Lisa stan yes,yes I did. It makes me sick too. There will always be haters on the Internet.when I said said changing ,it’s not something that happens over a few months. Or else we would still be stuck in our big fairness bubble.

I find it interesting that the heroine of the Mahabharata, Draupadi, who was considered the most beautiful woman in the world, had *skin dark as night.* Arjuna's skin was dark as night as well, and so was Krishna, before later depictions began to show him as blue. The three were called "The Three Krishnas" because the Sanskrit name: Krishna, itself means dark skin. And while I haven't gotton into the Ramayana yet, I do remember reading somewhere that his skin was dark as well. Of course, I might be wrong on that part, and would edit the comment if i am wrong.
Considering they lived in North India and were Aryas to boot unlike us, they still had Aryan features you can bet. So lets not pretend its about color. It's just the recent trend for European whiteness that has put even ugly looking 'fair' actresses to the front.
I did makeup for an African fashion show. The girls where requesting me by the second show. Black skin in all shades was so different and gorgeous and exotic to me as a lady that had only had the opportunity to use makeup on light skin. Been to India many times, and I just love their diversity of features. When going to Tamil Nadu one can see people very dark skinned, with the brightest teeth and darkest straight hair. And when going north one can see faired skinned people, with very different facial structure. God never made this world as something homogeneus. Diversity is the norm in creation. Love to India!
And guess what, the dark skin isn’t even celebrated not even where, 90% is dark skinned. Media still portrays heroines and female icons as well as men as fair skinned. Honestly you just have to look straight out of a powder puff to be successful in media.

I want to put it out there that when Indians say they prefer light skin, they don’t mean the ideal skin color is that of white people. The ideal skin color would be light brown or the the Persian color (and that of North Indians from Punjab, Jammu, Himachal, Haryana, Gujarat etc) And this was true before any white person stepped foot in the continent. The Manusmirti mentions the ideal color as ‘not too dark neither too white’. No one wants to be white. I’m saying this because a lot of white people have this delusion that Indians want to look like them. That’s not true at all.
I feel like most Indians have the "non ideal"skin color, most even in north are a shade of brown more so than light like bollywood portrays.I feel Light skin with certain features would look so bad . India has such a different look than persian and Middle Eastern, the face size body frame seems smaller and more rounded in general than West Asia, if you walk around a vegetable market almost anywhere in india you'll see what I'm saying. I see muslim south asians trying to claim that they look more persian and arab and unless they descendents of persio turkic families or Iranic pathans they really dont look that different, only a little difference but not closer to anygroup just different. Some desis still got mughal hangover huh. The region is so diverse and interesting
@thomas andersonWhat? Who told you this haha? they are definitely not seen as gods, more like outsiders and elites if you don't have much interaction with them, non mumbai people for instance. If you are a mumbai residents, especially older stock, the views towards parsis is fairly positive but since they segregate themselves, they are a little mystery.
A lot of 'activism' now a days is all about making us ashamed for striving for the looks of our ancestors, casting the natural looks and colors of our civilization-builders as 'non-Indian'. It's a deep conspiracy. I mean entire communities, entire region of people have those features, regardless of color. Yet the conspiracy is to tell Indians we do not look like that. We should either look like Europeans or the internationally idealized black skinned persons. Never mind neither of these have Indian features. Forget skin color, but we should not be ashamed of idealizing our ancestors' features, since they are unique in this world.
Lots of people in South Asia, especially in Northwest India and Pakistan (incl. Punjab-Haryana-Himachal, Kashmir, Rajasthan, Delhi) already have the 'ideal' skin colour (a fair-wheatish-olive complexion) (notice I didn't say PALE).
@@AR-mv3zh yeah but the region has 7% of Indias population and light skined people less than that, only 20% or so of that region so thats 1% of india and .5% would be attractive among that and the rest of india spread through out combined would have .5% "ideal"skin and features. @@rianne_9042 cuz most of them are not south Indian. For the ones that are, they only accept fair actresses in South India. We need a reform but we only see growing fans of these fair actresses in compared to darker ones. We ourselves are to blame
You guys don’t get just how much skin color affects being cast in film roles. In southern India, tollywood and kollywood often cast women from the north, because they usually have fairer skin. Even if the actress can’t speak in that language, she’s cast solely based on her skin tone. Even worse, in recent years, I’ve seen a few white British women who are cast as the main Indian female lead, like Amy Jackson. It’s really sad that they don’t cast people of their own ethnicity to represent themself. A lot of South Asian actresses aren’t south Asian, they're from the north.
I know that there wasn't enough time to dive into this in detail, but it would have been interesting to hear more about other Indian standards of beauty like large dark eyes. Even today, there are a lot of praises sung about that 'kala kajal' lining dark eyes. Only recently have they begun to praise lighter eyes and that is in contrast to historical perceptions of lighter eyes. In "Sea of Poppies" which takes place in the 1830s, Ghosh refers to how a hazel-eyed woman is considered a 'witch' for her light eyes, which is in contrast to today. It would have also been worth mentioning the role that hair plays in SA beauty.

So standards in American Africans would be different from East Africans.
I think some things you missed were - height. very important in South Asian that you are tall, for males thats 5’10 and above, for females 5’5 and above. - eyes. South asians generally have much larger eyes, you can see it in quite a few of the paintings you showed. Lighter eye colour is also considered quite important even if the features of the individual are not that great. - cheeks. South Asians all tend to have rounded and noticeable cheekbones. Somethings I want to add - there is a clear difference in the way skin colour is defined between men and women. Men can have skin colour that is much darker and still be considered attractive as long as they have good features and a good physique. Unlike other ethnicities our noses fit with our faces because all of our features tend to be bigger and more defined.
You exxagerated the height thing. I'd argue that in india for males it is atleast 5'7 and above and for women it is atleast 5'2 and above. Above 5'10 for men and above 5'5 for women is considered "too tall" in our culture. And you're completely wrong about "lighter eye colour" preference. Its extremely rare here to have green/blue/hazel eyes. Large "dark" eyes have stayed as a classic beauty standard throughout ages in india.

The reason Ghandara art is more authentic is bc of the presence of some of the largest education institutions such as 'Taxila' in the Indian subcontinent under the rule of 'Mauryans' (350-100 BC) who advocated art and architecture. You should look into the Navratan (9 gems): 9 famous scholars who changed the course of history forever with their discoveries and talent. It's not bc of any influence from 'Aryans' or Greeks. As much as I liked the video, this video seemed very limited in its research and seemed to focus on a certain narrative (the Aryan Invasion Theory). Sadly, the video discounts the many religious as well as political differences of many regions that Indian subcontinent was divided in the ancient times. The artistic representation of women was limited due to these differences and proclaiming them to be an ideal representation of 'Indian' women is a reach. Looking forward to more videoes on these channels with a more thorough research.

Not true, honey boo 😁 beauty comes in all colours in my opinion. It is well known that latinos, indians and asians in general _worship_ white individuals. Let's not forget, black people age much better than other races (better skin, better muscle tone, better teeth etc)
And it's the opposite for Western beauty, tan and darker skin is considered more beautiful. It's funny that people always want what they don't have lol
everyone has to be the same 2-3 shades it’s so irritating. That’s why beauty standards are stupid when u think abt it, how boring would our world be if we all looked the same?? humans didn’t evolve to have different faces for no reason XD
The picture you showed Aishwarya Rai itself is a south indian So there's nothing called south is dark North is fair Both North and South has different skin tones
i mean it depends. south is usually cast as dark skinned people bec it's nearer to the equator and hence they have more melanin(darkening pigment) to protect them from the sun that's why people from south usually have the best skin while north is colder, less sunlight and also the aryan mixed population is higher there so that's why they've lighter skin

A vid on middle eastern or specifically Arabian beauty standards would be nice! When it comes to noses - I’ve noticed lots of people think of more down turned noses or even hooked noses as characteristic of middle easterners, but I actually haven’t noticed it to be significantly greater in middle easterners than in Europeans (maybe when it comes to a neutral nasal angle or a downturned one, it might be a little more common in Arabs than north Europeans? But Europe is pretty big, so I’m comparing mostly to the UK, where I haven’t noticed much of a difference tbh), and I’ve lived in both an Arabian country and the UK. I know that, for gulf Arabs at least, there is a flexibility in what nose shapes are considered beautiful, as long as it’s small and proportionate to the face. Shape isn’t as important, but both straight noses and upturned noses are admired. When it comes to Bedouin Arabs specifically, there’s a word for upturned sloped noses - something like ‘sword’ nose, and it is considered beautiful, but straight noses are also admired, and a neutral ‘nasal angle’(?) is preferred over a downturned nose, but it isn’t like specifically noted if it’s just a slight down turn. Upturned sloped noses wouldn’t be a beauty standard for Bedouin Arabs of all people if it wasn’t possible for Arabs to have it as a nose, and I have noticed a good number of people with it. When it comes to skin color, Arabs can get both very pale and very tan when the seasons change, especially gulf Arabs who are on average darker skinned than Levantine Arabs. When I went to the UK for a few months I came back to my country pale. You can see it with older photos of Arabs who had to work in the sun a lot and who look quite dark skinned and then modern pictures of office worker Arabs where they look much lighter. Funnily enough it was the darker skinned older generation who considered it more of a beauty standard to have fair skin, while now the lighter skinned teenagers and young adults admire the tanned look and consider it very cool and chic - though fair skin is still considered pretty. Finally, there are African and African descent Arabs who have dark skin, so that’s a whole different topic that I admittedly don’t know enough about! Umm, for bodies, ‘tall’ (5’4 -5’7) and ‘petite’ curvy is stylish, but very curvy is more of the standard and slightly tall with long legs is preferred. A /little/ weight isn’t a big deal if you’re curvy. There’s a soft spot for naturally curly hair, but manufactured curls and waves is most stylish in the younger generation while the straight dark hair is the timeless standard. Thick hair is a beauty standard. Lighter hair is admired. So are lighter eyes. Eyes are a big part of beauty. Full lips are the standard too, even very full lips are admired. Femininity is a big part of the beauty standard, but womanly femininity is preferred over girlish feminist in grown women. Strong jaws are admired. They don’t shy away from womanly beauty, but they do still appreciate neoteny and cuteness, but when it comes to most young adults and older adults western beauty standards are more familiar than say East Asian ones. Quite a lot of teenage girls though are now starting to gravitate towards East Asian type of beauty, with more girlish charm. Oh, eyebrows are also important, but as long as they fit your face it doesn’t really matter. They’ve gone through different fads, from thin brows to thick brows and from arched brows to straight ones, so a specific type doesn’t really matter. Unique beauty is appreciated as well, which is why lighter hair or eye color is accepted as beautiful even with older people and why a lot of body types are considered beautiful and also why tan skin was quick to become popular here. Oh, being stylish is also very very important. And dimples are considered a beauty standard - I think this one is mentioned a lot in my country because I’ve noticed lots of people with dimples in my Arabic country but I was the only one with dimples in the UK, even though it’s a bigger country and I’ve travelled around a lot I haven’t seen a single person with dimples! While in my small country I encounter people with dimples quite often, and it is considered a beauty standard. Wow I’ve rambled. I really just wanted to note that ski slope noses are a beauty standard with Bedouin Arabs (but straight is also pretty), and with the younger generation of Arabs as well.
I agree :) I'm from the north of yemen and my family is very typically arab looking in terms of skin colour, very olive/yellow toned tan. I have a ski-slope nose! it's straight, small, and slightly upturned at the end. It's very round though, very button-ish which annoys me a lot because I look like a child lmao. My mother calls it a 'fudsa' which I think means like a squished thing like a tomato :'). And yeah, I think hair is super important. thick healthy, smooth hair. Also having some weight on you is preferred, I'm always being told to eat more.
I'm a bedouin Arab and my entire family (clan) don't have a big hooked nose. Some are straight and most are ski slope nose (natural nose). It's so small that they can't breath. We have different shades from light to tan skin tone. But all of us have sharp curve. All my family members have curvy body, they are one of the curvest clan out there. They have a small bone structure with large breast, perky bum and small waist. The problem is that the butt never stops growing it becomes heavy. Most bedouin grow their hair long to their hips and most don't dye it until marriage or mid 20s. I rarely met a bedouin with large nose most foreigners think we have big nose even other Middle Easterns.
@@alaaal-subaie7955 That's so crazy! I wish I had the large breasts lmao, but I do have the small frame and curvier figure. To be honest it's just my dad and brother that have the big nose, my other siblings and my mum have thinner smaller noses, and I have the ski slope nose. I think it depends from family to family, like I can see bigger noses in my father's side and longer thinner noses in my mother's side. No clue where mine came from.
Those arabs who are dark skin their orginated come from india the real areb are children of Babylonian men Abraham( his son ishmael ) and the arabic language started from syria wich is levantin Those gulf people are not real arabs they were tribes who came from india that’s why they looks like indian and they eat like indian(with their hands) they act like indian their food is orginated indian when they talk they use their hand and head just like indians, And with yemen their were ancient civilizations with three kingdoms with their own language and script Those fake arabs(originated indian tribes) They started to call those three kingdoms yemen which in arabic means the right side and those arabs started dominate their land and those three ancient civilization kingdoms become arabized until they forget their entire history and language and civilization. The people of gulf are indian not real arabs they’re not grandchildren of babylonian men abraham it’s reality
meh, we don't have a standard per say. And I don't want him to. Most westerners miss the mark when they speak about Africa. I'd rather we have no content, than for us to have crappy content.
South Indian, half Dravidian half black (Ethiopian mom) (skin tone- expresso back) bullied all my school life till 10th. it stopped because i was 6'1 pushing 85kg at that time now it is even better 6'4 🙂
Maybe it's the political climate in the US, but these beauty videos are really hitting hard. I wish so much I could disappear to a place where being Black or having very dark skin wasn't seen as awful. It's just exhausting and for what, pigmentation? It's so stupid, yet so hurtful.
There are lots of tribes and communities in India where being dark would be considered beautiful like it was in the ancient times, it's just that they don't influence mainstream media but have their small local industries instead
Hey! I saw a video about beauty standards in central africa (rlly sorry I can't remember where exactly), and the standard is very, very black smooth skin, very white teeth, and very white eyes. like Lupita Nyongo :) And the woman was STUNNING. The women there even tan to make their skin even darker. I can see why. Black skin looks so healthy and porcelain, almost like it's not real :0
and this is only because we only here about beauty standards from countries where their skin is in the middle, so pale skin feel achievable and is therefore a standard. Give African countries time to enter mainstream media and the global standards will balance out :)
As a dark skin I used be shame of my skin color wanting to be fair but now after seeing inspiring dark skin south asian celebrates embracing them I started to feel loved and love my dark skin
As an individual from Nagaland, I am so glad and happy to see that you’ve included us and our flag. Often times we tend to be neglected by our very own Indians. Not all of them but have personally met with a lot of other Indians who doesn’t even know about Nagaland.
ignorant people are everywhere, and the more ignorant they are it's easier for them to stereotype people, ignorant people in central India may not know much about the north east or our island territories, just like people from northeast may not know much about Karnataka or Uttrakhand, its easy to forget these things and blow these anecdotal observations out of proportions, as a country we still have a long way to go, and still lots to learn about our own people I'm from j&k as well haha
My skin literally has all the range of light olive to mid brown lol. Like it's kinda weird that my chin is darker then it's surrounding areas which is more of a golden olive. It's the same with my lighter under eye area and then my darker forehead. My hands are a mid brown but my arms are olive. My biggest suggestion for all is to wear sunscreen and make sure to cleanse properly.
Hey, I am from India, I love your videos. I wanna tell you about beauty standards in our regions. Whenever my mom or my aunt sees a girl, they mostly talk about fair skin, not really whiter but normal fair skin, then straight bigger nose. Whenever she or any woman in our area sees a small plump nosed woman, from their perspective she's not beautiful. Then comes teeth, they prefer whiter, square shaped teeth. And lastly hairs, they say "How long, black, shiny and silky hair she has !" This was the test of beauty standards for woman here when people see for a bride. In my childhood, I was given partial treatment in my school because I wasn't as fair as my friends, neighbours and school teachers. But when I watched black woman, women with small and not straight nose, with short hairs as top models on internet I was surprised and happy.
The beauty standard in bangladesh from what I've seen so far and if i have it: - white skin ✅ - skinny but not TOO skinny ✅ - height between 157 cm 170 cm❌ - big dark brown eyes❌ - straight black hair ❌ - straight nose ✅
The scariest thing is that now in India the statues of gods are white skinned.. some with blonde hair and blue eyes. They used to be tanned/ dark statues.
It was interesting to see the bit about nose. I'm from Bangladesh. My nose tip actually goes up, which is actually not considered as attractive. My mother would forbide me to wipe my nose upwards when I was a child, so that I don't get a "pig snout". I got upturned nose nevertheless lol.
The more of your videos I watch, the more I appreciate all different kinds of beauty around the world, it is truly eye-opening and I just wanted to say thank you :)
When are you guys going to make South East Asian beauty standard video? South Asian beauty standards is pretty unique in my opinion, I feel a lot of people in the Southern parts of Asia wants to look more mixed than the East Asians. Philippines would probably be a good in-depth study for South East beauty standards :)
Well South Asia is mixed. I can speak on Pakistan, half of our country is iranic; people look Afghan/irani. The other half is Indic, and they look North Indian. East Asians countries don’t have that type of diversity from what I’ve seen. They mostly all look alike and their features don’t vary as much as south Asian countries do.
