Special group known as Night Stalkers - 160th SOAR. Super cool! I was watching them all night from Brickell. Bet you didn't get much sleep those nights lol.
I used to be a crew chief on Ch47 C model, and we were based in Germany back in the 80's doing nuclear security movements throughout Europe. Stressful job but huge job satisfaction. We hauled everything in containers, so we had no clue what was inside of them. You can never forget the sound a chinook makes..
I was a military kid in the UK with the British army during the 2000s when my father served in Afghanistan, we saw these regularly flying over base and my father flew in many. The americans must've brought them over for the operations in the middle east or something as you never see them here anymore.
Facts. If there was a Republican in office people would be freaking out that the Russians formed a coup and took over everything. Remember a vote for red in November = a vote for Russian influence/control in the White House
Not really driving...flying, but yeah, this Chinook which is specifically an MH-47 (Not sure what variant) is operated by 160th SOAR, which is the US Army's best pilots.
@@marshall708747s meant for heavy transport of equipment or troops but can also be used as fire support. The 60s serve the same purpose such as transport but also serve as DAPs and mild fire support. Can change mission sets easily
Because it would be ridiculously massive. When you think about it the two rotors spinning creates so much torque on their own there’s a reason these things can fly so stable with the right pilot. Unlike a drone the rotors on these carry some heft.
With hindsight, a bunch of chinooks would have been a great way to rescue the people trapped in the upper parts of the twin towers. I say with hindsight, since this would have required knowledge that the towers would collapse. One Chinook can take about 100 people in a cinch, if they're all crammed in shoulder to shoulder.
the average us citizen weighs about 180lbs, times 100 its 18000 lbs of load, a CH-47D can lift a maximum of 26000 lbs, which is valid but don't forget the flame and hot hair, that wouldn't have been enough to maintain enough lift for stationnary flight, since you have 0 ground effect. also you'd need a winch because fastroping works from the chopper to the ground, not the other way around.
