The process for changing the main jet size is pretty simple. First remove the carburetor. To do this you'll probably need to take some parts off the scooter, such as the underseat storage container and possibly some body panels. Every scooter will be different. Disconnect the fuel line and vacuum lines, disconnect the auto enricher (choke), disconnect the throttle cable, disconnect the air intake hose and disconnect the inlet manifold. At this point you should, be able to wiggle the carburetor out of the scooter.
At the bottom of most carburetors you'll find the float chamber, usually secured to the carburetor body by four screws. Remove these screws and the float chamber should separate from the body. If you haven't drained it, it will be full of gas, so be careful.
Scooter Carburetor Main Jet
On most carburetors, the main jet is the one which sticks out more. The jet itself is actually just the top part of the brass tube which sticks up out of the aluminum carburetor body . The lower part is the atomizer and it can stay in the carburetor body. Only the main jet need to be changed. Be sure to use the right sized screwdriver to remove it. Brass is quite soft and you don't want to damage the screw slot. So unscrew the main jet and replace it with the new one. Screw it in tight, but you don't need to use a lot of force. Just make sure it's not loose. That's it. You've now replaced the main jet in your carburetor!
Altitude can play an issue in scooter performance. When you are dealing with elevation you will want to rejet to prevent your engine from siezing and requiring a rebuild. You will loose about 3% in power for every 1000' in elevation. At 4000' feet you will have lost about 12% of your power output. You will want to go down one (1) jet size for every 1750' to 2000' you go up in elevation. When the air is colder it requires bigger jets because cold air is more dense. If it is 50 degrees colder you would increase your jet size at least one step up. If you don't, your engine may sieze on you.
This video is perfect for chinese scooter like gy6, lance, taotao and more

Hello I replaced the idle speed jet with the accommodating 45 that was with the 120 and the acceleration is way more crisp at the beginning, definitely a difference. It also got rid of the popping from decel. I recommend you do a video on it, I’ll send a video of mine to your email as soon as I can.

@jeremyrbaker230
@jeremyrbaker230 3 года назад
Wanted to follow up on final conclusion on the popping on the 150cc powermax from taotao.... I went through a vary of jets to find that the 120 is the best, I also put the biggest idle jet that it could take from the jet kit your recommended. It still pops, but not as much as before. It seem as if you close the throttle quick it does it, but if you decelerate using the throttle slowly, it doesn’t pop. I like to use the analogy of riding a regular motorcycle. They teach you in motorcycle class to use the clutch to decelerate vs. the brake if applicable. The same should be applied to this automatic gy6 system I believe. I may try to completely get rid of the popping in the future but for now I just want to ride it. I did check the boot to the carb from engine and air filter and they were tight as a stack of bricks. I still recommend doing a idle jet video as it definitely made the powermax sound way better and better idle acceleration. Will be doing your shock video soon that you just posted. I’ll keep you posted as to any ideas I have for you to post. You do a great job and I always look forward to watching your videos. Take Care and Be Safe on the roads, always wear a helmet, even if it’s just a half helmet.

Hello the best for a 50cc is to place a big boar kit
@vamountainman2512
@vamountainman2512 2 года назад
Yup. Big bore kit is the most noticeable upgrade you can do. Aside from that you can change variator weights for more low in power or more top end depending on what is more important to your use.
@vincenttorres328
@vincenttorres328 2 года назад
@@vamountainman2512 thanks. I use My scooter as a to and from work transpo I already have over 7100 miles on it in a little over a year. I just don't want to jeopardize it's longevity. With these gas prices I'm trying to get All the Life out of it as well as I can. Thank you again. Have a great day
@vamountainman2512
@vamountainman2512 2 года назад
@@vincenttorres328 Just don't go extreme on the big bore if you do. They make a wide variety of kits. I dont recall specifically what sizes are available but something in the 80cc range shouldn't be "too much" of a detriment on longevity. I wouldn't do any of the big bores that involved shaving heads to achieve. At that point you should just buy a larger bike. Your safest bet would be to play with your variator weights to see if you can achieve the extra torque or top end you seek. Buy a variety of variator weights and try to tune it a little :)
@vincenttorres328

@@vamountainman2512 I was suggested to do an 80 c kit. I'm not sure but part of my ride to work puts me on a small portion of highway and today I was almost run down by some idiot in a cargo van on his phone who couldn't see me turning into my work. It's just crazy how people are. IDK. I just know I need to get it done so that one block of highway isn't an obstacle on my commute. Thank you for your comment

Once again thanks a lot man from Gainesville. I just put one of those $35 eBay performance shorty exhaust on and she's backfiring and I'm guessing maybe that's why is because it's too lean. I'm about to put that intake to you have and a uni filter so that I can oil the outside foam to repel water. I'm guessing I should probably start with a 125 jet if I have those two modifications? Man that exhaust was a pain in the ass I had to cut and bend it to fit. Plus I cut out part of one of the brackets so the dipstick could fit in the slot I cut out but I got lucky and that top bracket that I cut out to fit around the dipstick actually was able to bend to mount right to the swingarm. I already had two Mufflers break off at the manifold so I'm really happy to be able to mount the bracket on this one so it's not bouncing around and it holds solid in place. Anyway man keep up the good work.

Hello ANDYTHE BOOT you only need to change the main jet not the pilot jet unless you place a larger motor displacement or big boar kit for an attitude 1100 I will place an #85 or #88 Main Jet and I will do a test run to see if your scooter will perform a lot better see When you are dealing with elevation you will want to rejet to prevent your engine from siezing and requiring a rebuild. You will loose about 3% in power for every 1000' in elevation. At 4000' feet you will have lost about 12% of your power output. You will want to go down one (1) jet size for every 1750' to 2000' you go up in elevation. When the air is colder it requires bigger jets because cold air is more dense. Hello Andy things are 2 there is a possibility that you have a air bubble inside the fuel filter that slow the fuel flow or if you have a fuel petcock valve on your scooter you need to place a fuel switch see when you place a large jet the fuel flow is faster so any little thing can give you problems

Hello my friend if you have a performance filter is better if you up jet your carburetor to a #120 main jet if you have a 150cc scooter but if you had a popping before the performance filter that sound that you have a crack or a leak at the manifold in front of the carburetor or at the manifold gasket because on deceleration your scooter is getting some extra air so try to upjet and see if you see an improvement thank you for watching my video and be safe

Hello i'm new subscriber, thanks for the great explanation, love your videos. I live in Indonesia. Need your advise. I have Piaggio zip 100 Quattrotempi here. Days ago i found out that the sponge element inside stock air filter box has falling apart, the original sponge is about 2cm thick oil wet type. then i change it with a thinner one, only 0.5 cm thickness and dry without oil. i did some adjustment on mixture screw and it running well on idle, now the problem is when it comes to the rpm range of main jet, it bogs down. i am pretty sure i cleaned up all the carbs component thoroughly. and installed everything tightly & correctly. Do i need to change the main jet? the stock is 38 pilot jet, and 78 main jet. What main jet number you recommend to max out performance for this 96cc 4 stroke with stock Keihin CVK 20 carb? I live in 115m altitude in tropical climate, average day temperature 30-35 degrees celcius. Oh maybe you need to know that the carb is very similar to chinese gy6 50cc, maybe slightly different size. Stock engine with 1:11 compression ratio, 49mm stroke x 50 mm bore. Grazie mille.

@VirberelloScooterTips 2 года назад
Hello Radeya the 38 pilot jet is great but you can place a 80 main jet or the best and easy way to fix the problem is to remove the remove the dry air filter that you place in the air box and place a clean new yellow kitchen sponge and that will help you motor to stay cooler and run better

@@VirberelloScooterTips wow thanks for your prompt reply, i got it completely. So to solve the problem is either fit more restrictive sponge as filter or change the main jet 1 number higher. Hello my friend for the main jet for best performance need to be base on your altitude and yearly everage temperature of your location for Florida at sea level for all year araund #120 main jet is great but less air density in altitude and colder weather like up north you will need a #115 or #105 main jet is all about test and touning or install a air and fuel sensor at the exhaust that will tell you the perfect ratio and that will be very cool with a little display ah ah ah ah for the carb I prefer a 26mm because the carburator space is very limited and you like to give little room to the carb to vove around . Hello Michael if you have a big bore and is 170cc 180cc 200cc 232cc and you like to change the main jet and pilot jet you need to test and tune your scooter for your location and altitude to find the perfect match try to place a 38 pilot jet and a 130 main jet and at the same time place a brand new spark plug run for 100 miles that way then remove the plug and see the color of the ceramic around the positive electrode a see if the color is a coffee or is to white the problem that your scooter is running only at fool throttle try to check the clearance at the valves for the variator weight if you have a big bore above 150cc I will place 16g because you will have less vibrations on the scooter. Hello Bakeman58 make sure the fuel flow freely from the petcock to the carburetor and all the hose are still connected like vacuum hose and fuel hose but many times when you change the jet on the carb air bubble goes inside the fuel filter and make vacuum inside there now what you can do open the fuel tank cap disconnect the hose that comes from the tank to the petcock after the fuel filter and let the fuel flow in a small bottle for about 10 oz of fuel ate the same time when fuel flow from the hose connect the hose to the petcock and fur sure the bubble of air that you have inside the air filter is gone if the bobble is still there repeat the process one more time and not you do not need to change the pilot jet unless you place a big bore kit that will bring your scooter over 150cc and above

Hey so I have a tcs dykon 50cc 4 stroke moped I’m at 814’ ft elevation in Arkansas I put basically the same performance filter you have on no boot necessary I wanna know what main jets you recommend to try on it and I think maybe my piston rings are messed up it’s running very rich an burning oil an I think there’s gas in the oil and oil reaching into the exhaust?
@VirberelloScooterTips
@VirberelloScooterTips 11 месяцев назад
It sounds like you're dealing with a few issues with your TCS Dykon 50cc 4-stroke moped. Based on the information you've provided, here are some suggestions and recommendations: Main Jets: Since you're at an elevation of 814 feet, you might need to adjust the main jet size to compensate for the change in air density. Generally, at higher elevations, the air is thinner, which can affect the air-fuel mixture. You may need to go for smaller main jets to reduce the richness of the mixture. However, the exact jet size can vary based on factors such as your specific modifications, riding conditions, and preferences. It's advisable to start with a slightly smaller main jet size and then fine-tune from there. I will try a 75 or 72 main jet and try that on the road Rich Running and Oil Consumption: A rich-running engine and oil consumption can indicate a few potential issues. It's good that you suspect piston rings, as worn or damaged rings can lead to oil getting into the combustion chamber, causing a rich mixture and oil consumption. Additionally, gas in the oil can result from incomplete combustion due to the rich mixture. Piston Rings: If you suspect issues with the piston rings, a compression test can help diagnose the problem. Low compression can indicate worn rings. If confirmed, replacing the piston rings could help resolve the oil consumption and rich-running issues. Carburetor Adjustment: Recheck your carburetor adjustments, including the idle mixture screw. Make sure the air-fuel mixture is properly balanced. Exhaust System: A malfunctioning or damaged exhaust system could contribute to poor combustion and oil contamination. Inspect the exhaust system for leaks or blockages. Oil in Exhaust: Oil in the exhaust could be a sign of oil being burned in the combustion chamber. This could be related to piston rings, as mentioned earlier. It's important to address this issue, as excessive oil burning can lead to fouled spark plugs, poor performance, and potentially even engine damage. Remember, making modifications to your moped's engine and carburetor settings can have significant effects on performance and reliability. It's essential to approach these changes carefully and methodically to achieve the desired results without causing further problems.

@VirberelloScooterTips
@VirberelloScooterTips 4 месяца назад
It sounds like you're experiencing a flooding issue with your 24mm PWK carburetor, which is causing fuel to fill up the bottom end of your engine. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem: Check Float Height: Ensure that the float height is set correctly. If the float height is too high, it can cause the carburetor to overflow with fuel. Refer to your carburetor's manual for the proper float height adjustment procedure. Inspect Float and Needle Valve: Check the float and needle valve for any damage or wear. If the float is damaged or the needle valve is worn out, it may not be sealing properly, leading to fuel overflow. Replace any faulty components as needed. Verify Needle Valve Seating: Even if you've checked the needle valve seating, double-check to ensure it is seated correctly and not allowing fuel to pass when it shouldn't. Sometimes debris can prevent the needle valve from sealing properly, so thoroughly clean the valve and its seat. Check Fuel Inlet: Ensure that the fuel inlet into the carburetor is not blocked or restricted. A blockage in the fuel line or inlet can cause irregular fuel flow, leading to flooding. Inspect Vent Tubes: Check the vent tubes on the carburetor to make sure they are clear and not blocked. Blocked vent tubes can cause pressure buildup in the carburetor, leading to fuel overflow. Consider Fuel Pressure Regulator: If you're using a fuel pump or high-pressure fuel system, consider installing a fuel pressure regulator to prevent excessive fuel pressure from overwhelming the carburetor's float valve. By carefully inspecting and addressing these potential issues, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the flooding problem with your carburetor.

I’m running stock filter. Mine came with 102 main jet…. I’m in Wisconsin.. would 115 be too much or should I go with 105 or 108? Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

@VirberelloScooterTips Месяц назад
In Wisconsin, for your 150cc GY6 scooter with a stock 102 main jet, try the following: 105 Main Jet: A good starting point if you're experiencing lean conditions. 108 Main Jet: Provides more fuel than 105; a middle ground option. 115 Main Jet: Likely too rich for a stock scooter unless you have significant modifications. Start with 105, check performance and spark plug color (light tan is ideal). If still lean, try 108. Adjust as needed based on these observations.

Hello Antdizal Parker is all depend on your altitude and location but if you live like me at sea level #125 main jet and #40 pilot jet will be a great set up but if your location is higher every 1000 ft up in altitude your jet will need to be 2 size smaller. Thank you for watching my video

Hello Bertito I like the airflow filter but you need to remember that those filters are not rain friendly so if you use your scooter everyday is safer to have a stock filter and change your carburetor main jet to a 115# or 118# . Thank you for watching my video and ride safe

I went up to a 145 because I now have the performance exhaust and filter. I bog down after 30mph so I'm gonna go back to 110 or 115 or 120. The 105 is a big no no. I bog down from 0-10. Hello my friend I am back to annoy you with more questions. Like I told you before, I installed the little high flow, and I mean very high flow, shorty exhaust after my scooter was stolen and smashed apart. When I say hi flo, this thing sounds like a modified four-stroke on the motocross track. It's louder than I wanted it to be but when I see cops I just kind of lay off the throttle. Anyway, I need a new carb because like I told you, I added the high flow performance exhaust and it's backfiring and shooting flames out the pipe when I decelerate and I'm going to be adding the Nibbi intake tube and uni filter. My carb is the factory sealed version so I can't upjet it. I was wondering if since I'm changing the carb, would I get more performance out of just going up to a 26 mm carburetor, since I will be having so much airflow now? Thanks a lot for all your help so far and patience with me lol.
