Excellent explanation, as always. I am a continental knitter who learned the CW cast on w/a crochet hook from your video. I just tried the cast off with a crochet hook and found it easier to do the purling underneath that way. It was faster and looked just as neat.

Whoa! could you possibly describe or, better yet, video your method? I use the crochet hook with the CWCO and would love to use the hook with the CWBO too!

Hi: Let me try to explain with the Kezer video. The continental style version starts at 3:05. If using a crochet hook it will be in your right hand. You will use a knitting needle in your left hand just as Kezer does. You will mostly keep the hook side facing down. At 3:30 you see her demonstrate the “scoop underneath.” Just adjust the hook to grab the yarn for the scoop. Still using the crochet hook you then execute the two cast offs (yo and then first purl stitch). Then you’ll be ready for the next stitch. That’s it. For me, the scooping was slightly easier with a crochet hook. It’s a great cast off to match a beautiful cast on.

Thank you! I was looking for this bind off in English style knitting.

Thanks so much! I used it with the cast on for my Goldwing sweater and it’s just perfect for the sleeves :)

Thank you. It looks like the perfect bind off for my c-w cast on. I haven't tried it yet, but hope it works with my brioche project. Should know tomorrow :)

This video has been SO HELPFUL! Thank you so much for sharing this with us. It creates a beautiful castoff edge and is much quicker than some of the other fancy bindoffs.

I’m confused. With the American style knitting you did a double yarn over but not for the continental style or am I missing something?
@bulbasaurus_
@bulbasaurus_ Месяц назад
they explain at 1:29 it feels like a double yarn over because you have to bring the yarn to the front of the needle to purl, and then counter clockwise to the front of the needle for the yarn over

Interesting! I don't think I've ever seen that one before. Is it stretchy at all?

I didn’t go down the needle sizes and I’m undoing the bind off now 😬 because it looks stretched out. It’s scarf that probably wonts matter but I’ll know 😊

Huh. Was this bind-off designed for Eastern Method knitting originally? Because for an EastMet knitter, you just purl and YO the way you would usually. Which makes for a lovely, simple (and fairly fast) ornamental cast-off. I will definitely be using this a lot!

It is a perfect method for what I know as Portuguese knitting, which sounds like the Eastern Method. Yarn stranded around the neck? Glad that this video was helpful!
@Killersquirrel66
@Killersquirrel66 4 года назад
@@pasticheknitwear No, with Eastern Method knitting (at least, the kind I use) the yarn is held behind the work, in the left hand. But all stitches are worked through the _back_ and not the front, as is the case with Western Method knitting. (This video demonstrates quite well: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CEqCom8fMnA.html) I find this slight change makes things so much easier! Just not having to move the yarn between the front and back of the work makes many patterns less annoying for me. But sadly I have not been able to find many video tutorials for patterns etc using EastMet knitting, so have to watch WestMet tutorials and then experiment a lot. Thank you for adding this nifty technique to my metaphorical toolbox. 🙂

It looks like the bind-off stitches are twisted on the back side (away from the camera). Any way to fix this?

Hi Mimi, I learned the CW Cast On by watching your video just a few weeks ago and I love it! Didn't know there was a matching Bind off. Do we always begin this Bind off when our RS is facing? Thank you!

Hi Chrissy! I haven't stopped to analyze, but since it's a double chain, it should look great on either side. Glad that you're enjoying it!

You can, Pat. I have done it that way, but I think that it looks better when I bring the stitches over individually. Give both ways a try and see what you think!
