INCRA Miter gauge like this and I have to say that this comes also delivered in a carton box. It looks I bit nicer but in terms of stability it is the same. So I do not know if a box can protect against a force that can bend this product. I hope you can still use it or bend it back a bit. Is the T-track slider bend?
@@HookedonWood Hi, I have been able to repair it and I am start using it, it looks like it will be wirkibg with no problems. Many thanks for all the tips and keep with the great work.
Great job! Please, can you tell me what kind of material you have used,in the first part of the video,to make the plane. In this time,i see more makers that use some plastic material to make a new table saw plane, but no one tell what is this.... thanks again!
Did you have to cut the slot on the black material that is part of the fence/box joint jig ? I'm confused if the aluminum slides over behind the black material to reveal a slot for the table saw blade to pass through ?
I needed a miter gauge and bought this particular one after seeing your video, thanks! It seemed to be a nice 2-in-1 solution, as it is possible to use it as a normal miter fence and as a box joint jig. However, I found out that, because of the box joint gap, it is not suited for mitercuts in smaller workpieces, as it lacks support for these pieces. Therefore, I am looking for a quality miter fence (no gauge) that does not break the bank. I watched your newest video, but still don't know where to find a seperate quality fence with measuring and a stopblock included. Any advice is much appreciated!
Thank you for this useful video! I’m thinking about buying the miter gauge together with the box joint jig. I wonder if it is possible to use the box joint jig as a miter gauge fence as well??? Will it be accurate?
Hi Dennis. I just got the combination of the mitre track and box joint jig and I have one question for you about the box joint jig. Did you cut through the black plastic plate in line with the gap in the aluminium back plate? Thank you. And thanks for your comment on my Instagram post. Regards, Dan
@@HookedonWood thank you. I might try to make a sacrificial replacement board first and see how that goes. If it doesn't work then I'll go for the cut the plastic board.
Great review - and it looks like a decent clone of the Incra 27 (I've no problem saying that, given they actually have a video making the comparison on the Bangood page). What was the rail/stop you added - that looked great?
do you think these miter gauge would be compatible or installable onto a festool rail? to use with my plunge track saw? festool just came out with a new miter gague but at the festool price tag.
Axminster trade and harvey. It is the S-12. I made a video about it. It was my first video☺️ so a bit raw when you compare it with my latest one. Look at my channel
