Chippewa Flowage Pike Improvement Project 2.0 will piggy back off the success of the original Chippewa Flowage Pike Improvement Project back in 2019! The goal is to reduce the pike bio-load on the Chippewa Flowage so that all fish species can thrive. The Chippewa Flowage is a world renown fishing destination in Northern Wisconsin and has seen a large increase in the pike population which puts a strain on the entire ecosystem. The Chippewa Flowage Pike Improvement Project 2.0 hopes to put a serious dent in the pike population while helping to increase available forage for other species and increasing the size of the pike that remain to a desirable size.

Great video. My family has had a place on that lake since the 40's. We have pictures of my great grandfather with giant muskies back when it was normal. There are several of them on the muskie charts on the wall at the landing. Still have the gaffes they'd use and the scythe from back in the day. My dad found a heddon creepy crawler in the unopened box in mint condition. Piece of history IMHO.

If anyone is interested. There were over 4,000 pike registered for the 2.0 project.

Thanks for the update. I've just found out there is a PIP 3.0 going on for the 2022 season. I plan to make another video encouraging the harvest of small pike!

I remember when the chip was a go to lake for musky. Not so now like it once was. I say turn it into a Pike fishery and bring down the rediculous size limit of 50" on the musky back to where it was several years ago 30".

The Musky fishing on the Chip is statistically better than its ever been. I've been fishing there since 1992 and it's light years better than it used to be back then. Better stocking practices, better catch and release practices, and better anglers. Plenty of 50s are caught every year out there. Reality is almost all muskies nowadays are released because that's the mindset that has made musky fishing throughout the midwest so much better over the last 3 decades.

Max Walter was great. I grew up on the Flowage in the late 70’s and up until the Pike were mistakenly introduced to the Flowage. Is it a coincidence that the Pike issue saw the downward spiral of walleye and even musky that is still going on today.

Thanks for watching. I actually have the full seminar on the channel. It was great to hear him speak on the fishery and how pike impact the entire ecosystem.

Pike is a great fish. Here in Ontario we have pike lakes that have bass, walleye and musky co-exist. Pike are a misunderstood fish. Wisconsin is too nuts about musky and its great fishing. We have different lakes with different fish and we all have choice.

The problem is they aren't native in this lake. They non native and invasive as hell. Just because they are desirable in one lake doesn't mean they are desirable in all lakes. I too enjoy catching pike... But when they've over populated to the point where catching a 25 incher is a big one..... that's a problem.

Planning on getting the kids out there this next weekend and hope to catch quite a few! Great tasting fish. When donating, do the resorts want the fish cleaned or not? I am sure others are curious also. Thank you for the video!

So where I stayed last year they wanted the whole fish. So that it could be registered for the contest and then they would take care of the fileting. I'd call the resort you plan to stop at and ask. Good luck out there! Hopefully you can put a good dent in their numbers!

Personally I feel they are the best eating fish out there. Pickled or baked or fried..

I would agree. People think I'm crazy when I tell them I prefer pike over walleye.

I heard there were a couple of pike specific tournaments on the chip these past few weeks. Hopefully they put a big dent in the numbers.

Yup. I believe it was Musky Tale Resort and Deerfoot Lodge each had a tournament. Haven't seen any updated numbers yet but I'll be sure to do a mid summer update to the PIP 2.0

The state is stupid for having 5 pike a day and 10 in possession.
@AnthonysOutdoors
@AnthonysOutdoors 2 года назад
What do you suggest it should be?
@timejumper8003
@timejumper8003 2 года назад
@@AnthonysOutdoors Well I don't keep pike at all but whatever gets job done. How do they estimate fish numbers in a flowage like that? Maybe I'd say keep the 5 a day but ten in freezer should change. I say if there not meeting there 10k fish goal to raise limits.
@AnthonysOutdoors
@AnthonysOutdoors 2 года назад
@@timejumper8003 My understanding is they get their estimates based off of their spring netting surveys for other fish like walleye and musky. They can get an idea based on how many they catch per night per net. As for the daily limit and possession limits. I know the DNR in the Hayward area is attempting to get the regulation changed. However that requires State congress to approve.
