Same here 3 years flawless. Regular diesel. Got one in my shop, and one in my van.

I have mine now for about 6 months and works perfect. I use kerosine...a little bit more cost but a very claen burn..My heater is on the outside . Combustion iar is taken from the outside..heater air is taken from the inside , it takes the warmed up air and is more efficient this way..I do not need to warm up the cold air from ouside this way. The exhaust air I run thru a radiator so no heat is wasted. Of course the heater is above outside and the exhaust is running from the top of the radiator to the bottom where it leaves the room thru the wall..

Thanks for the comment ! I actually ran mine on diesel for 4 days, after this video, and it ran flawlessly and actually cleaned itself out (I took it apart before and after to see). I bought this specifically to burn waste oil so I will keep experimenting.

Yep... as I understand it, if you try to run this with cruddy oil and you're NOT running it full out at its hottest, you're definitely going to have problems with buildup.

@@haydenharris3059 Yes it does sound like a 1st class suite on Emirates or Qatar airways! Living on my sailboat for the last three years and this is one of my most loved pieces of equipment on my boat. Since I wrapped the fuel pump in soundproofing and tightly in upholstery foam it is silent, and the recirculation airfan white noise is super soothing while the boat is rocking me asleep in freezing winter nights!

LOl... You should think about writing lyrics to songs or poetry, that was beautiful. If you look at the title of the video, it does say "Chinese Diesel Heater". I say in this video that they run great on diesel 👍. The very first of the video points out that, I am indeed an idiot and that you shouldn't do what I do (you shouldn't run these on alternative fuels) "I'm looking at the man in the mirror 🎶I'm asking him to change his ways, his message couldn't be any clearer, if you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and make a change 🎶" I think the only name calling I did here was to tall people idiots for spreading misinformation, and for claiming that these things run on waste oil trouble free.... The heater is placed high so that it is out of the way, but still accessible for my tests / experiments (if you watch more videos, you will see) I'm not concerned about max efficiency, just making it work. (on waste oil) 2. I'm a mechanic and feel like the concern about bending the exhaust is exaggerated considering the fact that it is 5kw. I do change / test this in following videos. 3.This is a long answer, but... others on youtube / the internet have claimed that it works perfectly well. I have a supply of waste oil that I either have to dispose of or burn. Diesel is $2/L where I am and kerosene is $4/L and the oil is "free" so it cost me whatever I mix with it.

The unit should be mounted high enough to allow a fan to blow across the straight down or steeply sloping down exhaust. I use 40 percent ULTRA filtered waste oil and/or veggie oil, 60 percent diesel, 10 percent petrol in my second manifolded tank, straight diesel/heating oil/kerosene in my first manifolded tank. Start and 10 minute high power shut down on diesel, run on waste mix.

HAHA. ... I'm going to get fired from working on your stuff for reckless endangerment. This video doesn't who that, the the opening scene with the glowing exhaust is one case where it could have happened.

I didn't see that anywhere on my one page manual, (Purchased from VEVOR) but I'm not complaining about it not burning crap... I'm complaining about other people saying that it will burn crap... I totally wouldn't have thought that it would burn waste oil, because it doesn't burn well, or clean.... but then I saw a bunch of people claim that it would burn lots of crap. So yes... I'm not complaining about the unit, or the manufacturer, or the seller of this unit. I'm annoyed that there are people on the internet telling other people that these things burn waste oil for years with no issues.

Hello Charles. I am aware of the weep hole. I realize that this is not correct but I wasn't concerned about it. I had a CO detector in my garage and don't sleep in there. I have, since this video, stopped using the muffler altogether.

No.. it does NOT spew out a stream of CO. even at highest power the amount of clean exhaust coming out is MINISCULE. I have experime Ted and found zero issues and NO moisture since no time for condensation if 1 foot away.

Well said ! I can't stand videos of people saying you can heat your home ... all that is 100% is people using fear to get views ...There's a lot of concern about the world ending and fuel prices etc.... so the "how to heat your home almost free" videos get massive views. I'm making this video series to try to show people that most of this is complete nonsense and if you burn anything but diesel (and diesel like fuels, you're probably going to have issues. I have run mine on diesel, and my latest video (part 6) I show that diesel actually does a pretty good job of cleaning out the heater after I had been using waste oil.

Thanks for the comment ! I have been experimenting with the heater a lot after this video, tested lots of things and I have even tried feeding hot air into the inlet directly... While this does cause the temp to rise, it is not substantial. This heater tends to run perfectly fine on diesel, I have run it on diesel for 7 days non stop now, with no issues at all, 5 or those days at the max heat setting. I have been experimenting with different diesel / oil mix ratios. At 50/50 I was still having issues, so I think I need to do more investigation and experiments. I will try the 60/40 mix.

Yes, I'm burning waste motor oil and this is the whole problem. The whole issue is that there are many people claiming that these heaters run fine on any old crap, and it's just not true.

Filtering oil is not fun. If it's used you have to filter it. Also it's best if you add fresh fuel. 3 old, 1 fresh. If not you'll get lots of smoke.

@@blakeps192 I do some very basic filtering, but should likely use a finer filter as well as a centrifuge ... but, yeah, that's a lot of work. That being said, I have done a lot of testing with new motor oil and come to the conclusion that the contamination is not the main issue with my oil ... the main issue is that it is oil, and not diesel, haha.

I was thinking just straight petrol? (it's cheaper than diesel), here.... It would run much hotter on lower settings and thus become more effiecient consuming fuel. Just a thought... 👍

@@mickgatz214 I do believe that you can purchase these heaters that are set up to run on petrol. David McLuckie has done tests trying to burn pure gasoline and had some issues. He ended up modifying the chamber (I believe to slow the burn) and got it to work okay.

James, for an exhaust gas recovery system I ran the 1" exhaust into a 10' x 4" pipe and by the time it leaves that pipe it's only 5-8 degrees above room temp. Just watch out for exhaust back pressure , the slightest increase and it won't run properly

Yes... I have zero complaints about the heater.... I love the heater and have 4 of them now. I'm complaining about people who make false claims, not about the heater.

I would love to be funny and just say "maybe if you watched the video, you would know why people do what you ask..." but not everyone has a good enough sense of humor for that... so I definitely won't say that.🤣 Seriously though. The point of this video is that there are a bunch of people on the internet claiming that these heaters run well on all sorts of waste oils. This video has saved many people from wasting their time and money, thinking that this actually works. I have a few of these heaters, and they are awesome little units... and yes, the work great on diesel. Cheers.

Totally agree !! I just got another one to install in my truck... video went up today. I have abused this one for a LONG time... but my new one gets diesel only.

Thanks for the comment ! The heater is placed where it is, for now, so that it is accessible for experiments, but out of the way. In the future, if I get it to work well for more than a few days, I will change the location. These heaters work really well at burning diesel ! I'm actually getting another one sent to me by VEVOR to do more realistic testing, but I bought this one specifically for trying to burn waste oil. Cheers !

I thought I explained this in the video... at least the basics ... however, there are lots of reasons. I'm not saying anything bad about the heaters... I have 4 of them now and they are freekin awesome... i run 3 of them on diesel and those three work flawlessly 👍 This video series has saved hundreds of people from making the mistake of trying to burn "alternative fuels" / waste oil, in their diesel heater. Althogh it should seem fairly obvious, when there are people on the internet "showing" how their heater worked for 3 years with no issues burning crap, many people, myself included, try it out of desperation.

Thanks for the comment / input ! Yes... engine oil in general is designed not to burn. They put all sorts of additives into it to help it lubricate and be heat resistant... this does not end up being a very good fuel... and that's before it's used. After it's used, it has wear metals from the engines and lots of combustion byproducts. If you get a "perfect burn" you are still left with all of these contaminants / additives that do not burn. They have to exit the system somehow. If you are lucky and there's a lot of turbulence, maybe it comes out the exhaust ...

That's why you use vegetable oil, dingus.

I haven't seen any evidence that veg oil would work better, and I have seen a few tests with it that show it doesn't perform that well, however I have not tested it myself. The whole reason I'm using waste oil is because I have a supply of it as part of my job... I have to get rid of it some way. I would have to source veg oil, even if it was free it wouldn't make sense for me.

Yes, this is very true. The glow plug pulls a lot of amps on start up, and shuts off once the heater is running.

Thanks for the comment. There are a few good reasons, and a lot of not so good reasons. These things vent the exhaust outside, so if you have an area that is fairly well sealed, you don't need to worry about CO poisoning. They are very compact and don't take up floor space. They don't require any space in front of the heater due to high temps coming out, they can be turned on and off with a remote control. You can set a target temperature and they will heat to that point and go to low heat mode until the temp drops. They are between 2 and 5 kw so perfect for a small area, where a torpedo heater is too much. They are also used in RVs, campers etc.... so there are plenty of good reasons. People also purchase them as back up heaters for their house as an emergency. I don't think these are a good primary heating source for your house, or a large area as they just don't make enough heat. Torpedo heaters are great for large open areas and make lots of heat, but they also consume a lot of fuel.

@@loweredexpectations4927 they don't produce any CO, if they did they wouldn't be allowed to sell them. They run in a lean burn state, so all you get is CO2 and water. And you don't waste any heat by pumping it outside as exhaust. Yes they may burn more fuel per time, but they are heating the space more efficiently with that fuel. A two car garage can be up to 70° in like 5 minutes and then the thermostat kicks the heater off until it cools down. If you were to run it continuously it would be 150° in there.

@@agentjwa Maybe it was an older one, but I have seen videos of people testing them and they produce CO. I have worked with them several times in fairly open areas and I can't stand the smell or sound of them. I can't imagine using in in something as small as a two car garage. What you are saying is true, they dont' waste heat pumping it outside, and they do heat up an area quickly. I feel like they are good for an uninsulated area, a barn or worksite, but yeah, I can't imagine using one in a two car garage.

@@loweredexpectations4927 the problem is sometimes they get out of adjustment or the nozzle gets slightly clogged and they start to run rich, that's why you can smell them. But with the little research and a $20 fuel pressure gauge you can adjust the pressure and get them running perfect and they don't smell like anything and don't burn your eyes. I've actually bought about 10 of them from friends and co-workers because they quit working, almost every single one was clogged fuel filter or someone messed with the fuel pressure without knowing what they're doing because they just see a screw on the back of it and start messing with it. I usually get them for about 10 to 20 bucks and sell them on craigslist for $150 or so after maybe 15 bucks in parts and a half hour of labor.

@@agentjwa Right on ! Sounds like a good deal for you, haha. The ones that I have the most experience with were units on job sites... The most I ever did was put fuel in them... I'm guessing that every one of them was from a rental place, was abused and only "serviced" when it refused to work at all. I honestly have zero idea of how they work ... I've never looked at a diagram of watched a video of one being taken apart / repaired.

I found your comment by scrolling through ... YT didn't inform me... odd... Anyway. Thanks for the detailed comment. I think a lot of my issue may be that I am using oil from air cooled engines... It's had a pretty rough life by the time it comes out, it's already burnt up pretty bad and has a lot of contamination. I am currently using a two layer cotton filter, so better filtration may help some. I have tried half and half diesel, but I am still testing... currently 1/3. At half and half, it would cost me more to burn waste oil than it would cost me to use my natural gas heaters. Experimenting to find something that is hopefully cost effective. I have played with restricting air flow ... are you talking about on the combustion air or the ambient air? I have tried both, but not long term. I didn't connect the exhaust because I have really really bad luck with every single purchase that i make, and I fully expected that it wouldn't work at all, and I'd have to immediately take it apart. I had only watched a few videos at that point tho, yes. I also run my jetski in my garage, and I promise you, an 1100cc two stroke is much more nasty than this heater.... I'm not sure how I'm spreading misinformation? First off, the start of the video says not to do things that I do because I take unnecessary risks. I go on to say that what I did didn't work well and that these can be dangerous. I show that garage filled with smoke and then I show that my exhaust caught on fire... This is pretty clearly all stuff that you don't want .... right ? Just like you were able to understand that these things were clearly not good... others will get the same idea. I installed it on a shelf as it was easy, out of the way and it was close to my ventilation duct. The only drawbacks are that it is a pain in the butt to get to and heat naturally rises. I point the vent down and it works fine. I may move it for ease of accessibility at some point. Yes, the muffler has a condensate hole in it... I am quite aware of this, just like every motor vehicle. I'm guessing you have never taken a confined space or hazardous materials safety training ? I have. I have family friends, a father and son, who died in their home made camper from carbon monoxide... Just like everyone else who dies from it, they died in their sleep. It's not something to be complacent about, but the symptoms are REALLY obvious, and if you are awake, there's no way you'd stay in a room and die... I get that you are concerned but you are able to pick up on the fact that I almost burnt my garage down ... I'm guessing that anyone who watched the video noticed... This is an accurate representation of what can happen if you don't do a proper install and play with alternative fuels... I didn't try to pretend that the heater worked well, or that my exhaust caught on fire and could have caused a fire... I do edit these videos, and I could have easily edited that out.... Now THAT would be misinformation and that would be dangerous... Scooter and dirt bike mufflers generally will have condensate holes as well... They also produce condensate. I'm guessing some cheap chinese ones don't ... but many of them have more leaks than a condensate hole. I actually got done filming an intro for my next video just a few hours ago and because nothing really obviously bad or crazy happened, the first thing I did was give a safety warning. Sounds like a cool lawnmower !! You're talking about the flaming exhaust ? I'm guessing that your lawnmower is running rich, most of them do.... also, your engine should have a brake to slow the engine when you shut it off... if not, the fuel will keep dumping in when you kill the engine and lots of unburnt fuel will end up in the muffler... then when you go to start it next time BANG ! It's pretty exciting.

Yes, I have been testing / experimenting with waste oil mixes and have had several issues. I now have a whole series of videos dedicated to this topic. I recommend using diesel, but for me it is not economical as it is over twice the price of natural gas. (i have two NG heaters in my garage)

Yes, but this video got 55K views, haha. Seriously though. This series was made because there are many people on forums and in videos, claiming these heaters can burn anything. I have had a lot of people comment saying they were going to try burning waste oil, but after seeing my videos, have changed their mind. 👍 I was fairly confident it would plug the heater up in time, maybe a few months, as they burn a small amount of fuel, but the truth is just a few hours.

Thanks for the comment. The "replace the fuel line" is a very common misconception. Several RU-vidrs and bloggers claim this, but their reasoning is flawed, once you understand how these heaters actually work. I do run a 80 micron inline filter. I'm sure that a finer one would be better, but not sure that it would help at all with the end result. I plan on doing a test in the near future to prove that the quality of fuel line does not matter at all. Not trying to pick on you, by the way, I have gotten this comment a lot and just try to set people strait.

I am using filtered waste oil... however, there are lots of different levels of filtration, and I could do better. I'm fairly certain that 95% diesel would work just fine, but at that point, it is not at all cost effective. I have two natural gas heaters in my garage with a total of 280,000 BTU, but I got one of these to burn waste oil as I have a steady supply and it is free. It's not looking promising, but I will continue with my experimentation to see if there is something that I can do that is cost effective. I have run mine on diesel several times now and it actually cleans up some of the garbage that is left behind from burning the waste oil... No issues at all.

Yes... they are wonderfun units when used as diesel heaters. Unfortunately there are a lot of people making claims that they will burn just about anything, trouble free. I now have an 18 video series about my attempts to burn oil to 1. Show people that it is a challenge and 2. Try to save some money and 3. because it's entertaining.

Sorry I missed your comment. Just seeing it now. I get what you are saying about them being "diesel heaters" but lots of diesel engines will run on all sorts of stuff, as long as it's filtered. Also, they make these heaters that do run on gasoline and diesel. Adding to the confusion is the fact that there a whole bunch of people saying that they have run these on nasty waste oil for years without issue... why would someone lie about that ? I'm guessing you don't live in a very cold climate, if your heater is able to keep your house at 20C. I'm curious as to why it cost so much more to run a gas boiler ? Also, gas as in natural gas, propane ? I have the opposite issue here.... diesel / home heating oil are both about$2 a litre, and it's often -20 to -30C. My "8kw" (really 5kw) heater can't even keep my garage at over 14C and on diesel it would be about 10L a day, about $600 a month about $200 more than it cost to heat my house and garage combined, on natural gas. RU-vid is where I always turn for information, and I usually watch enough videos so that I can pick through the trash and find the little nuggets of good info. Thanks for the comment. Cheers.

I've watched the video... I'm curious if it would work with motor oil. He is using cooking oil. Adding the paraffin adds quite a bit of cost to the fuel as it is about $6 per litre. I may give it a try.

I agree. I have 4 and 3 of them only get diesel. Awesome product. These videos aren't saying anything bad about the. heaters, they are pointing out that burning waste oil is a bad idea ... just in a creative way. This is part one of over 30, haha.

Oh, yes... I know all about these complications... especially now after 18 videos in this series, haha. The cost of off road diesel / heating oil, where I am is as much or more than regular diesel as it is not commonly used and if you do get it, you have to purchase it in large quantity (minimum $500) or pay a crazy delivery fee. We use natural gas here and while I do have two natural gas heaters (280,000 btu total), I purchased this to burn waste oil based on what some people on the internet claimed. Shame on me for not doing more research, shame on them for... not telling the whole truth.

Engine oil has less energy than diesel ? Are you sure about that ? Waste oil won't kill the pump quickly, because I have as I have over 1200 hours of use on mine at full heat, with no signs of failure. Works perfectly. Waste oil will clog up the burn chamber pretty quickly. I have also experienced this every few days for 4 months strait... It clogs up even if you mix with diesel or run it on diesel for a hour every 4 hours. Kerosene seems to work pretty well based on what several people have reported. It doesn't lubricate as well as diesel, so I assume in several thousand hours the pump may wear out.

@@loweredexpectations4927 Petrol 46mj. Crude oil 31mj diesel 39mj. Waste cooking oil avg 33mj. So yes, generally more energy in diesel, and is designed to burn, waste oil will have less as it has been used and is full of contaminants. Do you have an inline filter, that would make a difference to the life of the pump, not trying to be difficult, take care. Mike S

My girlfriend / common law is leaving and as a result I may be losing my house, more importantly my garage etc.... so I'm a little on edge, haha. Ok... I figured out where the confusion is / was... I have always used energy by volume and not mass. Crazy how much difference that makes. Diesel is 38.6/L and Petrol is 34.2 and crude oil is 37. Using volume makes more sense to me, because the pump is delivering a fixed volume fuel and you generally have a fix volume tank. Purely a guess, but I would assume that engine oil has slightly more energy than crude. Absolutely, diesel has been engineered for almost a 100 years to burn clean, without leaving crap behind... and engine oil is designed not to burn. Contaminants or not, it has additives and it is also has lots of naturally occurring stuff that just doesn't burn well. I do filter my oil in a very crude way before it goes into the tank, and then an inline filter before it goes to the pump. Cheers and thanks for replying !

Thanks for the comment. Yes, not an ideal situation to have any self installed heat source in your house. Insurance companies have a habit of doing what they can to get out of paying. I currently have one in my work truck.... running on diesel only.

Thanks for the comment. The location of my heater was chosen for ease of access as I had a feeling like I would have to work on it often. What you say about the hot air into the inlet is true but not really substantial. You have been running 3 parts kitchn oil and 1 part diesel ? or 3 parts diesel and 1 part kitchen oil ? I have heard from many people who run 50/50 or even 30/70 (30 veg oil) and have troubles after less than a month. Do you know if the old Eberspächer a pressure fead system with an injector nozzle, or a drool feed like the chinese units ? I am currently running road diesel, and today it is -33C and the warmest it has been is -28. My heater, fuel and pump are all sitting outside and I haven't had any issues. Luckily it is warming up soon.

@@loweredexpectations4927 I will install such air heater in my Workspace too, but since my Workbench has a distance of more then 10cm to the floor, I will use a 3m long 3" Pipe since the original is ways too short and use a sharp knife to make one side holes in a line with a distance of 5cm and bend it with the knife over, then the hot air can exit the whole length and if I install this pipe under the Workbench, it heat up more or less over the 3m length equal

@@loweredexpectations4927 With kitchen oil you need to heat it up to around 40-50°C and then filter it careful with a net filter (pre-filtering for bigger dirt), then using a 10my filter and then a 1my filter. Now you have two possibilities: 1) Cracking it (there are some RU-vid videos about) and it give the best results since it become very put Bio Diesel 2) Use it as it is, but add 3-6% of additive which make the Kitchen oil durable (you can get the Diesel Pest into it) and around 2-4% additive for making it more liquid (even in the summer). This Type of Bio Diesel has to be mixed with WINTER Diesel which you can get with 1st of October on all Petrol Stations in Middle- and Northern Europe. In other countries like the USA you have to add it yourself. You can run in the Summer a Mix of 3/4 kitchen oil and 1/4 Diesel, but in the Winter, only 50/50 if you can be sure, that the Mix will never get under 0°C. However, I use a 2/3 way valve attached directly (absolute shortest way) to my MIX-Tank with one inlet and the second Inlet to the Winter-Diesel Tank. If my Thermostat switch on, the Diesel Heater run from DIESEL, and after it is running it switch to MIX-Diesel. If the Thermostat switch off, I have Delay-Off Relays which prevent switching off the Heater, while the 2/3 Way valve change immediately to DIESEL. The time for the Delay-Off Relays must be chosen accordenly to the volume of the Diesel-MIX in the pipe, hence the Diesel Heater must run so long, that only pure DIESEL is standing in the pipe However, Oil from Sunflower, Olives and Rape react different (aso the manufacturing process) and this is what you have to figure out yourself

@@michellekonzack I have heard of people simply diluting / cutting kitchen oils for diesel engines, and that seems to work quite well. The issue that I have heard from many is that unless you remove the glycerine, you will get a nasty build up ... The reasoning : Veg oils have X amount of glycerine so after you burn X amount of oil, you are left with X glycerin in the burn chamber. Unlike a diesel engine, where the fuel is injected at high pressure in a highly atomized mist, and the combustion process is pretty .... violent / energetic, these diesel heaters are basically candles, that pump oil onto a wick. Whatever contaminants you introduce will pool in one spot and quickly cause a blockage. I personally have not tried veg oils of any kind, but I have heard from dozens of people who have, without success. I have tried starting on diesel while burning engine oil and there was a minor improvement, but have not yet tried veg oil.

I love the brake drum idea. I don't know that I want to dedicate that much time and space to filtering fuel, but I really do appreciate the input !! These seem to be ok when burning diesel, but yes, many of them, including mine, have a very stupid program that doesn't have many inputs to make it safe. Some other ones have more sensors, but still with something this basic, there's not much in the way of safety. I have a 200,000 btu tankless heater that runs off natural gas for my floor heating, and a back up 80,000 btu Mr Heater unit. This was supposed to be a supplement to burn some waste and save some money. It's turning into a real headache.

BUT... Would you be more worried about me if I actually didn't know not to cut toward myself, or if I know and have made a calculated decision based on cutting things and myself for years 🤣 Notice the technique. Arm almost locked at the elbow, pulling the my arm into my side, bucket braced against my inner knee. The travel of the knife is limited by my elbow hitting my side and the lid / bucket are being braced so they can't slip. While I wouldn't recommend this to anyone, if you have used a utility knife a lot (in an unregulated situation) you come up with more efficient / accurate ways to cut things. I have worked at places where you need to fill out a safety sheet if you plan on using a knife on site and then do a thorough risk assessment.... If you plan on climbing stairs with the knife you need to fill out a separate form. Shell Grease production plant and also a few Natural gas plants...

Yeah, I noticed the technique, the quarter turns. The blade is pretty well embedded in the plastic and it's not like you will cut through the bucket rim. I worked with someone that cut someone else* with a "safety knife" (the yellow 'crewsafe' ones) while breaking down boxes. Equipment can fail, the blade could snap. Stay safe in your calculations.

I had a roommate who was working construction (framign) and he was kneeling at the top of a wall and put a 3 inch spike in his knee with a nail gun.... Thanks for your comment. You have made a statement, but not given any reason, evidence or proof to back your statement. Manufacturers installation recommendations from many manufacturers clearly show installation inside of vehicles, campers and trailers. I would not argue for one second that my installation is proper (it is not safe) but when installed properly, there is nothing wrong with installing these indoors or inside.

That is often the case. I have found this heater to be pretty great. Considering all of the abuse that I have put it through, and the fact that it is still running ... That says something. I have considered getting a smaller fuel pump to change the afr instead of changing the hz (my current controller can't do this) but I have already ordered a new ecu and controller. Funny that you mention the cat... I have a friend who is going to get me a cat so that I can do the same thing, but yeah... it would get destroyed pretty quickly running anything but clean diesel or maybe kerosene. Not sure if you have watched this video... or any of my other videos, but I am clearly doing LOTS of things wrong. That is the whole idea of these videos. Many people claiming that you can do lots of things wrong without any issues. I love these heaters and currently have one installed in my work vehicle burning pure clean diesel... it is amazing.

I have tried all sorts of different mixtures of gasoline, oil and diesel. Preheating with gasoline in the mix is problematic as it off gasses in the lines and causes erratic feeding. I have 30 more videos or so of all sorts of crazy testing, haha.

I'm not sure about my remote, but my controller lacks the functions of most controllers. The settings button basically does nothing except for make the backlight come on. I have ordered a new controller. These are very efficient ! I've never run mine on setting 1 but it will last 14 hours or more turned all the way up. It's rarely warm enough here to run it at a lower setting.

Curious if you are speaking from experience, or if you are just repeating something you heard... because the internet is full of people just repeating things they have heard. The way this heater operates (the issues) has nothing to do with the way it is installed. Saying that is evidence that you don't really know what you are talking about. This is part 1 of a 30+ video series, 4 months of testing and about 1500 hours of run time. Don't just assume that I didn't try 70% 30% ... You have used it daily for how long ? You're aware this video test was with waste engine oil and not vegetable oil ? The exhaust direction has nothing to do with the heater working or not working. I have run these on their side and upside down with no issues at all... when running on diesel. You and everyone else claiming that this works so well need to get together and make even one convincing video... Hundreds of videos on the internet of people who have actually tried and documented with ATF, hydraulic oil, engine oil, canola oil, grape seed oil, random cooking oils who have all had failures from a few hours to a few weeks.... Lots and lots of people claiming they have had success, but I can't find one single video with any compelling evidence... Funny how that is works. These are awesome little heaters... I now have 4 and 3 only get diesel... they work great !

I think what you mean to say is that it is not optimal or the best idea, and I agree. However, pointing the air hose down spreads the heat out. Also, while heat does rise, it's not quite as simple as that. It's not like a helium balloon or a floaty toy in water. Heat dispurses to lower energy levels. If the air at your ceiling is 30C, it's not like it will never heat up at floor level... it just means floor level heats more slowly, and it will always be hotter at the ceiling than at the floor. This heater has no trouble heating my garage in this configuration... when running on diesel.

Thanks for the comment ! I think the difference between this and a diesel engine is that there is very little pressure or turbulence. The combustion chambre of a engine is a pretty violent place, so deposits can be forced out as they are produced. Filtering is a great idea, the more, the better, but in the end you will have contaminants / stuff in the oil that doesn't burn well. Most of that stuff is going to settle in the burn chambre and only come out with you pick it out. The starting on diesel trick may work if you are running your heater for short periods, a few hours at a time, but I run mine for days on end. The diesel will 100% clean out some of the nasty stuff from oil, I have tested this by running diesel for a few days and then taking it apart. Start up and shut down on diesel would work for some people, but on waste oil mix, mine will stop working after a few days even running at really high temperature. I have heard claims that you have to burn oil with a much higher fan speed and slow the pump so that there is enough air flow to 1. help burn more completely, and 2. Help push out the junk that doesn't burn before it builds up. I may have to replace my controller to be able to control fan and fuel speed independently. I have tried the "alpine mode" that leans out the mix, and it only lasted 10 hrs before completely clogging up. I've also tried to manually decrease fuel flow by pinching the line, and that didn't work either. I will post the recommendations someone gave to me, if you have a controller and you can do this, awesome ! Dayle Edwards . I have three of these heaters, all burning oil. I have hundreds of liters of the stuff... Set the pump and fan speed to my settings. Run the fan speed at full rpms. The heater will not run any higher than a pump speed of 2.5 to 3 Hz without eventually clogging, this will slightly reduce heat output. Above 3 Hz, there is too much oil and smoke will result. My heaters start reliably and don't smoke and dont smell after starting.

They almost certainly wouldn't ... even if they did, I don't think I have updated my house or garage value ever, so nothing I have would be covered... altho they did accept photos of items when I had a break in a few years back. Still... most of the stuff I have is not replaceable anyway.

After 7 years in insurance, I don't have it because I saw too many cases not being paid out. I finally left when I was fed up fighting for my clients all the time. I saw the other side too, where people knowingly abused the system and jammed luck to their favour with lies and false information. Holistically insurance is so much like a casino!

@@chrisdekock8864 Yeah...It's gotta be a rough business for anyone who is honest and compassionate. It sucks to see those who don't deserve anything always winning because they work the system, and those who genuinely deserve help being screwed over... I think every system has a tendency to move towards these extremes in all businesses and government, and it's only pressure from the public that keep these systems somewhat in line. It is really hard when the government is supposed to put checks and balances in place to ensure fair treatment, and then they create legislation to protect the bad guys.

Haha... I love the sarcasm 😂... I actually released a video where I did some testing running it on diesel, and you won't believe the results, lol.... Seriously though, these things are awesome pieces of kit if you plan on burning diesel. My testing is to show that if you burn waste oil, you can expect to have some issues. Unfortunately, there are people out there saying that you can toss any old liquid into the tank and bob's your aunty... Hopefully people walk away from my videos with the idea that burning junk other than diesel can cause serious problems. Thanks for the comment !

Thanks for the info. In my climate, even with a fully insulated garage, I have to run my heater at full blast, nonstop to try to keep a reasonable temperature... so there is no shutting down... I have heard of this and I may try this set up and just switch it every 4 hours or so to see if that works. Still trying a few things. Faulty temp cut off ? Not 100% sure what you mean.

I have had a few issues with the cheap tubing by getting it way too hot, but it's not as bad as people say... When mine got damaged, it was sitting next to a glowing red hot exhaust.

The filter is before the pump, tho it may not look that way. I just released a video called "NO FUEL PUMP - Debunking The Quality Fuel Line Myth" These heaters do not care about fuel pressure and only care if they get fuel... That's why the pumps are called "dosing pumps" I will try to link the video in another comment so this one doesn't get blocked. Diesel is not the same as gasoline... when you run diesel lean, it gets colder, and when you run it rich, it gets hot.... this is why you see trucks driving around "rolling coal" rich makes power.

A few people have said this, but nope.... Oh wait ... you're 100% right ! LOL.... That's funny. I have put so many of these on that I've told at least two other people that they were wrong . Oops. I'm a mechanic and during the summer months I install 3-4 of these a day... This to say "I know how they are suppose to be installed, I just did it wrong anyway. David McLuckie tried to run one on pure clean cooking oil, and couldn't get it to run, even when preheating it, but I don't recall if he has tried a mix. I suspect that it would be similar to trying to burn waste motor oil, but maybe a little easier. Just a guess tho.

Yes, unfortunately, kerosene is about $5 per litre where I am. I may get some to experiment with, but long term diesel is much cheaper $1.66 per litre. I just checked and it's down to $1.21.

I am strongly considering this. There are two main reasons why I have not done this. One is that if you have it outside, you either need to have two 3" holes in your wall, or you are heating outside air. Heating outside air is not going to work where I am. It was -30C all last week. Trying to heat -30C air wouldn't work very well. Secondly is that when I frequently stopped working, I would have to go outside in the freezing cold and snow to remove and install it for it's daily cleaning, haha. If you are running diesel and don't have issues with it running, this is a way better set up for sure... You would have to recirculate the inside air to get good results, but this is much safer, quieter and it doesn't take up space inside.

@@loweredexpectations4927 Makes sense to pull shop air, not ambient outside air. I'm SW B.C. so it's not as cold. I'd imagine the lcd display won't work at those temps either, so you'd have to extend the harness and move controller inside. Best option I've seen for reliable use oil burning is a converted oil furnace or dedicated shop heater but they're $$$. The residential furnaces can be picked up for free and there's a couple ebay sellers that have the whole conversion as a kit depending on how much free time you have to mess with the guesswork otherwise. I've also been skeptical of some of these videos since used oil is so inconsistent even from engine to engine. Like grandpa's 76 caddy is going to have way more carbon and hc after 5k than a new Toyota. Clean oil doesn't burn worth a shit.

@@tkovac4912 Spot on ! Waste oil is very inconsistent. If I was in a different area, I would totally build a waste oil furnace, but it's not practical for me here. The biggest difference between these and a homemade WO furnace is the ability to clean them quickly and the size. If I can crank the fan speed up independently of the oil, I have been told that that will create enough turbulence to clean the chambre out... Do I believe it.... not yet.

@loweredexpectations4927 Pipe comes with the heater is very thin, get hot very quick and produce more sound. Think about it as a car, 1 mufler noisy than 2 mufler. Cars exhaust is made from thicker material and from carbon steel. The one supplied looks like a stainless steel, but it's not, i guess. Stainless steel(316/304) produces more sound than carbon steel (355) dampens sound bit better.

@@kan815k Ah, yes. I believe it is stainless.... Sound is not a big concern for me, but David McLuckie has made a few videos on different mufflers ... it was quite interesting.

I agree... I have 4 of them now and they are awesome ! Amazingly affordable and they work great. I just released a video testing the exhaust gasses (CO, TVOC and HCHO) and was shocked at how good it was.

It may be that my oil is from lawnmowers and is particularly nasty, or it could be that my heater is running a horrible air fuel ratio, so I have ordered a controller that I can adjust ratio. I have gotten the comment about two tanks a lot, but I run my heater 24/7 and it only shuts off when it stops working. I am also really poor, believe it or not. I'm still experimenting with all sorts of things. About to go take the heater apart and have a look to see how may last experiment went.

@@loweredexpectations4927 Yes I'd stick to used car motor oil or cooking oil. ...the two tanks is for starting it on pure Diesel then switch tanks when it's up to about 200 degrees celsius. But yes it does run good on about a 30/70 or even 40/60 mix. And that's on one tank system. With two tanks I'll bet it will run on 100 % pure motor oil. I'll know probably next month because at the moment I haven't the cash for the parts.

​@@ParasiteZappers I have a steady supply of lawnmower oil, as I am a seasonal small engine mechanic. I have been doing lots of experiments, but I think that the oil is very likely my #1 issue. To compound issues, I am at 4000 ft elevation, and so the air is thin here. I have tried alpine mode, but that only makes things worse ... experiments continue. I'm currently trying to sell my classic mini, seen in the background of these videos, so that I can continue to make these videos... I work seasonally and have been hit hard by the tax man (my own fault)

Thanks for another comment ! I have ordered a different controller that will allow me to change the air fuel ratio. My current controller does not allow this. I have had to clean out my heater several times now... I am getting pretty good at it, haha. Diesel works great in mine as well. I have run it for several hundred hours without issues, on diesel... motor oil, not so much. I have made some progress throughout my testing and the testing continues. Cheers !

I'm not sure if this is a serious comment or if you are making fun of my smoke and flames, haha. If you have it set up properly, and you burn diesel, then YES... these are perfectly safe and ideal for a campervan. Highly recommended... If you try to burn anything other than diesel, you are taking a risk... I know all about that.

These heaters are amazing, and when you burn diesel in them, they are very reliable... I have 4 of them now and 3 of them run on diesel.... The one in this video is for torture testing and sometimes gets cleaned out 3-4 times a day, haha. I have a bunch of videos testing this heater with all sorts of waste oil mixtures and none of them really work.... However, one of my latest videos I did some emissions testing and it was pretty shocking how clean these heaters actually run when tuned correctly.

Feel free to tell me about the "obvious" failure, based on my setup, and I will explain to you why you are wrong. Waste oil is the only reason. Ding ding ding ... We have a winner !!! .... "learning from others mistakes". This video, and the 30 after it, are dedicated to testing (mostly) false claims made by other RU-vidrs, RU-vid comments and people on forums and blogs. I've had a LOT of people comment saying I saved them from burning "alternative fuels". These heaters are awesome ! The reason I tested it with a waste oil mix is because 3 popular RU-vidrs were making claims that this would work fine. (That and I love experimenting) I have lots of oil and thought I'd see how much it would actually burn. I didn't believe the "3 years without cleaning" that one person said, but I thought maybe a month. PS. You can also burn paint thinner or Varsol and it works perfectly fine. I am about to test acetone, lacquer thinner, and some more interesting things like bacon fat, coconut oil... and some secret stuff.

Yes and no... Mine is 24x26 and it is able to keep it about 10 - 13C when it is about -30C outside... I have 2x6 insulated walls and a partly insulated attic area. The issue is that it is going to cost you a lot of money. I would not suggest running these on anything but diesel, and burning diesel is going to cost you a lot more than natural gas or propane. If you are using it a few times a year to take the chill off, then it might make sense for you, but if you plan on using it all the time then I would get something else. Propane or natural gas with a ceiling mount Mr Heater will work a lot better, be faster, more convenient, safer, not affect your insurance and increase the value of your house / garage. The only reason I have one of these is because I was under the impression that it would work fine on waste oil and that I would have some free fuel. I'm continuing with my experiments but I have not yet found any way to make waste oil burn well and cost effective.

You got one of those torpedo heaters ? They work great in a well ventilated area, but they consume a LOT of fuel... Jet fuel is basically diesel or kerosene isn't it? I forget. I thought it was diesel but they don't have the same regulations for sulfur so it has more in it. If you have a few car batteries, (maybe one) the diesel heater will run for days on a single charge .... I charge my battery non stop, and if the power goes out, I still have at least 10 hours of heat, if necessary I can charge the battery with a running vehicle... I do not like the idea of drilling holes in my walls... I admit that. That's why it is dangerously mounted on my shelf ... and venting into my shop vent duct. The pump ticking is annoying but if you take a few minutes and either insulate around the pump or mount it somewhere better... it is very quiet. Cheers!

@@loweredexpectations4927 I have this setup with a little trickle charger on the battery in my garage, I don't run the Heater 24/7 so the trickle charger on the old boat battery works perfect. The heater is for the real bad cold snaps or when I need to work in the garage for a while only.

@@underscr0e Right on... They are perfect for that. The one thing that I haven't had any issues with is my battery / charging set up.

I ran mine off of my motorcycle battery once.

I didn't see that written anywhere on the box, or in the manual. I'm guessing you missed the part of the video where I said that there are people on youtube claiming you can do this... my videos are to show that it's not so simple.

I understand how this could be confusing. It was future me that shot the intro... I believe I pointed this out... The footage in the video was mostly shot while the heater was working ok... and then around 20 minutes into the video, I mentioned that the heater overheated. This is a multi part series... I think I also pointed that out at the first of the video. At the time of shooting the intro and outro of the video, I had started to have all sorts of issues with the heater, and wanted to tell a thorough story... so I showed it from the beginning. If you have questions, I'm happy to answer, but I have 30+ videos about testing with the heater, after this one.

Yes, I know. I tried to make this clear in the video. The problem isn't the heaters, it is people saying you can run them on oil. I have 3 that I only run on diesel and they are awesome !

You never had any problem running it on waste oil, or diesel ? I have tried running it on diesel, 5 days non stop, in total, and it is currently running on diesel right now... runs great.
