Chippewa Falls ATV trail is filled with hills, valleys, and many ponds and swamps; all the while keeping you surrounded by woods.
Chippewa Falls County is home to a great ATV trail located approximately 20 miles north of Chippewa Falls city in Wisconsin. The hilly terrain was created by glaciers thousands of years ago and truly adds to the enjoyment of this trail. The trail is typically open to ATV riding from May 1st to Mid-November every year. Head over to www.midwestatvt... to find information about up to date trail conditions, trail map, and other useful information such as trailhead locations.
Starting from the main trailhead, you begin down an ATV route towards the trail. Be cautious as you go, however less than a mile in you need to take a right to continue on towards the trail. Continuing to ride straight will keep you on the ATV route, which is a beautiful and calm ride if you are looking to get some extra ride time in.
Once you make the right towards the trail, you will continue on for approximately 4 miles down the ATV route before hitting the ATV trail. Once you hit the ATV trail you can follow it for approximately 11 miles before reaching the end (which is the second trailhead). At this trailhead is a picnic area with trees for shade, a picnic area, as well as a bathroom. This can make a great spot to rest and grab some lunch while enjoying the outdoors.
Throughout the ride, you will find some winding trails, decent hills, rocky areas, and a few good mud puddles if you choose to take them on. The scenery on this trail is beautiful and relaxing, as you ride through the woods sporadically passing ponds and lakes on both sides. The trail is not overly difficult by any means, but if this is your first-time riding, you might want to start with a less rocky, rolling hills type of trail. Anyone with a title above “brand new rider” however, should not have much difficulty navigating through around this great area.
This is an out and back trail, so once you finish relaxing you can hit the trail for another 15 miles to get back to your start point. There are a couple ATV routes in the area as well, so if you want to get in some extra riding time, you can hit those for a few extra miles. The designated ATV trail ends up being about 30 miles; 15 out, and 15 back. If you add in the additional ATV routes, you can get in around 40 miles.

Do you have a street address or GPS coordinates where the trail starts ? or where you park the truck and trailer ?

I love living in Wisconsin but are trail systems are not much fun. Their is almost as many rules and regulations on the trail as their is for streets. I feel like soon they will have lines and lanes painted in the dirt. Wear your seatbelt, make sure your lights are on, no spinning your tires, no loud exhaust, no deviated from the trail, etc.... and the list goes on. I can understand no drinking and speed limits near campgrounds for safety reasons but the rest is ridiculous. Defeats the purpose of having and all terrain vehicle. We were at Rock Dam camp grounds and a guy on a four wheeler got pulled over for hammering the throttle when he took the trail leading south out of the campgrounds. You have to go out of the campgrounds and down the street just a little to where the trail begins. So he was already out of the campgrounds, we caught up with him and he didn't get a ticket just a warning. He said they warned him of wreck less driving coz he was spinning tires and peeling out of there. Then my brother got a nice hefty fine for forgetting to turn his headlights on in the rzr. So if your going to go trailing in Wisconsin just remember to be on your best behavior, your machine is registered and passes all safety regulations and is not too loud, and don't stray from the trail, coz a lot of the trails pass through private property and we thank them for allowing us to ride through them. Trailing in Wisconsin is good for some scenic sights and taking grandma to pick raspberries, that's about it. If you wait until a good rain you can get some good muddy trails but it's mostly water over hard pack. Nothing like skeg, but if you want to find that you will have to go off trail and be careful coz a lot of trails are on private land and if you get caught your screwed. So far the best I have found is up north near Hurley and Hayward. There is quite a few miles of trail and actually a few spots that can get quite muddy and interesting. If you have a large machine or lifted machines you won't have a problem but some smaller four wheelers could have some fun. Oh and 1 more thing. Not all trails allow UTV or side by sides. Last I remember most of the trails north of Marshfield allow UTV's. There is some south that have not. They are improving quickly so you'll have to do your own research as to which trails are UTV accessible. So if your an adrenalin junkie you won't find it here. Your best bet is to find a club and sometimes their is people in the club who have private land and that's where you find the best mud, swamps, skeg, etc... If you like scenery and relaxing rides then you will have fun here. Hope this helped.

Thanks for all your input! I agree there are many rules and regulations, however, it does seem like over time the laws are moving a little more towards riders. Plus, more miles of trails seem to be showing up thanks to all the hard work of the ATV clubs and those pushing for a bigger ATV/UTV presence. As for private land, I am just glad they allow riders and believe we should all stay within the boundaries they provide. If they become unhappy because people are not following the trails they have laid out, all they have to do is say no more. Hurley is fun riding, I have not made it to hayward yet...but its on my list so hopefully soon! Thanks again for your input and for watching.

This was pretty informative, simply for showing what the trail looked like. WI sure has some boring trails. The trails near Chippewa are pretty rocky and they are sharp rocks due to the formation of the land (glacier). A bit more South in Black River Falls area, they are all pretty flat (not a whole lot of fun). The further South you get in the state, the harder it is to find a trail at all. I agree that the Hurley/Ironwood area trails are decent. So are trails/logging roads of the Blue Hills. I have yet to hit up the St. Croix area (far northwest). For what it's worth, I've never met a reasonable non-a**hole DNR officer in any part of the state; not to say they don't exist, but they are quick to ticket vs warn, even when being reasonable with them. Oh well. Last thing I'll say regarding WI trails...if you live in the state and want to have fun...you'd be better off buying your own land. That should tell you how fun the riding is in the state haha. Thanks for the upload! It was very helpful in my attempts at planning another atv trip in WI...which is proving difficult. Don't forget to strap your helmet ;)

Thanks for all your input! I have never been to Blue Hills so that is going on my list! WI has large diversity, and I think since the sport is still growing they will continue to work on their trails. There are some great trails in WI, but you do have to search for them. WI also has a lot of boring straight railroad grade style trails. Hopefully the Counties will continue to improve the trails and make a wide variety of riding options. Thanks for watching and commenting, I truly apreciate it!

My wife and I are currently in Black River Falls. These trails suck.

I'll be heading about 30 miles north of BRF next week to check the trails out. I guess I'll head north from there vs down to BRF. Thanks for the headsup!

I found this post absolutely hilarious because we are in the process of reviewing the Black River Falls Trail system. I'm breaking it up into sections since there are so many miles and different areas. Anyway, we just got done riding the area right out of Black River Falls heading North...and they sucked! So much so that as my wife and I were talking about it I went on to say I think that section may be the worst trail we have ever been on!

Depending on which portion of BRF you hit...you could be OK. Otherwise, there are some other good trails around depending how far you want to go from BRF.
