Beauty standards are often set by entertainment industry. South Korea has a very powerful industry with efficient promotion in Asia and beyond. Look at bilibili and you'll easily see the influence over chinese younger people. Great channel outmaze. But everybody knows eating papaya makes your skin whiter, and softer. Papaya also said to be helpful to memorize hanzi for hsk exams.

Taking in great amounts of vitamin c (alot of the foods the doctor recommended) does indeed lighten the skin. Or atleast it blocks the enzyme that produces melanin by a bit

as much as skin tone is personal and shouldn't be subject to beauty standards, i do wish sun protection were prioritised more publicly here in europe. when i was young at least it felt like there was almost no public education, and even now i'm an outlier in some circles for applying sunscreen every day

I knew about the white skin obsession, but the long tall nose thing is weird to me. I (and most western men to be honest) really like Asian women, but for anybody to think Emma Watson is ugly is just incomprehensible. It's sad that somebody has to have surgery or shove a piece of plastic up their nose to chase some fad look. As I grow older the most attractive features on a woman are a genuine smile and to just be yourself.

Watson doesn't hide her freckles, which in China is the ultimate "ugliness" mark. I adore her freckles thou

The most attractive feature to me is when a woman finds me acceptable :) Unfortunately there are about 1000 impossible problems preventing that.

Question- are these standards only in N of China? What about Taiwan Province? Chinese in SE Asia? Chinese in N America? S America?

As a Chinese guy myself, I don't feel super attracted to women with extremely pale skin unlike the majority of Chinese, I feel that it makes them look like ghosts. I think a light brownish or olive hue is the most attractive. However, similar to most Chinese I do feel very attracted to large eyes with double eyelids and a smaller face, not necessarily so slim to the extent of pointy chin that's also weird but at least smaller than average and preferably with lower cheekbones. I don't deny that women with small monolid eyes and wide face can be beautiful, but they simply aren't my type. And plus I'm perhaps one of the few Chinese who think that a larger mouth with thicker lips is more attractive than a smaller one with thin lips. I'm most attracted to Far South Chinese and SE Asian women cause I feel that they closely match my criteria and preferences.

Most Chinese from the south of China have double eyelids.. It's the northerners that tend to have the slitty eyes.

Influenced by KPOP, the beauty standards of China (including East and Southeast Asian countries) have changed a lot. The style of the stars in TV shows has changed very clearly. This is true from my perspective growing up as a gen.Y. And you are the kind of European that Chinese people like I bet.

It affected southeast asian countries more than it does to China, especially when it comes to, sigh, skin tones. They are countries in Southeast Asia, for example, the Philippines that has always been having questionable aesthetic preference in the society because historical Spanish and American influences. While endorsing the lighter skin tone aesthetic standards they may be quite racist regarding certain features that are common in east Asian population due to historical racist and contemporary sinophobic sentiments. Hmong people in Vietnam don’t usually have a good experience when it comes to a sudden change of aesthetic standards due to k-hop influences.

I’ve been noticing a lot of videos on social media of really tall and extremely skinny Asian women walking through poles? But they can fit it’s just to show how skinny they are or something? idk. just seemed odd to me. they’re so tall and skinny and their legs are so long. is this real? It does seem like a fad.

My picture background board comes from my skin. It's natural to see pores, so what's your opinion? I'm a Chinese man, so why do you emphasize your wheat colored skin? What standard Westerners like is their freedom. They don't need to show superiority in front of the Chinese people. I like a white, beautiful and natural Chinese woman, rather than a European or African woman and a dark skinned Chinese woman. That's a completely different concept. Don't try to confuse some filters with surgery. What are people worried about? Question the Chinese people's choice ability and judgment on beauty?

@Yeheng Music Several of my friends are more than two meters tall, and one of them has reached an amazing 2.20M. In contrast, Shaquille O'Neal's skeleton structure is not impressive. Imagine, when he knocked on my door and saw this guy for the first time, I could only see his neck and his arms were as thick as my legs. I don't know the meaning of online data, but most of the earliest Chinese immigrants in Europe and the United States came from southern regions such as Guangdong, Fujian, Sichuan, etc. The New York Times reported this in the early 21st century and believed that the northerners of China were as tall as Americans at that time, Is it not the stereotype that Hollywood advertises that Chinese people speak Cantonese, have dark skin color, short stature, Kung Fu and eat rice? However, I don't understand half a sentence of Cantonese at all, I don't know kung fu, my skin color is not wheat color, I don't like eating rice, and my understanding of beauty is also different. I'm not interested in Hollywood publicity or China's celebrity effect. In my opinion, a beautiful girl I know in Shandong is more attractive than Marilyn Monroe, and the mixed race star minorities advocated by some Chinese people are not in my acceptance range, So do you know the difference between Chinese people?
@001-z9e
@001-z9e 2 года назад
@Yeheng Music Lol, this is basic knowledge! Han intermarriage, southern interaction, this northeast girl may have Southern descent and so on.. Southerners may also have northern ancestry, but why are there great differences between regions? Most of the ancestors of the pure Shandong people came from the Dongyi nationality 8300 years ago. At that time, the average height was more than 1.9m and the figure was strong, so some people would easily grow to two meters, while the Nordic people in the same period seemed to be less than 1.6m. On average, the same height, the figure of Shandong people was much stronger, which was not important. But why don't Chinese rich or famous people choose to marry a European woman? Even the upstart, is it really just a matter of preference? Why do some Chinese people think that beautiful women or handsome men are not so in the eyes of other Chinese people? The difference in this phenomenon is due to the genetic differences of each person, followed by regional differences.

about skin whitening... I did not buy it until I remembered: there IS food that will make you gain colour. Because I had to eat this as well when I was younger. I had sun intolerance and my skin was looking SO dull. Tomatoes carrots etc. and it worked. As for the "whitening" scientifically it may not be whitening but more like brightening. Because tanning IS an inflammatory response of the largest organ we have: skin. Tanning IS skin damage. It is dead skin cells sitting there. So all the foods listed actually are super anti oxidants which reduce inflammation and help cells regenerate this incudes skin cells. There is a difference between taking vitamin D from the sun vs tanning. So there might actually be a scientific biological logic to it. How interesting.

Im not chinese but I have bleached my skin for years and can say that there is dermatologically/scientifically tested skin bleaching ingredients that are proven effective like hydroquinone, meloquin, kojic acid, arbutin, glutathione and topical vitamin c, as well as chemical exfoliants which can peel off the more tanned top layers of skin such as tretinoin (although it doesnt reduce or inhibit melanin production the way the afformentioned products will)

asian skin is diff from white skin, when exposed to the sun, the tan on a white person look nice, but not on an asian person, due to genetic differences, therefore asians especially girls do not prefer sun bathing. also asians are rice eaters which make them generally slimmer build compared to western which has wheat and meat proteins as main diet. so asian women actually dont like muscular men especially not those really big guys. they just like tall slim males. some asian girls even find big muscle gross. especially china, throughout history, major meat protein of their diet has been just pork. they eat very little beef, and before the industrial revolution, meat has been a small part of our diet. so chinese people are very slim. as an old agriculural civilization, chinese people before the modern age has no concept of working out, building muscles, because people work all day in the fields. so bascially all beauty standards is based on the environment that shapes the culture.

It's perhaps that they don't know how to work makeup on tanned skin, that might be why you say tan looks bad on asian skin. In the West, to maintain a tan (if you're naturally pale) it involves applying foundation, bronzer and exfoliation. Personally, I've only done it twice for events, mostly because it gives definition to your features and makes you look slimmer. One thing is a natural or sunkissed tan and another is wanting to look like another race like Kim Kardashian does. The opposite is also true, i tend to find better products for pale skin in asian beauty than western.

ngl I don’t really find women with a wide jaw, slanted eyes and overly fit looking body to be attractive, the docile appearance is more of my type to be honest as described here with the exception of weight which is debatable among other things.
