Not many battleships can fight back effectively at those ranges, but everything else is a nightmare, in typical Izumo fashion. It's sort of the Slava problem - really good at long ranges, but pretty helpless otherwise. I generally have a hard time with ships that require my team to do something, but maybe that's also just down to me being too aggressive in general.

Yamato is still a solid BB and I don’t think that will ever change.

In my opinion, yes, Yamato is worth it. As the line goes, Nagato is very good at T7, Amagi is playable now that they fixed the turret bug, Izumo is a pain (she has barely more armour than Amagi, and fewer guns, while being the size of a Yamato), but Yama herself is a good mid-range ship, despite being from the initial release batch. I'll be featuring Yamato from time to time, I'm trying to get APCS+ with Yamamoto on my personal. In general, it's a ship in which you want to stay at range for the first half of the game, and then push, because her armour is pretty good - her belt is thicker than both GK and Kremlin, and deck is better than Kremlin - and those 460mm rifles can really hurt at mid-range.

Georgia is an awful ship. It has nothing going for it at all. If RNJesus says no to citadels then you may as well become a reef. You would be more useful that way.

Nope, no historical battleships within the period. The last ones China had, I think, were part of the Imperial Chinese Navy, around late 19th century, so we're talking Ironclads / pre-dreadnoughts here. They're usually doing a decent job with explaining the hypothetical alt-history of more modern ones, but this is an "event ship", so I had to make one up :)

This ship is very, very good at dealing damage at long range against battleships (or CVs if you can catch them). Bloody useless in any other scenario. In the game against Amagi, I was counting on my cruiser to draw some fire, or at least chase down the Kagero, but well, it's random games. Amagi would not have stood a chance at 13km, but below that, yeah, you're in a Yamato-sized damage pinata.
