This is a DESTRUCTIVE dis-assembly of a $23 Ebay purchase that was listed as a Honda GL1800 replacement antenna. Going into it, all I wanted was the plastic chrome base and the cast aluminum frame for a ham radio antenna conversion. This is the first hands on video I have done and it is horrible. I can't put the antenna back together and redo the video. It's a learning curve.
Bottom line is that the antenna is not built correctly. Although the center lead is connected to the stud, the ground is lost at the same time. The way the coax is bonded to the stud is where it is wrong. Due to the way it's made, the error cannot be repaired.
SO, if you are looking for a replacement antenna base for your Goldwing, pony up and buy the Honda OEM part and not this crap.
