Was so happy to see a new Samurai posting. Good vid, loved the chisel! Stoked to hear what else is coming :)

Hello Samourai, that line is the quench line from the hardening process!! (it shows up with the acid). For the rust some straight 7% vinaigre works just as well (takes a little longer though!! Love the process, i wish i could get (make) myself a benchtop belt sander!!

That line would not be from being stored in a bucket. That is the heat treated line from hardening. Beautiful sharp.

about 18 years ago i bought an Ohio tool works Slick for 10 buckscat a garage sale . i wouldn't sell it for $500 bucks now . i like it better than my newer sorby slicks as far as holding an edge and ease of sharpening . When its freshly sharp , its REALLY SHARP ! like surgical sharp . It cuts White or Red Oak , Locust , Bull pine , or Cypress like butter . i bought a big set of Old Buck Brothers chisels , cleaned them up and rehandled them in rosewood similar to a Diamic or Marples pattern handle profile and i used them a Lot . Same performance as the ohio slick versus newer tools . So i still keep them well oiled and sharpened in rust paper and a canvas tool bag when i need em . along with the usual framing tools , saws , etc . Makes it a lot easier for me to just grab the 2 bags of tools i keep ready for just about any job i wanna mess with .

It's always nice to see an weathered tool brought back to life, nice video! A really cheap and effective way to remove and convert rust is to use milkstone cleaner sold at places like Tractor supply. It comes in an orange liquid and is used to clean dairy tanks and piping etc. You can get a gallon for about $12 and it's composed of about 55% phosphoric acid; dilute it 1 part acid to 3 parts water. It converts rust to a black oxide that stops the formation of rust and seems to help the tool hold on to protective oils better, all while giving it a nice gun metal color. Cheers!

because its unnecessary. the chisel was fine before he "restored" it. after a few weeks or so of using that chisel its going to look like it original did. back in the day people did not make their tools nice and shiny because they used them all the time
