Thirty Minutes Per Earring!
The Chinese Cornlerless Cube is fast, easy and fun. Go from start to finish in 30 minutes or less, with most types of beads. Each earring takes 24 beads.
Like a Cube with its Corners Cut Off
The Chinese Cornerless Cube beading technique makes a beaded bead shaped like a cube with its corners cut off - which really looks more like a sphere. I'm calling this beading technique SPHERICAL RIGHT ANGLE WEAVE or SRAW. Back in 2005, with David Chatt's permission, I named his right angle weave beading technique "Cubic Right Angle Weave" - which other beaders soon shortened to CRAW. While David is a master of CRAW, SRAW was developed by Chinese beaders alone.

Easy to Learn
If you know flat right angle weave or cubic right angle weave (CRAW), you'll learn Spherical Right Angle Weave (SRAW) easily. Even if you don't know right angle weave - my videos will show you just what to do.
Beads That Work Best
What beads work best for a Cornerless Cube? Beads shaped like spheres rather than pancakes. Plump seed beads will work nicely - as will fully round beads. More tutorials on this technique and its variations coming asap.
Beads Used in This Video
The beads I'm using in this video are Czech 6 mm red druks. But 4 mm red druks will work too. For each earring, you need 24 beads. Below is a link to an Etsy seller offering similar beads. If you order beads through this link, I will receive a small commission to help keep this channel going.

Origins of This Technique
Where was Spherical Right Angle Weave beading technique invented? In China. How do I know? In 2000, while at the Hong Qiao ("Red Bridge") pearl market in Beijing, I watched pearlweavers using this technique to make small beaded beads. You'll see a photo of one of the pearl weavers when you watch this video. The same photo appears in my book, The Art of Beadwork: Historic Inspiration, Contemporary Design (2005). It went out of print long ago but you can probably find a copy for very little on Amazon. It's full of beading photos - and beading techniques.
Stay Tuned for More Chinese Beading Techniques!
The Chinese Cornerless Cube Beaded Bead is only one of many beaded beads invented in China. I'll be posting more Chinese beading techniques (or adaptations of techniques) soon. I have at least a dozen to show you....well, more like 2 dozen, really....or more, if we include variations.
Origins of "Cornerless Cube"
The term "Cornerless Cube" comes from bead scholarship. It describes a specific kind of bead shape resembling a cube with its corners cut off. It's as much like a cube as a sphere, in my opinion. Cornerless cube-shaped glass beads have been made in Europe and elsewhere.

@@valeriehector Absolutely! Beading isn't easy as many would believe, making videos isn't either - I tried. Teaching beadwork is incredibly challenging, but you are making truly fantastic videos - thank you so much!

Can you do a five bead start to make it a slider bead?
@valeriehector
@valeriehector 7 месяцев назад
Good morning, @carolhyman5178 - that's a great question! I don't think it will work - but why not give it a try? There is another Chinese technique for producing a beaded dodecahedron - it's also easy - I'll be posting a video on it soon. Beaded dodecahedrons make fabulous slider beads in most cases. The Meanwhile, you might try searching RU-vid for "beaded dodecahedron" and see if any videos pop up. Now, it may go by other names that I don't know. But at least that gives you a place to start. But my video will post in the week if not sooner.
